☕ Let’s borrow The Magician’s tools to do some magic ✨
Cariabella posted a topic in Tarot Talk & Technique
Hi everyone! Grab a cuppa and let’s chat. ☕✨ I wanted to share a fun framework I’ve been playing with over on my blog, Cariabella Esoterics, called The Three-Row Blueprint. It’s all about how The Magician teaches us to do actual magic—specifically, how to sharpen our manifestation skills by unlocking the subconscious. If you look at the Magician’s table, he has four tools. I like to map these directly to Carl Jung’s four psychological functions, which align beautifully with the tarot suits: Sensation (Pentacles): Gathering raw data through our physical senses (what we can see, touch, hear, taste, and smell). Intuition (Wands): Cosmic insights, gut feelings, and potential futures without needing logical proof. Thinking (Swords): Analyzing, organizing, and structurally categorizing that information. Feeling (Cups): Assigning personal, ethical, or subjective value to things—deciding what it’s actually worth to you. (Side note: I wrote a deep-dive blog post on how these elements connect to Jung and the Qabalah if you ever want to get super nerdy about it!) Putting the Tools to Work: A 3-Step Ritual 🔮 Here is how we can intentionally lay these elements out on our own "table" during a practice: Sensation/Pentacles: Prep your space! Light incense, put on music, or chant to get your physical senses fully engaged. Thinking & Feeling (Swords/Cups): Hold your goal in mind while acknowledging that you currently lack it. Blending thought and emotion is the secret sauce of energy transmutation—the ultimate magical technique. Intuition/Wands: Shift your thinking to a state of absolute completion, acting as if the goal is already yours. The Secret Backdoor to the Subconscious 🚪🔑 Jung noticed that most of us lean heavily on one dominant function, use two as sidekicks, and leave one completely in the dark. This weakest one is your Inferior Function. Because it’s sitting squarely in your blind spot, it’s deeply embedded in your unconscious. That means your weakest function is actually your personal backdoor to the subconscious mind. Integrating it is the real key to unlocking authentic magic. Easy Daily Exercises to Strengthen Your Functions You don't need a fancy altar to practice this. You can do it on the fly! Alchemize Everyday Stress: Got yelled at by your boss? Don't waste that energy! Sit in your car or a quiet corner and use that frustration to fuel a completely different manifestation (like a new car). To anchor yourself, engage your senses internally: visualize a peaceful river, hear the birds, or replay the taste and smell of your morning coffee. The Senses Check-In: While walking or working, take a moment to notice everything you can physically see, hear, feel, taste, and smell. Then, close your eyes and recreate those exact sensations internally in your mind's eye. 💬 Let’s Discuss! How do you see these four functions playing out on your own Magician’s table? Which suit or Jungian function do you think is your "inferior function" or blind spot when trying to pull things down from the astral into the physical? Drop your thoughts below! 👇✨ -

We aren't on any sort of schedule here @BrightEye 🙂 Welcome to the group! The DOTW Group is a fun and enlightening way to share how your decks can work for others, to highlight new or unique reading techniques and spreads, and perhaps to introduce new decks for other members. - Yesterday

Welcome back to the place @timtoldrum Glad you found us again 😀

Do you think it was this oracle? https://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/cards/halloween-oracle/ I don't know the extra deck I am afraid 😞 Seven Stars with her custom deck printing and Deck of the Bastard Tarot and annual edition of her Samhain Lenormand had a deck of extra cards. She called them Samhain Treats. They were really public domain Halloween postcards from the Victorian Era. I have read with them as an oracle and it went well but they weren't designed as a commercial oracle originally. Some of them are very weird images 🙂 . I wonder if this is something like that.

Welcome back @timtoldrum aka Andy B. 🤗

I'm sorry to hear the reason for your absence but hope that you are well now. I took your course in 2015 that you generously offered for free with a suggested donation to an organization. It still informs any reading I do with Lenormand. Glad to see you here.

Long ago when the Halloween oracle (from Australia, I think) came out, the creator was also sending out a deck of images which weren't designated as an oracle; my decks are rather buried right now so I can't quite find it. But has anyone here ever tried to actually use it as an oracle? Back in the day I thought I might try to read with it, but I never got around to it. Thoughts?

Warm greetings, @timtoldrum. While I didn’t have the pleasure to interact directly with you before, I have benefited a lot from your Lenormand teachings and just wanted to thank you, and say that I am very happy that you are back to the forum. May you always be healthy and happy, Moon-Hermit

Reading the Corners of a Tableau -- Your Favorite Method? Criss-cross or a Z? Or?
timtoldrum replied to Misterei's topic in Lenormand
Personally I would suggest first reading the cards sequentially in a circular fashion (from the upper left across to the lower left), and thereafter considering them in opposing pairs (upper left to lower right, and upper right to lower left). At times, these diagonal pairings serve to reinforce the prevailing theme (of the circle) or to lend a further layer of nuance. But from time to time they can offer additional permutations, such as traditional timing combinations or as a cautionary indicator. The corner cards themselves tend to demarcate and define the scope of the reading. While it is perfectly possible to introduce houses into the interpretation, this constitutes a distinct method and sometimes is best not to be conflated with the reading of the corners per se. -
Good evening, My name is Andy B., and after a rather prolonged absence owing to personal circumstances and a spell of ill health, I am very pleased to find myself returning once more. My principal interests lie in the esoteric arts—particularly tarot (with a fondness for the Marseille, BOTA, Rider–Waite–Smith, and Thomson Leng traditions), as well as Lenormand, palmistry, Belline, and traditional astrology (Hellenistic to Renaissance). In former years I had the privilege of teaching, though I am now comfortably retired. I very much look forward to reacquainting myself with the forum, engaging in thoughtful discussion, and observing the developments that have taken place during my hiatus. With kind regards, Andy B.

Hi All It’s Andy. Due to personal circumstances and ill health I took quite an extended break. My site was deleted by friend rather than myself (due to an issue with Scribd). Most of the material is now uploaded to https://thecartomante.wordpress.com. I’ve found out some articles that were not posted (or formed part of my courses or mentorship programs) and will be over the next few weeks. I’m not actively teaching these days, so I can’t promise anything new. But there are loads of good teachers around so it’s no hardship. -
24) This is hard one - If If everything is Love and Light (core believe I have) then everything even the "bad" or "good" things are the same . If you react to things like this does Tarot even matter ? If every card you pull leads to love and light ?

Yes, great. Thanks. I never knew about Eudes Picard before. So this is an enlightening moment. I am glad that I asked the question. Learnt something new, https://wikitia.com/wiki/Eudes_Picard I searched more about Eudes Picard, and it seems interesting and useful system to know. -

Great info. Interesting. I find this deck very nice. It is just ideal size for shuffling too. I like the vibrant colour of each cards, and I seem to be able to conjure up stories from the reading relevant to the questions. I just found it a bit unfamiliar with the LWB meanings on some cards which are different from what I know as traditional meanings of the cards. -

Thank you for bringing this to my attention. That's right up my alley! What a pitty that one of the stretch goals is coloured edges. I could certainly do without. -
@vendrazi since you had taken his class in the past what was the medium of instruction? I attempted contacting the admin of the website where this course was posted about, but i received no reply from them!

For anyone who might be interested in the 200 card oracle deck, School of the Heart, based on the 17th century lottery book emblems, it funded already and is cheapest in the first 24 hours. It posted 9 hours ago, so time yet. (There's also a cheaper 50 card version of the deck.) The School of the Heart Oracle Deck by Una in space — Kickstarter - Last week

@alethian I believe the Thomson Leng deck uses the Eudes Picard system for the minors. The Thomson Leng looks similar in design to the Knapp-Hall Tarot, which I own. Though the Knapp-Hall minors are not illustrated, the arrangement of the suits on the numbered cards is similar to the Thomson Leng. The Tarot Balbi also uses this system, for example. I used to have a complete guide to the Eudes Picard minors. I will see if I still have it in my archive.
