    New Deck Randomizer

I used riffleohdammit last night with my Tarot of Magical Correspondences deck. It’s slippery! edit: Sorry to hear about your deck! It’s great that you have a backup.

    New Deck Randomizer

I have what I think of as the "Frog-Pond Randomizer." Whenever I try to riffle, I don't get one or two jumpers, I get a whole frog-pond of 'em, all over the floor.

    Not new but back

Thank you! That’s great to hear. I’m excited to be back! I have gained roughly 30 decks since I was last here 😁 Can’t wait to gather more knowledge (and probably decks).

    Not new but back

Hello @Mondaygirl great to have you back. Once you have 5 posts you can post everywhere. So far you already have 3. And each post - not new thread - counts. 🤗

    Not new but back

Hello all! I joined years ago, and I fell out of love with the tarot for a while. I’m getting back into it, though, and I’m looking forward to reading lots and hopefully posting too. 💕

    New Deck Randomizer

I just thought I'd share a deck randomizing technique I discovered tonight when using my Gold Foil deck. I don't know where to I'd had quite a long day because we have guests for the weekend. I was tired and I spilled some water on the floor. After cleaning the water up I went about my day for a couple more hours. Then----horror stricken---I noticed that the bag with my Star deck had been lying on the floor where I didn't see it and all the cards were totally saturated . I picked it up but it may not be salvageable. Good thing I have another one packed away. , Then I took out my Gold Foil deck and sat down to riffle the Gold Foil a few times, but when I did that the first riffle, the 10 second randomizer was born. My first thought was that I wished it would have been the one that got wet. But I wasn't very energetic for picking up the slippery plastic cards so here's what I named it: Riffleohdammit---guaranteed 10 second deck randomizer for the Gold Foil deck. Overhand is more manageable with this deck even though it's easy to riffle.

Do You Use a Surface Pad or a Cloth to Do Your Readings On?

I usually put the cards on my old oak wood table. Just because it's convenient, honestly... It's a salon table and I can sit on the soft carpet while doing the reading. But I only do readings for myself, so I don't need anything that's easy to bring somewhere else (imagine dragging a solid oak wood table around😆). I am planning on bringing the deck along on future solo motorcycle trips, and do readings in nature. But I could just use the bike's saddle, then (it's quite flat).

    23: Libra 3 (4 of Swords)

I am thinking of 4 as a square foundation - a sort of platform that we move forward from. Interestingly, or not, I pulled the 4 of Swords from my beloved Arcus Arcanum deck today. The card shows a man seated among 4 of his ancestors' suits of armour and he's processing his thoughts. I feel it's like he's going through a movie of his life in his mind, the steps he shoulda-coulda taken, the people he knew etc. This is a really contemplative and calm place and space he's in, but he's here because he had a setback. He's got to sift through the possibilities that remain for him and what to do next. I love the sensibility of the book meaning: He has had a setback. He has come to his senses. He is in a solitary decision making process, a decision that no-one else can help make for him. This marries nicely with Justice as a sort of sifting and balancing (past and future), and the Wheel of Fortune (past and future).

Decks that are nearly impossible to shuffle

LOL at this point, ALL decks are impossible to shuffle with the arthritis hands 🙄 But, yes, Lightseers is particularly annoying to shuffle--but i still use it. Also Tarot H'arts. Same issue. The cards are too big and they want to stick together. I also use this deck but under protest. LOL I amlost gave it away from shuffle frustration--but in the end kept it b/c i do enjoy reading with it.

    Faces on the cards.

Personally I could not read that deck b/c I ignore celebrities and know nothing about them. But this possibly evokes a renaissance tradition where some of the courts or majors of tarocchi decks were characters from popular lore, mythology, commedia dell'arte and whatnot. Similar concept--people would know something about the card b/c they knew the character portrayed.

    Faces on the cards.

Hahaha. Not a very well received deck. I think I thought it was clever because if you know the lore behind the celebrities you’d be able to read into it that way (not that I know much about celebrities). Otherwise yeah there’s not much to read. As for Oprah I think it fits. The King of Pentacles is usually talked about in terms of his financial success and love of luxury and the empire he’s built, and I feel like that applies to Oprah pretty well.

    Faces on the cards.

Well...there's hardly anything else happening in the cards... and shouldn't Oprah be a Queen? Lol.

    Gold Foil Tarot

Ahh - I see! As you mentioned Gold Foil - I was googling here and there - and ofcourse I then found these "Gold Foil" decks Waterproof! Yessssss!: https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/JoyfulTreasureBox?ref=shop-header-name&listing_id=1833586604&from_page=listing So I have ordered and I await my waterproof gold foils 😇
  23. I de-bordered my Golden Tarot by Cat Black - and regretted it. It looks nicer with the borders on. Sigh. I supposed I should just get a new one... but noooooo - I am attached to my de-bordered one. Lol.

    23: Libra 3 (4 of Swords)

Oh, of course. I hadn't thought of that. Yes. (Mary-El Tarot minors are heavily based on majors with the same number. Mentioned throughout her accompanying book. It especially changes the 9s, I think. ) I wonder though, since this person knows the side of you that you feel comfortable sharing with them. A relative used to tell me I was defensive about everything. Years later, I saw a therapist, and when I eventually mentioned that defensiveness was an issue for me, she said I seemed like one of the least defensive people she'd ever met. I still remember the surprise and how it felt to hear that. Not so much that one person was right and the other was wrong; I know we interact differently with different people. But just the idea that I might not be 'a defensive person' was new and lightened a load I was carrying. Anyway, I have no idea how much you speak up for yourself, but I like Ajahn Chah's saying, "Not sure, not sure," leaving room for uncertainty and self-reflection.

    23: Libra 3 (4 of Swords)

I think this every time I read/see a 4 card, connecting them with the energy of the Emperor. I was recently told I avoid speaking up for myself and because of that I don't have intimate relationships and I put others before me - more to it of course, but this was the gist of it.

What's The Postman Bringing? Part 2

I had about 4 Tarot calendars by Major Tom (of Major Tom's Tarot) - before he moved to the US. I can't find them anymore... so... they may have gone into a charity box 😱

    "Need" a fairytale deck

Where did you find your companion book for the baba studios Fairytale tarot? I have the deck too but I got it in a trade and don’t have the book. I’ve searched for it a few times in the past few years, but no luck. It’s not too bad because I can just google the stories but I’d like the book. Did you use any specific search terms?
  28. When I was around 22 years old, when I first got my Shadowscapes deck, I heard a tip that if you sleep with a card under your pillow you may dream of it or have interesting dreams. I used to have intense dreams, insomnia, and sleep paralysis so that sounded appealing. I tried it with my favorite card, the Star, and of course when I woke up it was creased 🤪 I went to take a picture of it and it was worse in my memory. I guess it healed 😂 You can mostly see it on the title, which isn’t too bad. If I were to try this again, I’d put it in a book first. I saw that suggestion after trying my experiment. It should’ve been obvious to me, but lesson learned anyway. And yeah, I didn’t stop using the deck, of course.

What Is Your Favorite Tdm Deck?

10 months have passed. I've got more decks, and my favourite have changed. Now my preferred Tarot de Marseille is the François Gassman 1840, reproduction by Yves Reynaud 2020. It is slightly improved compared to the original cards. Black lines are restored to true black while the original drawings were partially covered by the colours. On the other hand, the dark purple of the original has become a more ordinary dark blue here. And the back of the cards is blue instead of white. It has everything we could ask from a TdM : elegant but neutral faces. Bright colours, but no too bright. Good print quality. On top of it, swords and wands are in the italian style, with handles. I haven't seen the reproduction by Scarabeo. My second preferred ones are -Tarot de Marseille - Paris 1890 CA by Scarabeo (but it is actually a tarot de Besançon) -Marseille Vintage Tarot by Scarabeo (but the faces look a bit sad and tired) -Tarot de Marseille by Colette Sylvestre (facsimile of the Grimaud 1930, a bit dim, with the well-known repetitive red/blue hues, and the bizarre page of cups) -Le Véritable Tarot de Marseille, by Kris Hadar -Tarot de Marseille, by Jodorowsky and Camoin (ultra-bright colours) I don't have the Conver-Ben Dov, unfortunately, so I can't rank it. Not my favourites : -Ancien tarot de Marseille, by Grimaud (poor print quality, ultra-bright colours) -Tarot de Marseille, by Mary Packard, drawn by Rachel Klowes after the Pierre Madenié (but with different faces, and faked ancient look on the cards) -Le Tarot Pas à Pas, facsimile of Pierre Madenié's tarot. That's one of the greatest tarot de Marseille, here faithfully reproduced, but the original drawings are extremely worn. It has been restored several times, but no restoration has convinced me yet. -Marseille Tarot, by Scarabeo. No way : -Ancien Tarot de Marseille, by Dusserre. Print quality worse than Grimaud, with some cards discoloured with no reason. -Tarot of Pierre Madenié 1709, by Yves Reynaud 2022. A great tarot, but this particular 2022 version was printed with the brightness setting turned way too high, which caused "crushed highlights" as we say in photography. -Tarot de Marseille édition Millenium, by Wilfried Houdouin. Now I must admit that this one is of very good quality. It's just that I don't like it at all. The ghost-white faces freak me out. -Tarot de Marseille, Nicolas Conver, by Emmanuelle Iger. In itself, it is a very good reproduction of the original Conver. Barely cleaned up (but smaller, and with gilted edges). It's just that I don't like the original to begin with. Side by side with the Pierre Madenié 1709, it can't stand the comparison.
