Ryan doesn't get it and never has. You have only to look at the book he put out with the Wildwood - which he first tried to market as the new Greenwood. Lifted in chunks from the book he wrote for the Greenwood - and doesn't even take the trouble to make the text match the card (the most glaring example being the text for the Archer card - which describes the Greenwood card, not the Wildwood.)

Yes, I was able to borrow the Mark Ryan book through a library and I took, shall we say, very extensive notes. The information on the minors is extremely sparse. I've seen little white books with more info. Which I find pretty annoying when there is so much fluff about his childhood and career. For me, the biggest difference between the Ryan book and Potter's writing is the Reflection card. Ryan says it is related to the Hanged Man, and all the youtube creators I've seen have accepted this as well, even when they have self-printed decks courtesy of Mi-Shell. But on her blog, and in Chesca's booklet, it says Reflection is similar to the traditional High Priestess, who was replaced in the Greenwood with the more grounded Seer. She also relates the imagery to the one virtue (out of the four cardinal virtues) that is missing from the traditional deck--Prudence. Ryan doesn't mention any of that.

I recently came across something that reminded me that we have three "brains" in our body: in our head (logical) in our heart (emotional) in our gut (intuitive) Which inspired me to use them as three facets to determine how we see / feel about someone (persons, in friendship settings, relationship settings, family, or at work or other circumstances ) or something (ideas, opportunities, jobs, news, etc) The idea is to pull a card for each of the brains and get a general picture on how the subject of the question is perceived. It could turn into a decision help, or help determining one's own priorities. I am aware that it might be similar to the "mind / body / spirit" idea, but I think the difference is that it stays on one subject and analyses it from different angles. What do you guys think, and would you try that out? I'd love to hear your experiences with this.

Thank you 🥰 Yes I was very active, but then things changed and I had less time, lost my own connection, and couldn't really find it again. Things have changed a bit again, and while I don't have much more time, I have more bandwidth to decide on my priorities. Tarot, reading and my own development used to be a huge priority, and I plan on getting back into my grooves 😁 I am chomping at the bits to get started reading again! (and while a comment on my reading style is welcome, I won't diss it, my request for feedback will mainly concern the nail - did I hit it on the proverbial head or did I hit my own thumb...)

Welcome to the community @karma_eleon I'm glad you found us over here I joined AT in the last 6 years and remember seeing many earlier posts and threads from Simone around the place 🥰 When you get to 5 posts around the forum you can access the reading and exchange areas. Like AT, you can offer readings for feedback and we still have monthly circles if you want to join them. We chase for feedback on readings posted for interpretation and readings offered. You are welcome to specify what you want from your readings offered, so you can for feedback about your style specifically if you wish. Bascially like AT, you can decide what you are offering and what you want back, as long as there is feedback for a reading meeting the forum rules.

I did not know about 'interview spread' before reading this spread. I wonder if I could do this to my old decks. 😄 For me, to get to know a new deck, I look through all the cards. I pick out the one that catch my attentions and try to figure out why the card(s) catch my eyes. Then I pull a Hello card just to get a 'feel' of the deck. (Hope this make sense). The best way to know the cards for me is to do readings. I try not to 'fix' a deck with initial impression.

This is what I do. I prefer this, randomized. If I pull some cards out and reverse them by hand, I may overthink. Hope this make sense.

Thank you for that, I'm sure I remembered an area that posts like this could go into but I couldn't find it! Oh great spot, thank you, and actually the video does an excellent job of portraying how special the exhibition is. That final installation where you step into a room full of lights is really something else. I really hope they produce one, the gallery does state that its mission is to 'render contemporary art accessible to all'. So why not produce a virtual tour to make it more so? I might email them actually... I was surprised at how short the run of the exhibition is given how much work there is included, and I was also surprised that there was no catalogue produced. I would have loved one. Yes, they ran a day workshop aimed at children as well which I thought was really fun. The date didn't work for us sadly, my daughter would have loved it! They're also running one based around the making of sigils which is so cool, we're away on holiday when it's happening though ☹️

Interesting! Probably wouldn't be able to do that this year, though. (I fondly remember one a loooong loooong time ago, in Framlingham)

Hi, Finally got around to saying hello, but here I am now! (Some of you may remember me as Simone from AT) I have been missing a place where I can offer readings, discuss Tarot and other tools, where others know what I am talking about. I have been away from cards for way too long, and then I started searching around, got dragged into Discord servers where I tried offering readings but got just about no feedback or comments on my reading style rather than the reading itself (yes, I seem to have good "bedside manners" as a reader, but that isn't helpful to find out whether the reading made any sense...) So I am hopeful that I'll find my "family" here, and I am looking forward to new card adventures!

The book that came with the deck as marketed was one of the many reasons Chesca distanced herself from Ryan and posted her own. I think I did once scan the whole nasty book for someone, and I also have a pdf of Chesca's - so VERY much better. I wonder if the auction is REALLY the original....

@Scozz I've moved your thread to the general discussion area as it's not related to professional or business reading 😃. I think quite a few people make paper notes when they do a reading and then write it up properly later. I used to do this but now I do all my writing in a digital journal. I make notes or bullet points and then write it out longer. It's helpful to me to make notes on my first impressions and quick notes and come back to it. I don't really write it out twice though, just make a longer reading from the original points.

In the times of this site, PDF's weren't a big thing, they became a popular format in the late 2000's as internet speeds started to improve for downloading. Does it compare with your pdf? In that web version, the spelling error at the start, complements, is corrected! I have checked my deck, it comes with a larger book which is 118 pages in total. The text with compliments is not in the book at the start, it's a poem by Mark and then a preface. It's not illustrated and goes into the cards much deeper than those summaries, it's about 2 pages a card and the start has chapters about the Fate and the Tarot, Wheel of the Year diagram. There are not other diagrams, like the tree one. Justice talks about the stag but doesn't mention Herne the Hunter at all.

That's interesting. I have a question, as I wasn't aware of this two-stage approach before I read your topic. Do you mean that people are first writing their reaction to a spread in a physical (paper) journal, and then immediately re-writing it into a digital format? Or is the digital journal entry 'after the fact'—an update on how the original reading 'turned out?'

I'm quite new to this wonderful community and I've been reading back through the older journal threads here rather than starting a new one, and I noticed something in them I haven't seen discussed on its own. Several people describe writing a reading up twice. Paper first, in the moment — then transferring it to something digital later, and finding that the second version comes out longer. One person described the paper version as the first go at the spread, with the digital one being where it gets fine-tuned. That's stayed with me, because it suggests the second writing isn't just copying. Something happens in the gap. So for those of you who do it: what actually changes between the two? Do you understand the spread differently by the time you write it out again? Does anything from the first version get dropped, or turn out to be wrong? And for those who write it once — paper only, or digital only — was that a decision, or just how it settled? I'm curious about the ones that never make it to the second stage too. If the paper version is where it stops, does that mean anything about the reading, or just about the week you were having? I've been looking into whether anything useful can be built for people who keep records of their readings, and the two-stage thing was something I'd never have guessed at. So this is me asking rather than assuming.

I hope it’s ok to revive this old thread. Years ago, I came into the possession of a PDF version of ‘A Guide to the Greenwood Tarot’. I no longer recall when or where I got it, but it has a now defunct web address superimposed as headers and footers on each page, so maybe I got it there. Judging by the text quality, it was a photocopy of a printed booklet that someone scanned and uploaded. There is currently an auction listing for the original set that also includes the booklet by Chesca Potter (I wish her well). The listing has pictures of the front and back of the booklet, the inside covers, and the first page of text. That first page of text is identical to the one in my PDF, and nearly identical to what is on Mi-Shell’s Voice within the Cards, beginning with, “This book compliments the information,” (with complements misspelled), and ending with, “there is no need to steal imagery from other cultures.” From there, Mi-Shell’s blog goes into the individual cards, starting with The Fool, but the PDF has several pages describing the Wheel of the Year, along with three different diagrams of the Wheel. These are labeled as Figures 2, 3, and 4, so hopefully the image of the World Tree on the front cover counts as Figure 1, otherwise there’s more to it, and I am missing that. In addition to the placement of the cards, seasonal festival days, suits, and elements, the first diagram depicts the intertwined red and white serpents (or dragons or horses) that are shown on the drum on the cards backs, Balance, Three of Wands, and more. This illustrates which cards are noted as having red or white polarities, and in the text she explains what those represent. The second diagram depicts a tree inside the wheel. The third has an outline of the Fool’s human figure (no wings), and places the chakras around the wheel with the Crown chakra at Imbolc and moving around to the Base chakra at Samhain and Womb chakra at Midwinter. The Fool’s navel is at the exact center of the Wheel. Additional text explains the diagrams and the colors associated with the suits and the festival days. The card descriptions appear to be the same, though I have not done a side-by-side, word-for-word comparison. The one difference I have noticed is the that booklet introduces the Justice card as being inspired by Herne the Hunter from the Robin of Sherwood series, where that paragraph does not appear on the blog. ~~ I printed some of the individual cards from the Greenwood Tarot for use on my altar space a number years ago, but only recently I have had the entire deck printed and read both books to try to understand the system as a whole. I have to admit it has taken hold of me. I think this is a magical, revolutionary deck that was ahead of its time and I would love to have someone to ask questions and share discoveries with. I think it’s a shame that it has gotten bogged down in so much mess.
