You've worked on this.

But be patient. There is still some waiting to be done. Patience is a virtue. Acting out of frustration can lead to failure.

Well put! I’m thinking that this thread is even more suited in Card meanings and so I’m moving it for you 🙂

Ooopps!

My bad.

Just trying to get something started. Wondering what others may say.

I think its a great topic, and I wouldn't mind seeing multiple versions of this card posted. I could add some later if you like? Or did you mainly want to focus on the RWS tradition?

@Raggydoll

It's open to everything.

That's what it's all about.

I just happened to use the RWS.

Other decks would be interesting.

I did promise to feature some different takes on this particular card, so here goes!

Let's start with the more 'common' ones, that emphasize patience.

Like the Halloween tarot:

He doesn't seem very frustrated, but rather pleased with himself. And, I mean - a scarecrow that successfully grows that many beautiful pumpkins do have a lot to be proud of.

But this girl (from the Stretch tarot), on the other hand, seems a bit more underwhelmed and frustrated:

Spolia tarot focuses more on the potential and the growth:

While light seer's tarot emphasizes that there is someone in charge (or who can take charge) of the growth:

But lets take a look at some cards that show different angles than those above!

Stella's tarot is more in line with Thoth and the theme of failure. I like this card because it show how you can feel trapped by your achievements and by your goals:

It also seems to imply that you no longer are (or feel) in control of what happens and that you can feel vulnerable in your position. Another thing that I tend to see in this card is that there are resources to be found but that they are generally not available to you. Sometimes an investment is locked in a business, but it can also mean that you are not the breadwinner in the family or that someone else has charge of the funds (allowances and family money could be indicated, especially with the ten of pentacles).

Then there is the Crone tarot, which takes a whole other approach and focuses on travel:

A peek in the small version of the guidebook:

How about the eastern philosophical approach? Let's check the Roots of Asia:

We will look at the guidebook for this one too:

And finally, a look at the shamanic approach in the Greenwood tarot:

(Here's a snippet from my greenwood binder that has Chesca's original interpretations in it):

Then it becomes something very different again.

Clearly there are more than one way of looking at this archetype and I find it fascinating to see the many angles portrayed by different creators!

I hope other people enjoyed this too 🙂

I certainly enjoyed your addition. You win the trophy.

I really like the Greenwood card and interpretation. Thank you!

I have a different card I want to post later. Hope others will join in too. Everything is welcome.

Oh good. Perhaps we will get to see some historical decks too. (I could have featured a couple of those but decided to draw the line somewhere, otherwise I’d still be posting pics 😅)

Well, I was going to post a picture of the Barbara Walker 7 of Pentacles but I can't get it sent to myself with Kindle for some reason but in that deck there's the key word "Failure" on the top and the meaning is pretty dismal. The LWB says "Seven of Pentacles means a death period of inertia, frustration, lost opportunities, abandonment of vision, demotivation, deceived or fading hope." The image is that of a Knight who has failed in his quest and who is grieving, his armor stripped and his shield broken. Seven stars in the sky are for the Seven Mothers of the World (Pleiades)  who used to announce the period of infertility associated with a sacred kings' dying.

Well, finally---I did get the darned picture uploaded. Normally I use my phone but I had to let that go off this month because of a prescription not covered by my insurance so I had to use my Kindle.

Since everyone posted photos of the 7 of Pents from other decks, I thought I'd toss in the Barbara Walker since her deck is sort of a deck unto itself but if anyone objects, I won't post more of that deck.

I don't think anyone objects to seeing that deck. Its very powerful! I believe it has more thoth-influences, at least in this card 🙂

That's what I thought, too, Raggydoll. It seemed "Thoth-y" to me but Gregory told me that Barbara Walker has her own system of meanings in the deck so it's really her take on it and I do see that that's true, now that I'm reading the larger book she wrote about Tarot. Her approach is more the Divine Feminine and her deck as well as her book are really fascinating. It's a lot to learn, but I really like what she has to say so I decided to devote time to learning it.  I'm going to offer some Exchange readings with it soon so we'll see how it goes.  The book she wrote on Tarot and its origins and meanings is a really interesting book. Amazon had a free download of it that I got so I'm reading that in addition to what the LWB says. The larger book wasn't written about the deck, it's about Tarot itself and the myths and legends about the Goddess and other mythologies. It's heavy on symbolism, too.

The reason I thought I'd post photos of Barbara Walker's deck is because it's not Marseilles, Thoth, or RWS and I thought maybe it would be interesting for others to see a fourth slant on Tarot. I always thought it was a Thoth clone till gregory told me different.

Gregory sure knows her stuff 😀. I have never read with that deck and I have only seen some of the images but I do remember the divine feminine approach in it. I think that most “sevens” are a bit complicated due to their very nature. When we are pushed beyond the sixes it tends to feel uncomfortable and we look for balance and ways to cope or move forward. In the air suit this can manifest as manipulation or strategy, while in the earth suit it can be a stalemate and frustration. The fire suit is of course more action/defense oriented while the water suit can make us try to daydream our way out. I have always liked the sevens because of their complexity and how relatable they can be in a more mundane aspect.

I've had the original version of the deck for quite awhile but never used it or paid much attention to it because I thought the eyes on the end of the breasts of the Princess of Wands  were just plain weird, not to mention the teeth in her crotch (the vagina dentata I think it's called) but now I'm much more interested.  I got the version in the tin in a recent trade so that's what I'm using right now. I don't know where the older version is, but I think I saw it once when I was unpacking some stuff awhile back.

Oh yes, the vagina dentata. It’s pretty unforgettable 😁 It will be interesting to hear how this deck works for you!

Yeah, that vagina dentata is pretty scary, huh? I've been reading about the deck but haven't found anything so far to explain the eyes instead of nipples on the breasts of the Princess of Wands.

I think this is a great topic for the study group. From a quick google search I could tell that the Princess of Wands is depicted as Atargatis and she was a goddess who, among other things, looked out for her people and protected them - so perhaps the eyes are a symbol of that? But I would be interested to hear what other people have to say, so post it in the study group where others can find it most easily

OK I'll do that.  This deck is so full of mythological things and it's a huge amount to remember once I've read it. The LWB is a jewel because it's so abbreviated. lol

I realize this thread is a few months old, but I was browsing (as I'm new here) and came across it. Interesting gly, I've seen the 7 or pentacles three times this week. Once because my book was marked there from an older reading, once from a weekly email I receive, and once in my own daily reading. I use the Gilded Tarot for my dailies.

In this card the woman is looking of into the distance, seemingly focused on something other than collecting her harvest. Almost as if she is longing for more, or daydreaming about future harvests. I get the impression from this deck, that the 7 of pents indicates a need to be thankful for what is present and while future focus is good, one must tend to and acknowledge the current blessings, lest they be unappreciated.

(I'm trying to upload an image of the card, but am struggling to do so 😞 )

I love the different interpretations from other decks.
