He's actually created a deck already called The Rider-Marseille deck. I like the print, too.

That's an interesting deck, I prefer the way he's approached the artwork in that one

Maybe they were ignorant and thought they were being respectful, who knows, but you can’t ever use someone else’s signature no matter what. They could absolutely be sued for it. I’m surprised it hasn’t been pulled from KS. But then again, KS doesn’t seem to care all that much about copyright when it comes to tarot 🙄

I think it's at the very least unethical as well, as she didn't make that new art or those cards. The sig / monogram is put on it just for aesthetic reasons but it gives it authenticity but it's not authorised by anyone.

It's a super complicated area, with so many tarot community discussions on it but I think all her artwork is public domain now, as she died in September 1951. Not all the RWS decks are copyright free but some are and her own artwork is, perhaps this includes the signature and now anyone can use it? 😞

If there was a version without her "mark" on it, I would be interested in this, I like the mash-up of the two systems.

This is the statement about it from the Kickstarter page, to represent the artist....

Quote

Pamela “Pixie” Colman Smith’s signature appears as a visual homage to her artistic legacy. Its inclusion does not imply authorship, affiliation, or endorsement. This deck is an independent work that engages respectfully with tarot history.

Ha! That is as if I painted a new version of Mona Lisa and then added Leonardo’s signature to it, as a ’homage’ ! 🤦‍♀️

I've seen this deck all across the net at the moment, I'm not sure I'm going to order it but thinking about it....

Sefirot: the Gilded Legacy

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/causacreations/sefirot-the-gilded-legacy?ref=project_email_share

It's a queer, renaissance fantasy deck which is gilded. This is an updated reprint of the deck.

Fully funded already and the deadline is the 14th March. From Vienna, Austria

Not sure if this is the right place or if it was posted already (I did search for "bricks" etc first), but I just randomly ran across this on an unrelated Discord...

"Bricks of Fate"  interesting take on card building.

Ahh - a Lego Tarot.

I saw a much simpler version of this quite a while back... I don't think it was every mass printed.

The Tower card just cracks me up!

(A MASSIVE mistake for me to look on threads like this!  I've been avoiding it.)

Thoughts on this deck? He reached two stretch goals already. The most recent was including a set of seven alternate majors of Jaques Vieville style art. The first was adding Juno and Jupiter.

I rather like it...

Oh dear.  Drama's & uproar.

And why IS the artist wearing a crown of thorns???

🤣

ON another issue entirely - is anyone else having issues with Kickstarter ? No matter what I do, I cannot view the usual list of my backed projects; I can't get ANYWHERE, and also although I have submitted my survey MANY times for the Carolingian, I am still being asked for it, and the creator says he has no idea why.... Is it just me ?

Nah, I don't like it. Uninspiring. He can draw the cards himself instead if relying on the genius of other people.

I wonder if you could have blocked too many elements / JavaScript? I have found if you have browser security too high, it blocks websites and trackers. For Kickstarter, for me, I have had to allow a lot just to make it display right 😭. It has countless annoying elements on their pages and trackers. I just loaded it and it's loading fine for me but I have had to turn down the security. Sometimes you have to allow third-party cookies as well.

I would try it in Incognito Mode in Chrome or Private Browsing on Firefox.

@gregory, not the same issues, but I did recently lose the search bar for several days and had to write to them to fix it.

It works fine in another browser, though it DOES do the thing via a popup. I've bookmarked my "backed" page separately now !

Glad there is a solution, but seems like it shouldn't be this hard.

I wouldn't be half as mad if they answered help tickets....! Don't get me started on twitter; completely worse issue there.

So true! Never a solution, but always a request for review. It always has me shaking my head.

New request for input on deck:

I feel like there are several similar decks already out there. Thoughts?

Don't need to think about it - it's in the US ! (This is saving me so much angst !)

Ah, Vinitsky has beautiful decks, I wish I could afford them! (May I  nitpick the title? How is "Liber Somnia" the Book of Dreams? wouldn't that be Liber Somniorum? Or have I suffered years and years of Latin at school for nothing????)

If I ever find the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, I'll head over to Vinitsky's shop as quickly as possible. This deck looks impressive, disturbing, and surrealist in the best sense of the word.

On Kickstarter he offers a package 'deal' of the deck being created and one of his existing decks, the Tarot of Magical Correspondences being one option. I really am sorely tempted but it would have to be a (very) early birthday present to myself!

I don't know any Latin but this is the kind of thing that would also get on my nerves 😅 Perhaps it's an attempt at shorthand to make it more easily accessible in some way?

It really captures that unsettling quality that dreams have, and some of the representations are very clever I think. The artwork is also excellent and I'm all for supporting artists at the moment!

According to google translate -  no; it's correct.. also two other translation sites specific for Latin/English. I don't know how that works either, but.....

If you do it the OTHER WAY, though, it kicks up Liber Somniorum. Ask Eugene !

They are different forms of plurals, I know this is going to drive us all mad, from Wiktionary...

Somnia (Plural Nominative/Accusative): Means "dreams".

Example: Somnia me delectant (Dreams delight me).

Somniorum (Plural Genitive): Means "of dreams".

Example: Libri somniorum (Books of dreams / Dream books).

Wiktionary, the free dictionary

Key Differences

Somnia is the subject or direct object (Dreams/The dreams).

Somniorum shows possession or relationship (Of dreams/Dreams').

Looks like @Nemia time studying was right and the phrasing is wrong for the deck 🤣

He probably could have just called it The Madhouse Tarot The Sequel and a bunch of tarotists wouldn't have to correct his Latin.  😂

yeah, yeah, it wouldn't have sounded so exotic then and probably took up too much space...
