Card Directions in Lenormand
Mister replied to Moon-Hermit's topic in Lenormand Card Studies@Moon-Hermit Most of what comes now won't be news. It is neither "da best" nor generally binding. Its how I fare with the three cards you mentioned above: the Key, the Mountain and the Snake For the Key I take note where the bit points, that is the card unleashed; the locked one is the one on the side of the shank. They do differ per pack, indeed - Dondorf and Blue Owl open up the right side, the Brepols the one to the left - and then there are cases where it is ambiguous, such as with the Game of Hope. If things are not so clear, I default to sequence of layout, that is, read the card to the left as locked, the card to the right as unleashed. With the Mountain, I mind the sequence as well, say if I lay the line out from left to right, a mountain to the left is less troubling (sometimes kind of beneficial, even) than one to the right. Same with top and down. Mountain atop is much heavier than one at the feet. So, not much going by picture with that one for me. And the Snake. Depends on - Where's my dictionary? - how much "to the fore" she is, concerning the read. If she's just sitting there at a distance, I do not care much about what she is facing and where, save for the moments my attention is somehow captured by her - when she's close, I do observe what she wants to get (direction she's facing) and what matter she complicates/clings to (card behind or the side where the tree is). The card she's looking at can also be something she's pissed about. It is a deduction from what she wants to get - rid off, in this case. Why exactly she wants what she wants I read best from whats above her head if there is anything, if not: see below. Card No.7 has a strange feature: There are few decks where the Queen and the head of the snake face in the same direction. There is a tendency to read what is at the back of the head of a court card as, well, what's at the back of the head of the person represented by it, in other words, their intention or reason. I find it works, however, with the snake I have to watch which one appears more striking to me - the Queen or the Snake - and read accordingly. With the Brepols, it is the Queen, with the Blue Owl, it is the Snake. No idea why, though. Still works. The old Dondorfs are particularly nice in that regard, they look in the same direction. So to her left is her target, to the right her reason (in a line) or the matter she complicates by clinging to it, which will most likely have something to do with her reason. -
Card Directions in Lenormand
Moon-Hermit replied to Moon-Hermit's topic in Lenormand Card StudiesOkay, I don't know why I didn't notice this earlier but I came across it in Andy Boroveshengra's book (mine is the new 2015 edition) and here is what is said about the Snake: "Why would this woman want to deceive you? To discern this little detail, we could look at what the Snake is facing." This is mentioned in the section on how to build combinations, under the heading "by direction". I think for the Mountain it is also mentioned that some decks illustrate one with a peak, so the side which you would use to climb up to that peak would be more difficult than the other one, in my opinion. I am not sure yet. It would kind of make sense though, as the deck I use (Dondorf) shows the rising side on the left and the falling side on the right. If the mountain shows up in front of/after another card, it would be a more difficult obstacle than to the card that comes after it. It blocks whatever comes before.

Cooper & Fry - British crime series with tarot in the plot!
Raggydoll posted a topic in Tarot in MediaI just finished watching the first season of the British crime series called Cooper & Fry. It is based on the books by Stephen Booth. Many of the episodes contains British folk lore, and there is also a character (the mother of police officer Ben Cooper) who does multiple tarot readings which tie into the cases that the polices are investigating. I really enjoyed this series and I feel like the episodes kept getting better and better. In the beginning I was a bit unsure about the interpretations that was given about some of the cards, but as time went on, I could see that they had put effort into understanding tarot and doing something clever with it. I also found that the readings gave clues about how it was all going to end. If anyone else has seen it, it would be fun to hear what you thought! -

How to shuffle for reversals if you can’t riffle
DanielJUK replied to Rayne's topic in Tarot Talk & TechniqueI overhand shuffle and what I do, is just to turn a pile of cards for my reversals and shuffle them in. Just take a random number of cards and reverse them. I've seen some people make piles, like you make 4 piles of cards and then turn whichever piles call to you. You can make as many piles as you want. Also I've noticed on here that people turn some cards, and at the end of the reading put them all back upright. They seem to want a small amount, like maybe 10% of the deck. Personally I have some decks I use reversals (mostly RWS) and some I don't and I keep the reversals in. So I turn a pile or two whilst overhand shuffling and I never know how many are upright or not, this is the random shuffled order of the cards for the reading for me. It's not as hard as it seems, try out different ways and find what works for you. There are no rights or wrongs here -

How to shuffle for reversals if you can’t riffle
Rayne posted a topic in Tarot Talk & TechniqueHi everyone! I want to start reading reversals, but I feel I can’t randomize the orientation of the cards very well. I can’t really riffle very well, and I haven’t figured out a method to randomize the orientation of the cards without riffling. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

More Kickstarter decks for your thoughts
DanielJUK replied to FindYourSovereignty's topic in Tarot DecksJoseph Stretch's Stretch Tarot is ten years old! I cannot believe it. It came out in 2016, when he was 18, he started making it at 16 years old. During July, he has as Kickstarter for a new tenth anniversary edition. This is a remastered version with changes and sometimes new artwork.... 80 cards, standard 78 + alternative Magician and Wheel of Fortune Restored original artwork (all by hand or digitally with no use of AI for the entire project) Remade cards due to damages or artistic vision (The Star, Ace of Pentacles, II of Pentacles, VIII of Pentacles, X of Wands) Larger card size to showcase greater detail (89mm x 146mm) Corrected bleed and printing format to capture lost edges and borders Reformatted card titles for improved clarity and consistency A high-quality, two-part box design https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/jestretch/the-stretch-tarot-remastered Ends on the 31st July, already fully funded and working towards stretch goals (there could be 90 cards in the deck). I am thinking about it at the moment. I own the original stretch tarot and some other stretch decks and love his collages. They are also so inclusive of all people. Can I justify another one? I will probably be pledging to it by the end of July 😂 -

Is The Empress Garden Your Backyard? (Time to Pull Some Mental Weeds)
Tanga commented on Cariabella's blog entry in Tarot for self-development and shadow work🙃 You can "replant" by designing a sigil alla Austin Osman Spare, representing your goal. This is a Chaos Magician technique - they believe everything is down to you reprogramming your subconscious belief. (Creating a Sigil alla Spare method: write down your goal in one short affirmation. remove all the consonants from the affirmation. remove all the double vowels that remain. With the remaining vowels - use your creative imagination to draw a sigil using the shapes of those vowels. When you have arrived at a beautiful and interesting shape - this is your magickal Sigil. You can now put it under your pillow. Carry it in your pockets. Do a ritual with it.... etc. You don't have to remember over time what the Sigil represents. The shape will subconsciously wind it's way in and reprogram your core belief system). If your goal - can be represented by a single Tarot card. You can decide to use that card instead (of designing a sigil from an affirmation). I would work on making some-sort of Sigil or re-inspired emblem/simpler image of the card - so that you spend some conscious active creative time "working the idea into your subconscious mind". -

Is The Empress Garden Your Backyard? (Time to Pull Some Mental Weeds)
Cariabella posted a blog entry in Tarot for self-development and shadow workWhat does your subconscious look like right now? If it’s healthy and thriving, it probably looks exactly like The Empress—lush, vibrant, and effortlessly creative. That beautiful backyard is the ultimate mental goal. But if you haven’t checked on it lately, it might look like a chaotic jungle of overgrown weeds and old anxieties. That is where creative imagination comes in. It’s the process of grabbing a shovel, digging out the weeds, and reclaiming your yard. By bridging the gap between psychologist Carl Jung and Tarot master Paul Foster Case, you get the ultimate gardening manual for your soul. Carl Jung: The Weed Puller (Bottom-Up) Jung believed imagination was the raw language of our deepest mind—the collective unconscious. • The Method: Active Imagination. You stop overthinking, let your mind "play," and invite your inner Shadow out to talk without judging it. • The Goal: Finding the weeds. By facing the messy parts of your psyche, you yank them up by the roots so your inner soil can breathe. Paul Foster Case: The Landscape Architect (Top-Down) Once Jung helps you clear the dead weight, Case shows up with a blueprint to redesign the place. He mapped out how to reprogram the subconscious mind using three Tarot keys: • The Magician (Conscious Mind): Your focused intent. He holds the shiny new seed you want to grow. • The High Priestess (Subconscious Mind): The deep, mysterious memory-well. She is the rich, raw soil. • The Empress (Creative Imagination): The cosmic womb. She takes all your old experiences, mashes them together, and grows them into a beautiful new reality. The Ultimate Gardening Hack: The Two-Step Loop Jung teaches us how to clear the yard; Case teaches us what to plant. They are a two-man backyard renovation crew! Next time you sit down with your deck, try this: • The Jung Step (Weed Control): When you are faced with a situation that stirs your emotions and you feel you don’t like it, it's time to go deep inside and ask: "Why did I get this reaction?" You are finding and pulling the weeds. • The Case Step (Replanting): Once the soil is clear, decide what you want to create. Meditate on it and hold a crystal-clear vision of your goal. Plant that seed deep into your subconscious, and let it grow. "The rich fertility, calm peace, and ability to order your life aright... are your inalienable possessions." — Paul Foster Case -

Mi-Shell replied to fire cat pickles's topic in Deck of the WeekMy card for early morning Wednesday was the Armadillo. It reminded me, that some times, some days it is good to have a thick, virtually impenetrable skin. It cam in handy, when we got ranted on by Market board members who gave us extra and unwanted "volunteer duties" Armadillo will meet Coyote pubs with little sharp teeth undeterred and unharmed and just walk on. For the curious readers, here is what's on the back: Today I drew the Moose. It is still too early to say, how the day will proceed, but Hotha the Moose stands for gentleness and strengths in a human being and the card became very poignant, when I looked up from my card table and saw one of our young bull Moose outside in the creek. ♥ -

Deck of the Week Sign-up Thread, Week 470: Jul. 6 - Jul. 12
BrightEye replied to fire cat pickles's topic in Deck of the WeekTarot works in interesting ways. This morning I was doing research on a new project, broadly to do with literary depictions of inundation and rising sea levels. I was shuffling my deck and drew the World and then the Page of Pentacles. This page is a researcher. The texts for World in this deck comes with all sorts of water and ocean imagery: life as an ocean of contrasts, seeing the seven seas in a glass of water etc. and the focal point of the image is a body of water. So the deck was clearly picking up on my morning activity. But what I find particularly fascinating is that the text in the book also uses water and ocean metaphors. As a literary scholar, this really tickles me! -
