Long ago when the Halloween oracle (from Australia, I think) came out, the creator was also sending out a deck of images which weren't designated as an oracle; my decks are rather buried right now so I can't quite find it. But has anyone here ever tried to actually use it as an oracle? Back in the day I thought I might try to read with it, but I never got around to it. Thoughts?

Personally I would suggest first reading the cards sequentially in a circular fashion (from the upper left across to the lower left), and thereafter considering them in opposing pairs (upper left to lower right, and upper right to lower left). At times, these diagonal pairings serve to reinforce the prevailing theme (of the circle) or to lend a further layer of nuance. But from time to time they can offer additional permutations, such as traditional timing combinations or as a cautionary indicator. The corner cards themselves tend to demarcate and define the scope of the reading. While it is perfectly possible to introduce houses into the interpretation, this constitutes a distinct method and sometimes is best not to be conflated with the reading of the corners per se.

Hi All It’s Andy. Due to personal circumstances and ill health I took quite an extended break. My site was deleted by friend rather than myself (due to an issue with Scribd). Most of the material is now uploaded to https://thecartomante.wordpress.com. I’ve found out some articles that were not posted (or formed part of my courses or mentorship programs) and will be over the next few weeks. I’m not actively teaching these days, so I can’t promise anything new. But there are loads of good teachers around so it’s no hardship.

24) This is hard one - If If everything is Love and Light (core believe I have) then everything even the "bad" or "good" things are the same . If you react to things like this does Tarot even matter ? If every card you pull leads to love and light ?

Great info. Interesting. I find this deck very nice. It is just ideal size for shuffling too. I like the vibrant colour of each cards, and I seem to be able to conjure up stories from the reading relevant to the questions. I just found it a bit unfamiliar with the LWB meanings on some cards which are different from what I know as traditional meanings of the cards.

I hadn't seen that. I prefer it plain too.

Thank you for bringing this to my attention. That's right up my alley! What a pitty that one of the stretch goals is coloured edges. I could certainly do without.

@alethian I believe the Thomson Leng deck uses the Eudes Picard system for the minors. The Thomson Leng looks similar in design to the Knapp-Hall Tarot, which I own. Though the Knapp-Hall minors are not illustrated, the arrangement of the suits on the numbered cards is similar to the Thomson Leng. The Tarot Balbi also uses this system, for example. I used to have a complete guide to the Eudes Picard minors. I will see if I still have it in my archive.

I’m a day late but hope I can still join? If so, I’d like to spend time with The First Occult Tarot, a deck I’ve always wanted and finally found. My cards for today (23/6): King of Pentacles - The Queen [aka the Empress] The two seem to challenge each other. The King seems to suggest the Queen be more grounded. This is exactly what I need to be this morning.

I bought this deck a few year ago. It is a reproduction deck, not the original. It is really nice quality deck with good quality stock and colourful printing. Each cards are exactly same as the original cards. I used to have a battered original Thomson Leng deck before this reproduction was bought. But the original deck was sold. Cannot recall how much it was sold for - not much due to poor condition with the age wear on each cards. But because I liked the deck, and regretted selling it, I bought this reproduction deck soon after. But then forgot about it, just leaving it in the drawer for months. A few days ago, I have taken out this reproduction Thomson Leng deck and used it a few times. But the Little White Book included in the deck has different meanings compared to the popular meanings we get from the Golden dawn tarot books or the books by AE Waite and other popular contemporary tarot books. For instance 8 of cups is described as you will marry a good partner, and it is a very good card. 5 of Cups is also good card for extremely good luck. 5 of pence (pentacles) is for receiving unexpected rewards etc. So where do these meanings in TL deck LWB originate from? Do you own this deck? Do you use it at all? What do you think of the difference in LWB meanings in different decks, and how should we use them in the real readings?

Happy solstice everyone! This week for me will be Tarot of the Sephiroth. This was my gateway deck to learning the Golden Dawn system. Before it, relying on The Pictorial Key, I was feeling like I had learned everything I needed to know about tarot. And then boom! My eyes were opened! The art is really quirky, but I like it. As you see, it illustrates the sephiroth of each card on the card, including the paths for the majors. I like how the court cards are each a quarter of their sephiroth’s circle. And, yes, I laid it all out as a complete tree on my bed so many years ago. The deck is now a proud member of my “Golden Dawn Not Thoth” collection. Let’s give it a try! What is your most important characteristic? Prince (knight) of Swords It’s a teaching deck that should be used for learning. What is your strength? The Wheel of Fortune It also has a LOT of symbolism! It can take you where you want to go, with more or less symbolism. Your weakness? Ace of Cups You either love it or hate it. The artwork is definitely quirky. What can I learn from you? Ace of Wands I’ve already learned so much from it! I can learn to act on what I learn, not just store it in my head. How can I learn it? Prince of Disks Two princes and two aces. I can learn to take action on my insights by working on them. Practical, physical actions. What will be the outcome of our work together? Five of Wands I am now in healthy competition with the deck because I’ve come up with my own correspondences (that use some of the same and some not). It will push me toward creating something similar for myself. Wow! That’s pretty positive for a five. So we’ll see about that.

I'm in this week with the Wild Unknown Tarot paired with the Pictish Oracle that I created: Listen, are you breathing just a little, and calling it a life? —Mary Oliver This little fellow reminds me of a wood duckling. Only a few days after hatching, the mother leaves the tree cavity and calls for her little ones to jump 40 to 50 feet to the ground. What innate trust they have! The Fool asks us what is calling that would require a leap from our comfort zone. It might be a trip, a new hobby, or reaching out to someone we'd like to become friends with. We need to take these chances so that life will be fulfilling and we'll continue to grow. The Mirror and Comb suggest we take a moment to reflect when we find ourselves stuck rather than leaping. Haven't we spontaneously jumped at opportunities in the past and being rewarded by it? It is worth remembering that we can continue to bloom, no matter what our age or circumstances.
