Thanks for this! Some of the translation is a little wonky ("door hammer"? I wonder if that's a door knocker) but I think an understanding of the problematic words could be had here https://dictionary.reverso.net/

The first methods are surely lost in time. We only have what got written down. Not everyone was a showboater like Etteilla, or even literate.

Hello, @katrinka

You are very welcome 🙂

I once found a far less detailed article, in English, in which the author or authors listed three sets of significations that had been collected from the region of Bologna, but sadly, the applicable web page appears to have been removed: fortunately, I saved a copy upon discovering the content; unfortunately, I have no idea whether the applicable copyrights permit one to share the content online.

Well, hello - I remember Mirror of Cartomancy. There was some excellent information there!

I agree wholeheartedly! I saved each of the articles in which Matt described the significations of each sibilla card.

Matt's blog had a profound impact on me.

I'll be watching this newer blog.

I certainly hope that you will be pleased 🙂

Very interesting. Thanks for sharing! Many of the old interpretations are so straightforward that going to a reading must have been a scary thing 🙂

You are very welcome, @Royalalbatross 🙂

I personally would not have any enquirer or student believe that every instance of fortune-telling is an empowering or pleasant experience: the answers to difficult questions are sometimes difficult.

Hi everyone! I recently became interested in the symbols and meanings (and also games) of tarot cards. I particularly like the Italian and Swiss types. My interest in history and art has helped me a bit; for instance the Death card to me looked immediately like a renaissance “memento mori” (remember death will come to us all, how would that affect your actions today?).

Are there any books or sources where they focus on such historical interpretations?

Thank you!

Italian and Swiss and France types - the canonical. And nothing "fake-occult".

Here  is information about all Tarot trumps symbolism, but in Russian ( can be translated by simple google-translater : there is an option below the list of tages)

Robert O'Neill's Tarot Symbolism is a classic on the very subject. It is difficult to find secondhand as it is long out of print, but you may have some luck online. Some of his conclusions are dated but it is a valuable resource nonetheless. I will also point out that his course book on the Iconology of Tarot is available online.
