VGimlet Posted January 10, 2020 Author Posted January 10, 2020 I liked the Forest Enchantment tarot, and I'd waited for it what seemed like a long time, and it is...okay. It just didn't catch me like I was hoping, although I will put it on my list to use later someday. This week I'll be using the Tarot Z - time to let the zombies out! LOL.
Mi-Shell Posted January 11, 2020 Posted January 11, 2020 I am going to have another week with the Light Seer's Tarot. I just did my Luna Group Wolf moon reading for this month's Full Moon with it. So far it reads well, but I will have something to say about the card stock - after all.......
Natural Mystic Guide Posted January 11, 2020 Posted January 11, 2020 (edited) I have just received the Bottanical Tarot (and oracle cards) by Jessica Bott. This is not a Rider-Waite clone. Whenever I receive a new deck, I like to spend some time familiarizing myself with it. It is very beautiful. It will take an extra dose of intuition to read spontaneously with it -- short of memorizing the meanings for all 130 cards -- or perhaps it takes an intimate knowledge of botany. Natural Mystic Guide Posted January 11, 2020 Posted January 11, 2020 Question: how and when is the deck for the week selected? I guess that people can only really participate if they happen to have the particular deck selected, yes?
Queen of Nothing Posted January 11, 2020 Posted January 11, 2020 I really loved the True Black, and I'm gonna keep working with it on the side for the rest of the month. However, this week I'm going with my Madam Clara 2nd edition.
AJ-ish/Sharyn Posted January 11, 2020 Posted January 11, 2020 Natural Mystic Guide, the point of the deck of the week is to work through our decks. This is around my 680th week. I have my decks inventoried, pick one each week (I start a new deck on Sunday) and mark it off the list. When the list is all marked off I reinventory, and start again. At inventory time I pull the decks I didn't much care for and let them go. Easy peasy. Sometimes we do the same deck for several weeks, but the point is to move along, using all our decks. We also don't have any rules...you are welcome to just hang out if you like 😉 Welcome! VG, I'll be using my Rune Deck with art by Gabrielle Gern from 2001 this week, thanks for keeping up the thread! Bhodiseed is upside down this week, house getting major flooring repairs, still from a past hurricane damage, so she is offline. But I don't doubt she has two decks in hand.
Amberjune Posted January 11, 2020 Posted January 11, 2020 @Mi-Shell I’m interested to hear your thoughts on the Light Seer. When I did my first flip through with mine it just seemed so....pretty...and devoid of symbolism. Haven’t picked it up since...but I want to get to know it a bit better somewhere down the road. My decks for the week are the Modern Spellcaster’s Tarot by Melanie Marquis & Scott Murphy and the Forty Servants Deck by Tommie Kelly. thank you for the new thread, @VGimlet!

I for example usually have a deck that I just got, that I am exploring. However, when I have clients coming for readings, I usually let them choose between several of my tried and trusted reading decks, that I am well familiar with. VGimlet is so sweet to open a thread for us every Friday for the coming week. Other participants here have very large collections and go through them with a different deck every week, to use all their decks.

I am glad, you sense that "off" as well!♥ I think, I should maybe open a thread for the deck - with its pros and - not so pro's.... So, that people that search for it can find the info. I hope you help with that!♥
VGimlet Posted January 12, 2020 Author Posted January 12, 2020 (edited) Welcome to the Deck of the Week group Natural Mystic Guide. This is the no rules thread! You can post here about the deck, and how you're liking it - or not. You can read with whatever type of deck even if it's not Tarot (Oracle, Lenormand, Loteria, etc.) and start whenever you want during the week - although if it's during in the middle of the week sometimes I don't get back here to put you on the list right away. (I'm working on being better, HONEST! Heh.) Everyone has covered the rest of it - so have fun and enjoy. Rules are meant to be broken, IMO. So - we don't have them, except the main forum rule of "be nice to each other". I try to start the new thread on Fridays, but sometimes it happens on Thursday night PST, and (rarely) it might be Saturday. Edited January 12, 2020 by VGimlet

Mi-Shell Posted January 13, 2020 Posted January 13, 2020 (edited) OK! @joyand @Amberjune I opened a thread about the deck so we can talk card stock and images!♥ Edited January 13, 2020 by Mi-Shell

Natural Mystic Guide Posted January 15, 2020 Posted January 15, 2020 The Bottanical Deck: First Impressions: Warm and Fuzzy; Love and Light -- Not My first reading was a 3-card spread. 1. What do I need to know about using you? 2. How do you advise that I use you? 3. What kind of readings will I end up doing with you? 1. Temperance - Eucalyptus - keywords: balance, compromise, equilibrium. The theme is about how devastating fires -- like those in Australia right now, can activate hidden sprouts inside of the Eucalyptus that will produce new growth. So despite the bland, normal keywords this is about new growth out of burning and destruction. 2. Death - Suicide Tree - keywords: endings, closure, transformation. So these are the keywords we might expect -- but with this one I learn the fun fact that the seeds of this tree contain a lethal toxin -- one seed is enough to kill an adult. This is the most common plant used to commit suicide with. Yoweeeee Ow-eeeeee. 3. Ten of Carnivorous( this is a suit in the oracles section of the deck. Carnivorous is a suit of evolution and opportunity) --King Pitcher Plant -- keywords: excess, substantial, indulgence Whoa.... Here I learn about this, the largest of the pitcher plants that actually catches and digest insects and mammals as big as rats! This plant is like monstrous and can have digestive fluid of 3.5 liters. This card is cautionary... ? Don't overindulge or you might get eaten? On a cautionary note, I will not indulging in excessive use of this deck. So This feels like a fairly heavy duty deck about major life issues. Interestingly enough, in regular conversation with two guests who are not into Tarot, I ended up pulling out two cards from this deck to illustrate a point. We were talking about the fires and my friend had just caught a beautiful shot of a fleeting dragon fruit bloom. I have been looking for a plant deck. This is the first one that has appealed to me aesthetically. I am very picky. It is a very beautiful deck. I would have been quite miffed had it now included the Queen of entheogens -- marijuana. But here She is Seven of Medicines (in the Healing suit of the oracle portion of the deck).
AJ-ish/Sharyn Posted January 15, 2020 Posted January 15, 2020 Interesting reading Natural Mystic. I'm wondering about the spelling, because being US and having friends in the UK I know lots of english words are spelled differently. But I can't find anywhere but in relations to this deck, bottanical. Does the literature clarify this spelling? Just curious. I mentioned above I've been doing a different deck a week for 600+ weeks now which might have given the impression I have a big collection with 600+ decks. Oh, no...I try to keep my decks down around 60-ish. I do that by weeding out the ones I don't like or am sick and tired of with this deck of the week exercise. I weeded out 10 decks last week while I was reorganizing my deck drawer 😉 Lean and clean, that's me.
Natural Mystic Guide Posted January 15, 2020 Posted January 15, 2020 Quote I'm wondering about the spelling by AJ-ish/Sharyn Well, I wondered about the spelling of the Bottanical deck before I ordered it. So I hit the dictionaries, too. Here is the explanation: The creatrix of the deck is: Jessica Bott!
Natural Mystic Guide Posted January 16, 2020 Posted January 16, 2020 Quote Lean and clean, that's me. This above quote is from AJ-ish/Sharyn I love lean and clean as well. I relocated to Bali a couple of years ago. Faced with having to reduce my entire belongings to what could fit in several 50 pound boxes and 2 suitcases, I had some hard decisions to make. It's interesting to see what makes the cut. For me, I did end up bringing most of my 'ritual' type items -- including some heavy crystals. I further weeded out several more decks from my collection, too. I did bring about 50 decks. I am approaching 60 now. 'Lean and clean' gets applied to all aspects of my life, too -- even relationships! I think that it's a great way to remain in touch with your deck collection.
