The Tree of Life and the Cards
Lets look at how the Tree of Life was connected to the Major Arcana cards in Grays work. There are also other ways to do that connection out there, as many know already.
So we have the Tree and there are many Images of it all over the net. If someone wants to follow along, finding a nice one may be wise so can relate the text to it, I think is wiser if I don't post any, as up to preference at this point.
The circles are called Sephirot, as we can see they are arranged in pillars. Left one is seen as restrictive, the right one is expanding, the middle as balancing between them.
We can view that the Tree is divided in 4 major ways.
Atzeluth(rods/wands) - there we have the higher 3 sephirot(Binah,Keter and Chokmah).
Beri'ah(swords at its restricting parts of the movement/cups at its expanding) - there we have Tiferet,Gevurah and Chesed
Yetzirah(this moves around and can't have its suit, because it changes a lot depending how much we have opened up and integrated so far) - there we have Netzach,Hod and Yesod
Assiah(pentacles) - there we have Malkuth.
We will view that they form Triangles, that can be seen in books and each has its own sphere of influence.
For example the polarities around Tiferet are human related. That is called Moral Triangle, and as we can see in real life, morality is always about human conduct, no one expect a cow to be moral, nor judge it for not being so.
Then the Triangle around Tifered is made of opening up(Chesed) and closing down(Gevurah) in purely human way. We open up to someone(kindness) and we are at the Chesed Images and influences, while we cut connection(Severity) with someone then we are working in Gevurahs Images and influences. Ideally we are our true self and we are just what we are, no unbalanced movement of being too open or too close, that balance is at Tifered.
The highest 3(Keter etc.), are just merge of all we don't know yet. As such they have Images of containing a lot more then the lowest ones do, as at any point of time what we haven't fully connected with but is out there is a lot more then what we already know. By definition they are very difficult to define, as containing that much they shift and change depending on context. In such a way, we can view them as very abstract ideas, even though in physical matter they would have specific Images as well, but they will also contain all else, as we can see when we get to the cards.
The lowest 3, Yesod in my view, is very well understood in literature, while the other 2, I view very differently, so for now lets stay around the accepted view to it, adding that its also is purely physical aims and balance, Yesod would be viewed as many things, but for average scope of a human being it often may point to mass consciousness, however as to be fair most people are not conscious of it, seems more fair to call it mass sub-consciousness. Similar to water, that can transmit very easily information, it links everyone. That is often called "the astral" as well, and that seems to fit well enough, all good there.
So then, we have the path from the mass sub-consciousness, related to Water in Yesod, going up to purely human Morality and how it influences our true self in Tifered and finally finishing with Keter containing everything else we haven't seen clearly enough yet to define.
All this merges in Malkuth that will just represent the human body(or dense physical world in wider scope) and not much more.
And as far as cards go, the paths going on from the Middle Pillar then, go like this.
Cards.
The Moon as Malkut to Yesod. That is the influence of the Astral, of the Mass Unconsciousness on the person and on the question. Basically, we have asked about something that is showing that specific part of the path. As a human(or event) is growing up and expanding, first step is to look around and connected to human ideas and understanding and see where it stands. For that we have The Moon as first step from the dense physical Malkut to Yesod.
The Sun as Yesod to Tifered. We have seen what humanity has arrived at so far and we try to find our true self in relation to it. What is being too open there(Chesed) for us, what is being too severe(Gevurah) and how that will work for our own self. That expands from the Moon, that is very local to the Earth, to the central of the Solar System as the Sun, where our True Self connects and comes in relation to.
The Star as Tifered to Keter. Here we already have gone through what humanity is dealing with, instinct, old fears and (sometimes) broken down understanding of how it all works and we have arrived at our true self at Tipheret. As this point all existance is open up to exploration and that is endless. So if we look at the Star, that is the first step that isn't single entity, there is only one Moon, only one Sun, but there are endless amounts of stars out there. That at the same time is not "the stars" as one of them is our star. But that suggests the first 2 steps/worlds are traveled through and we have arrived at an open space, where we have sensed our path leading to that specific Star and we just go through it.
Then that also works the other way around. We come from the center of our being in Kether, we go through our own morality, how we define ourselves in relation to others in Tifered, when we reach the human mass consciousness of ideas, interactions and everything else in Yesod until we arrive at the end point of our movement at Malkuth when something gets a complete form, whatever it was that initiated the movement.
So then that is the central pillar, looked from that point of view. Its a cosmic reaching out, same one that humanity also does, it expands and integrates the Moon, as its own "dreaming" aspects, then it finds how it understands itself in relation to the Sun in the center of a group and finally reaches out to the Stars as everything else we can go to, beyond that when we have the technology for it.
The Moon > Sun and finally the Stars is the path from reaching out cosmically and that is balanced, as positioned as the middle pillar of expanding to outside/within.
Then in a reading each of the cards shows what part of the movement one is going through. Are they fully balanced in themselves and are reaching out beyond that(Star), are they trying to find where they stand and how to define themselves in purely human conduct(Tifered) or are they still trying to figure out their path in the human body and instincts, ideas and whatever was left from the ancestors and past experiences in Yesod.
So each of the 3 cards show a different journey. The Sun - one is trying to find themselves in relation to morality and human affairs. Yesod - one is trying to sort our experiences, instincts and the mass of human understanding gathered so far, knowingly or not. And finally the Star- the other 2 are done, now one is moving to something unknown and new. The only "unknown" can exist in the Star. the other 2 can not, in Tifered one is balancing human relations, so they know what they are doing, while Yesod one is not fully awake and aware at that point, but they are generally sensing what and where this is happening at.
In that way, in a reading they can also point to that. Star - something we don't know. Sun - balancing human conduct. Moon - unaware and a little sleeping, balancing out stuff trying to get our head above the water for long enough to see Tifered on the next step(and that is, of course, the Sun).
They can exist in the same time. For example environment at Star and us at Moon, may suggest we are kinda sleeping and not fully aware what is going on, while around us stuff is happening that is suggesting opportunity going far beyond that, of chance for a journey in direction that goes beyond what we would integrate anytime soon(like getting offering for a very serious job in another country, while we haven't finished school yet).
