Mi-Shell Posted August 24, 2018 Posted August 24, 2018 The campaign to bring her out has been going on for years and really is peculiarly unpleasant. THIS is EXACTLY the case! It is just his latest attempt :(
Ncharge Posted December 1, 2018 Posted December 1, 2018 Can anyone tell me where to get and Potter’s version of the book?
ilweran Posted December 2, 2018 Author Posted December 2, 2018 Ncharge[/member] It's available on Mi-Shell's blog -https://voicewithinthecards.wordpress.com/greenwood-tarot-book/
Natural Mystic Guide Posted February 15, 2024 Posted February 15, 2024 Creation of a GW type deck using Chesca Potter’s original images for personal use. I understand that it is permissible for us to download these images and create our own decks for personal use and not for resale/profit. My question is this — even given optimal conditions, it would be very challenging for me to do this. But, because I live in Indonesia where quality printing technology and card creation technology is just not happening, I really cannot create my own deck. No. 1: Would it be permissible for me to pay someone in the U.S. to do this labor for me? I do not want to violate any of Chesca’s Potter’s intentions for the use of these images. No. 2: If No. 1 is permissible, is there anyone whom I could pay to do this for me? I’ve wanted this deck for a long long time. There just does not seem to be any reasonable way for me to procure it. Much Thanks for your consideration.
DanielJUK Posted February 15, 2024 Posted February 15, 2024 On @Mi-Shell's site, it says "All images shown here are under copyright by Chesca Potter" I know some people have taken the cards out of the PDF's and then sent to print on demand services to print their own. Some of those services do ask about the copyright when printing and I am not sure if it meets that rule. She still owns the copyright. I think the original intention is that people print on their own printer. It never really says personal use or what to do with it, just she retains the copyright. Most print of demand services say that you need to own the copyright to print things with them, in this case people with the downloads don't. We can say she gave her artwork for people to download and enjoy and she definitely didn't put it there for people to make profit from or sell. But it's not exactly clear. I am not sure either of those 2 things can happen if you don't own the copyright. On the other hand, making a deck for personal use seems fine and intended by the downloads. The problem will be if someone asks you to confirm you own the copyright or have permission.

The Greenwood Tarot such a lovely deck. (As is the Ironwing Tarot). It seems a shame that these are no longer in print. Maybe someone who has a home printer and can access the right kind of paper will be willing to help me. Thank you, Daniel.
ilweran Posted April 27 Author Posted April 27 The Greenwood Tarot Facebook page has posted that there will be a Kickstarter for the reprint - they're talking about a ltd ed of 100 copies to start. Mark Ryan is now saying he always had the right to republish - despite previously saying he couldn't - he just chose not to out of respect for Chesca Potter.
Bodhiseed Posted April 27 Posted April 27 Kickstarter link shows some other name (not Mark): https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/thegreenwoodtarot/the-greenwood-tarot?ref=discovery&total_hits=7527&category_id=45 Facebook said it would launch May 1st.
fire cat pickles Posted April 27 Posted April 27 This is the same Kickstarter link that you are taken to from Mark Ryan's Greenwood Facebook Page...

Click his name (Martin Hughes) and it says he joined in April of 2025 and "created" the Greenwood. It's Mark's alias. https://www.kickstarter.com/profile/thegreenwoodtarot/created
Bodhiseed Posted April 27 Posted April 27 (edited) To feel he needs an alias for selling this deck is a red flag for me. When I clicked it, it said his profile was private. Edited April 27 by Bodhiseed

JoyousGirl Posted April 28 Posted April 28 What's his educational background? Chesca actually has the educational background. There's a clear sense of him having half the rights without any real right. That's why this situation is as it is. Why not create something new and completely different if you're a creative?
ilweran Posted May 2 Author Posted May 2 Well it got funded in 13 minutes apparently. I'm confused because they've been saying on the Facebook page that the original Lovers card will be included, when what they seem to be including looks more like an alternative version of the Two of Cups. It is a beautiful image, undoubtedly by Chesca, but it's not the original Lovers. I did query this on Facebook but haven't had response yet. I wonder about the legality of including it as well - even if he could prove he can reprint the Greenwood, surely he can't make money from a piece of Chesca's artwork he just happens to own. Imagine if I owned a piece of the Greenwood art (my dream!) and started selling prints, I don't think he'd like that. I must admit I did have a wobble - like what's the point of boycotting something that was £20,000 over its target by the time I looked at it - £30,000 over now. But see previous paragraph.
katrinka Posted May 2 Posted May 2 (edited) I'm quite happy with my Printers Studio copy from Mi Shell's blog, thanks. I'd feel squicky supporting this and I'd never be comfortable using the deck knowing the art is stolen. I think the Printers Studio ones come out much nicer, too. You can find the images here. It's missing the 2 of Cups, IIRC**, and I don't have the scan for that one anymore, but I believe @fire cat pickles does. If not, I'll check my thumb drives. ** My mistake, it isn't missing any cards. Downoad and print with no worries! Edited May 2 by katrinka

It looks like this: Memory is glitching. More coffee... Apparently the one I used had a high enough resolution, Lower than the other scans but the card came out great. I downloaded it at Carto years ago, if memory serves. (Though I'm still waiting for the caffeine to kick in.) But all in all, the deck is complete. So there's no reason to support Ryan when you can get a much nicer deck for less money!
ilweran Posted May 2 Author Posted May 2 There are at least four different versions of that card now - seems Chesca couldn't stop changing it!
