An introduction & a question

Hello, I'm Theo, and it's lovely to meet you all. I hope the holiday season has been kind to you all.

I've been interested in cartomancy for three years. I had a Rider-Waite when I was a teen, but I was more interested in trickster deities, and it took over a decade before I appreciated cartomancy. I now practice with two Rider-Waite based decks, and my own 80 card oracle/tarot deck, based on the principles of chaos and Plato's geometry of the universe.

My question relates to that: how many people here have developed their own deck, or wanted to? What would/do your decks include?

Thank you in advance for your answers, I look forward to hearing from you.

Hello and welcome!

Several of us have/are developing our own decks. I made an oracle and am in the process of making a tarot deck (I have some of the courts left to finish). My decks are meant to be read intuitively and there are no layers of occult correspondences, astrology, Kabbalah etc. My goal is to create a deck that speaks to me in a visual language that resonates on a deeper level. I am also wanting it to pair nicely with my oracle deck so they are similar in style. My oracle is just pictures, no keywords and no titles. My tarot deck will have titles/numbering though.

Hi @icosahedron, and welcome to TT&M!

I don't feel creative enough to make my own deck, but many here have.

It's great to hear that, I'd love to see pictures of either, or hear more talk about your process, if you're comfortable. I also really love the idea of the two decks being designed to pair together, in aesthetics and/or readings. Intuitive reading without getting mired in word meaning or definitions sounds like a very neat approach.

Hello! Thank you for the welcome. :} Truthfully I'd encourage anyone to do it simply because of how enjoyable it was as a process, but I think deciding on a theme might have been the hardest part, at least for me. I knew someone who was making a urban-animals-in-city-spaces deck and, I think if there's a strong theme, it's a lot easier to do detail work.

Welcome. I have done so, yes. I made it from my own photos, which were actual places I have been and people I have seen; it meant tying tarot into my life and it taught me heaps.

A couple of friends made me make it available - I got fed up with being harassed ! -  so you can SEE it here.

Hi and welcome to TT&M @icosahedron!

It's cool that you're creating your own deck! I have not, and currently don't have any plans to create my own deck. Not to say that I won't sometime down the road, but not at this point in time. 🙂

Excuse me for hi-jacking this thread, but, @Raggydoll, I hope your Oracle and Tarot cards will someday be available for purchase. 🙂

Thank you for the welcome! It only took me three years. 😂 I like that you're keeping your options open for it if you change your mind, though.

Thank you! I won’t rule it out, maybe after I have had the time to truly test them.

@Raggydoll Good to know. If you do put me on the list please. I like the Oracle cards and your ideas for the tarot cards.

Anybody can do it! If I can learn to draw, anybody can lol!
