Perenelle Posted March 7, 2020 Posted March 7, 2020 OK well it's finished for what it's worth. Now I just have to figure out the scanner part.
gregory Posted March 7, 2020 Posted March 7, 2020 Perenelle - do you mean it to have wide black borders ?
Perenelle Posted March 7, 2020 Posted March 7, 2020 (edited) 29 minutes ago, gregory said: Perenelle - do you mean it to have wide black borders ? Nono, that measurement inside is the whole card. Plenty of room for cropping! I'm scanning it and shrinking the image to fit into the card measurement. The border will be about the right size for cropping/bleed. Just went to the tech support thread to check this out. Edited March 7, 2020 by Perenelle

Okay, so the 1.25-inch area that you left black is the bleed area and needs to be filled in. You can fix this, don't worry. Just extend the sky with rain all the way up to the top, right, and left to fill in the 1.25-inch "margin." Do the same with the water/ocean - fill in all the way to the bottom, left, and right. See also if you can erase or blend in that line you drew around it. Then your picture will have artwork "bleeding" all the way to the correct measurements with only the important stuff in the center. gregory Posted March 7, 2020 Posted March 7, 2020 YOU don't crop. You supply the image in the prescribed size, with no borders of any kind.
Raggydoll Posted March 8, 2020 Author Posted March 8, 2020 I’ve added a visual demonstration of bleed lines and of the safety area here
gregory Posted March 11, 2020 Posted March 11, 2020 ALL MY CARDS ARE IN! Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee ! I might ought to start thinking about the words now.... (Yes I know, grammar, but I LOVE that as an expression of duty....)

Wanderer Posted March 15, 2020 Posted March 15, 2020 Not quite finished (and a quick photo rather than a scan, which makes bits of it seem rather weak), but thought I might as well try a completely different style for my last one! This is the Nurturer of Air, explaining away the mysteries of the Moon to a group of children... because what he does best is bring clarity and understanding, cutting through mysteries and showing the reality. He's not interested in being a ruler, or going out on adventures; his goal is to help others to see.
Pen Posted March 15, 2020 Posted March 15, 2020 Hi Wanderer, it's coming along nicely - interesting how many of us have used crayons. Perenelle, I do like your kissing fishes. Re. scanning crayon, I discovered something only an hour ago that could have saved me a whole load of corrective work in Photoshop - i.e. that there's an option on my Preview scanning window to 'correct fading', which seems to be worse when scanning crayon than with paint. I checked the tiny box in the Preview window (I'm using Canoscan), and LO! All the colours were bumped up without having to jump through hoops and go round the block to fix the scan. Wish I'd known, but this info. might help someone else.

It did confuse me for a moment, though, because in the UK coloured pencils and crayons are quite different things... (crayons are what we give to toddlers! ) Anyhow, done some polishing and scanned rather than photo (which makes a huuuge difference):

Totally different to my normal - this really was an experiment, totally out of my comfort zone, and with no guarantee of success! Thought it was worth giving a shot, though, and see what the reaction is. Can always do a different version, but I think it sort-of works, in an impressionistic sort of way... I hope the concept works for people, too - it just seemed to make complete sense when I thought of it, but that may just be me. 🤪

I always thought they were crayons as opposed to 'wax crayons'! You're right though - I just looked it up (Penguin) - crayon: a stick of coloured chalk or wax used for writing or drawing. No, not chalk, methinks - chalk is chalk, surely to goodness?
joy Posted March 15, 2020 Posted March 15, 2020 Love the Moon @Wanderer, the description and the image. Bravo for stepping out of the comfort zone ❤️

Ah, the wonders of local idioms! I've always called them 'coloured pencils', and crayons are those coloured sticks made of wax... but yes, chalk is blatantly chalk, whatever Penguin says. Surely..? Aha, it looks as though the chalk ones aren't pure chalk - some sort of new-fangled thing, no doubt...

It was good fun, actually, if slightly scary. Since the Moon is a thing, thought I, why not make use of the concepts in that card to enhance this one? We'll see whether it works in readings, but hopefully. This deck is going to be a lot of fun to play with...
