Raggydoll Posted September 23, 2020 Posted September 23, 2020 I wanted to mention that several people on the bonestone page have now posted pictures of how the red guilding on their decks are already coming off. One person shuffled gently twice and it started chipping. Avalon is aware and has commented on it, saying that she’s sad about it and that the printer wouldn’t do a matte guilding like she originally wanted. Not sure that anything can be done, unfortunately. Maybe this wouldn’t bother some people. A couple are saying they would just use a red marker to fix it. But since this is a really expensive deck, I feel I should mention it. I do have several guilded decks and a couple of them have indeed had issues, like cards sticking together or the guilding comes off (the sasuraibito comes to mind, it’s been problematic with its glossy guilding and shiny cardstock). I also have decks with matte guilding, and I think they tend to be more durable. But I believe I have had decks with shiny guilding that has lasted as well. I’m pretty sure of it. So I think this differs from printer to printer.

Everyone who registered a PO box for their delivery will be contacted (they are NOT to contact Avalon herself but to wait until she approaches them so that their messages don't get lost in her inbox) because the deck cannot be delivered to a PO box. All the orders to Norway bounced (I am guessing that means that they were denied entry) and will have to be shipped express instead. They have so far shipped over 700 decks, so they are getting closer. They are shipping the ones with single deck orders first and the very last shipments will be those with 5+ decks. I will update more when I hear something. Tracking numbers should start arriving soon, but it will be sent out manually by Avalon.

Some printers do gild edges MUCH better than others. But it isn't a huge issue for me. I'd have preferred matte and if they wouldn't do what they asked - if she hadn't already made such a mess - I'd have changed printer.... CUSTOMER calls the shots !

I think (not entirely sure) that when her Printer contact switched to a new printer, she just followed along. And it’s possible that the previous printer had planned a matte printing but that the new one couldn’t do it. Maybe they convinced her this was just as good and she didn’t feel like shopping around for another printer. This is just speculation though! I can’t say that chipped guilding is a dealbreaker for me, I personally think stickiness is far worse. Usually those things go hand in hand but probably not this time due to matte cardstock. So I don’t think it will bother me greatly. But yeah, ideally an expensive deck shouldn’t look like that after a day or two 😞 I definitely get why people are disappointed. I haven’t heard anything about my order either. I’ll be sure to let you all know when I do.

So I’m guessing they just registered/sent it off. I have not yet received a tracking number from Avalon. The app I use recognizes every shipment that is tied to my phone number or email.

Thanks It’s one that only works with the Swedish mailing system! It’s a brilliant little thing. The second someone registers my phone number/email for a package I get notified. It said that it was express delivery and that it would be delivered to my door. I’m wondering if this means that there are no customs charges? That sounds way too good to be true. We shall see.. But this means that the second/final batch is now on its way. I’m sure Avalon will start sending out tracking numbers soon but it will take her a while since it’s several hundred orders in this final round.

She has to go and manually finalize it and type in the tracking. I suspect that will take a couple of days to happen. This notification is only happening because the printer has registered the package to my number. So your package should be dispatching now too. All the single deck orders are supposedly sent. The final 5+ decks orders are sent out tomorrow.

(Then again they still show my Canadian passport documents, sent signed for and tracked 5 years ago, as in transit - even thought they arrived on time and I have had the passport for years now !)
