It feels a bit lonely here, I hope I'm not the only one left 😟

Maybe we should have recruited more participants? Strangely, that there are so few of us since this class is really inspiring! Barleywine certainly knows his stuff 👍 It's still possible to catch up on the progression this far.

And Thoth isn't hard to learn. Come on, this illustration is actually just a joke 😉 :

LOL, that is so funny, @KaiNo!!

I PMd Barleywine to apologise for dropping out because, much as I'm interested in the Thoth system, I really was struggling and the time required to read and try and digest what I'd read and then figure out the questions to ask was taking up more time than I had anticipated. But I really am grateful for Barleywine's willingness to teach us and his expertise in this topic. But it just got a bit overwhelming. The more I read, the more I felt it was just the tip of the iceberg, and I still had other commitments on the forum, plus in real life. Something had to give.

But I'm definitely going to make some time for the Thoth. It just didn't work out this time. 😞

I figured and I understand, @Starlight. Sometimes things get too time consuming. I hope you come back to Thoth when circumstances are better 🙂

The Book of Thoth, Part One, The Theory of the Tarot, Sub-Part III, The Atu of Tahuti

"The student of the tarot must not therefore expect to find anything beyond a careful selection of the facts about any given card, a selection made for a quite definite magical purpose. However, the tarot does try to resume, in a single pictorial symbol, as many as possible of the useful aspects of the idea. In studying any card, one ought not to neglect any of the attributions, because each class of attribution does modify the form and color of the card, and its use." This is probably the most difficult passage we have encountered yet, but I think what he is alluding to is that the average student doesn't stand a chance in hell of intuitively free-associating from the images in his deck. The cards have to be studied with some perspicacity and dedication in order to master their meaning. For example, while the Minor Arcana may be highly evocative in their richness of color and mood, that is just the facade; one still needs a firm grasp of the underlying architecture in order to make the most of them.

I have always wanted to take some serious time to study this deck, and this Thoth Mentorship is INCREDIBLE!!!!!!! Thank you @Barleywine.  The Thoth fascinates me, but I always knew it would take a lot of time and dedication and I get so easily distracted with all the RWS based decks I am so comfortable using.  But I am going to follow this Mentorship closely and start dipping my toes into the water.  I have actually been cutting and pasting posts from here (and your blog piece on the King/Knight piece into a word document so I can print it out for future references.

I actually think the passage above is one of the most profound and one that I actually understand and use when reading Tarot though not to the level of Crowley.  It is one that has helped me wrap my head around Tarot in general (especially the court cards) and can apply to any deck.  Lets take it in its simplest form as applicable to any deck.  You look at the Minor Arcana, you have your number correspondences colored by the element of the suit.  So the expression of the number carries the elemental flavor.  With the court cards its even more pronounces because they have their suit plus their own elemental designation which is how I interpret the "personality" (for lack of a better word) of that court card and how it acts, thinks, etc.  When you add Crowley's multiple layers onto that you get profound depth.  This is what intrigues and draws me to this deck and system.  When you understand how to synthesize those layers of meaning plus the imagery itself it is mind-blowing!  Just the simple number/element layers I use in combination with images has given me more "AHA!" moments than I can count, being able to apply the layers included in Thoth would really take one to an incredible level.

I think I better get myself a new journal or 3 ring binder to finally start studying Thoth system.  I have no aspirations of being able to grasp it all, I really struggle with Astrology, but this deck is trully fascinating.

@Barleywine is on hiatus so this thread has been brought out into the main forum.  There is no longer a need to signup or be in the mentor program.  This is too great a discussion thread to keep away from everyone so even though he isn't here for now, please; keep the Thoth discussion going! :azn:

You probably missed the last post where Saturn Celeste explained that this thread is on hiatus and there aren’t any sign ups anymore. If you wish to add new information to the thread you can. The lessons are found in the previous posts in this thread.
