Raggydoll Posted May 11, 2020 Author Posted May 11, 2020 I will soon start to add pictures of all the cards to the big guidebook. I will shrink down the image sizes so that we don’t give away the original full size artwork. But I feel it’s important that we do have images next to descriptions since so many have chosen to give in depth explanations of symbolism etc. 🙂
Little Fang Posted May 11, 2020 Posted May 11, 2020 Would people be alright with me running the PDF booklet through a grammar/spelling check? 🙂
Raggydoll Posted May 12, 2020 Author Posted May 12, 2020 I don't mind either. I actually asked a friend to look at mine because my English can be a bit backwards at times.
Raggydoll Posted May 12, 2020 Author Posted May 12, 2020 I renamed this thread and did some unpinning of the other threads so that it would be easier to find the Big guidebook. I have also added pictures to go with all the majors. Pictures for the Minors will of course be coming too 🙂
geoxena Posted May 12, 2020 Posted May 12, 2020 Thank you, Raggydoll! It's really great to see the majors in order, and how one leads to the next.
reall Posted May 13, 2020 Posted May 13, 2020 just checked that Big guidebook thread & Must Say Wow! We Have One Heavy Book here! Can't wait for pdf!:) Congrats Everyone!:D

I would hope that everyone has written their own material and if not, only used brief quotes that are clearly marked as such. I think we have been pretty clear on that.

Well, if their sources require attributions then they should post attributions. But certain pages - like pixabay and unsplash do not require attributions. I still think its good to list what sources you have used, but technically speaking - if someone used Pixabay or Unsplash then they would not have to give credits, not even for commercial use.

I think for next deck, would be good to ask for this. Although you're absolutely correct, you don't have to give attributions for public images that state it's not required, it's sometimes nice to give the original photographers credit. I digitally manipulated a couple free-use pixabay photos for backgrounds on two of mine. I didn't think to jot down the photographer. Not sure if I could find those again online! On next deck (if there is one), maybe you could ask everyone to state what medium the original artwork is in, too (e.g. artist original watercolor/digital/oil, etc. ; photo collage from xxx (give source), etc. There's a smaller booklet with shorter blurbs that'll be offered too, right? The majors look sooooo amazing!! Can't wait!! Thanks again for all your hard work on this @Raggydoll and team!!!
gregory Posted May 13, 2020 Posted May 13, 2020 On unsplash it did ask that we credit them, as does wiki commons.
geoxena Posted May 13, 2020 Posted May 13, 2020 (edited) 1 hour ago, gregory said: On unsplash it did ask that we credit them, as does wiki commons. On Unsplash's Help page, it states: "The Unsplash License allows you to use the photos from Unsplash for free, including for commercial purposes, without attributing the photographer or Unsplash. Though it is not required, we encourage giving credit to Unsplash photographers when possible, as a way of saying ‘thank you’ to the photographers who’ve gifted their photos for free, unlimited use." So, like Pixabay, crediting the artist is encouraged but optional. https://help.unsplash.com/en/articles/2612337-do-i-have-to-give-credit-to-a-photographer-when-i-use-their-photo Wikipedia is different. They have a few different licenses there, and so I believe attribution depends on what type of license it is. Don't forget, if an image had been manipulated to the degree that the source image is hardly recognizable or just a tiny percentage shows, in most cases attribution is not necessary because the artwork would be considered a wholly different piece. Starlight Posted May 14, 2020 Posted May 14, 2020 (edited) Unsplash, in their FAQ, does say that can't freely use pics of people, trademarks, works of art, and so on. This is from the site: Quote Note that the Unsplash License does not include the right to use: Trademarks, logos, or brands that appear in Photos People’s images if they are recognizable in the Photos Works of art or authorship that appear in Photos If you download photos with any of these depicted in them, you may need the permission of the brand owner of the brand or work of authorship or individual depending on how you use the Photo. Please see our FAQs for more information and, if you still aren’t sure, you should probably talk to a lawyer who knows about these things. https://unsplash.com/terms Edited May 14, 2020 by Starlight
