Justice in Romantic Interest Readings. Your thoughts? Nuances?
TekkieTarot replied to Misterei's topic in Individual Card MeaningsJustice represents being unbiased and logical to me. This card is great for career or school but in love I would want a lover interest to be bias and give me the benefit of the doubt instead of looking at things black and white/right or wrong. Justice also represents pettiness and getting even like it took you 2 hours to reply to my text so I’m gonna take 4 hours to reply to yours. So the justice card could be warning that this person is petty and will do to you what you do to them. Today

Negative cards as advice
Marina replied to zurgles's topic in Tarot Talk & TechniqueI tend to read a negative card in advice position as the best possible manifestation of the card in question. So in the case of, say, Seven of Sword, you may actually need to be a bit sly and careful, maybe even avoid full honesty about something. For a particularly bad card, like the 10 of Swords, I might interpret it as fully accepting that something has ended and dealing with the loss, while trusting a new day will rise… and so on. I say “best manifestation” not in a moralistic way, but in a “silver lining” sort of way. This card sucks, yeah, but if I could find something useful about it, what would it be? That tends to be my advice. -

Negative cards as advice
Chariot replied to zurgles's topic in Tarot Talk & TechniqueGood question, @zurgles ! As I always include an Advice card in my readings, this issue comes up a lot. I read a negative Advice card —it can be a reversed card if it was a positive card upright, or simply a negative card itself—as 'don't do that.' You may be inclined to 'do that' —but don't! It will be warning you that certain behaviours or attitudes will be a mistake. I think the trick is to remain calm, and realise this card is giving you advice as to how best to behave, or what attitude to take. It's not forecasting what will/won't happen in terms of the occurrence itself! For example, if The Tower upright appears as your Advice card—especially if the overall reading is somewhat negative— it's hard not to think 'OMG terrible things are happening! Be prepared!!!' The 'advice' from the tarot will be—instead—don't behave as if a catastrophe has occurred—because that kind of behaviour will not be helpful at this time. If the Advice card is The Tower, reversed, I'd probably read it as 'no need to worry; this is not a catastrophe.' The first is advising you about your behaviour or attitude. It's warning you against catastrophising a situation, which can only make things worse. The second is advising you not to worry, because the issue isn't as bad as you think it is. (If the situation IS a sudden catastrophe, there are other Advice cards that will appear, telling you what your best course of action or attitude should be. The Tower will may well have appeared elsewhere in the reading.) And yes, I've had both the upright and reversed Tower turn up as Advice. I followed the advice, and it worked out fine. The Advice cards in my personal readings are usually the most important cards in that reading. They give me something to do, or something not to do. That always seems to work out. -

Negative cards as advice
Misterei replied to zurgles's topic in Tarot Talk & TechniqueYes, this vexes all of us, I think. Personally I find it context dependent. Frex 7 swords i read as unfinished karma [different than the standard] so I might take it as a bit of a warning that something I thought was finished ... isn't. The advice is that I might have to go back and re-do something. Devil as advice is particularly annoying. Ugh! But in one reading Devil was telling me that it WAS helpful and important to remain attached in the situation. I tend to let go of things and move on. Sometimes to my detriment. Devil advised me to dig in, hold my ground, and keep what was mine. In relationship context Devil might be a warning that old co-dependent patterns will rear their ugly head. Conversely, advising to explore sexual aspects of a relationship. If we take away the religious stuff with Devil ... we're left with a card that can reference sexuality and animal passions. We humans are very smart monkeys when you get right down to it. We have an animal nature. Tower as advice? The very opposite of Devil. LET GO. B/c anything you try to hold onto will just get ripped from your bleeding hands, anyhow. Or if it's a real estate question--you're going to need to do demolition to do the repairs. I think this touches upon the bias we want everything to be "nice" or easy. Including our advice! Life isn't like that. Sometimes we must do the difficult thing or make the hard call. Malefic advice cards often suggest that sort of scenario. -

Negative cards as advice
zurgles posted a topic in Tarot Talk & TechniqueHello So I’ve been wondering how to interpret negative cards in advice positions. Whether as something to lean into, as a warning, or something where you’ve gotta walk the line of the helpful aspects of the card and the harmful ones. For example, my advice card of the day today was the seven of swords. For the warning, I could see it as not to bs myself today, don’t procrastinate or run away from my problems, try to be straight with people and work together with others instead of trying to go it alone or be self interested. For the lean into it, I can see it as maybe think strategically, look out for your own interests and self / prioritize yourself and your needs, work smart and not hard, cut corners if you have to to get the job done today, etc. For walking the line, I guess it’d be a sort of combo of the above. Like work smart but don’t cut corners because it’ll come back to bite you later, work with others and be accommodating but look out for your needs as well and be wary of people tryna cheat or trample on you or of doing that to others. That sort of thing. What is your approach? Last week

More Kickstarter decks for your thoughts
zurgles replied to FindYourSovereignty's topic in Tarot DecksI’ll make sure to share the cards when they arrive. Yeah sorry for not sharing the kickstarter earlier, I only found out about it with like four hours to spare at work 😭 To be honest, I wasn’t 100% feeling the art and look either but we’ll see how I feel in real life. I kept trying to zoom in and get a better look but the time crunch made me make the decision. -

JoyousGirl replied to FindYourSovereignty's topic in Tarot DecksOoh, I wonder if the Ameglian cow will be on there "would you like to try my rump?" and which card - probably hanged man? I loved that series when I was a kid, but don't really like the look of the cards or the text. Hope you'll share some with us when it arrives. -

zurgles replied to FindYourSovereignty's topic in Tarot DecksI backed the hitchhikers guide to the galaxy tarot a few weeks ago. I don’t think I’ve backed a tarot deck before, just a set of playing cards. It’ll be a year before it’s fulfilled though. I read the series in high school and it was really impactful, and watched the movie. I decided to order the book set to read in the meanwhile, though it’ll be a while before I get to it since I’m juggling a bunch of projects. (Here’s the link to the page if anyone wants to follow it. I had backed it with a few hours left in the campaign. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/prodigal-ent/the-hitchhikers-guide-to-the-galaxy-tarot-cards ) -
If you could have one feature in a tarot app, what would it be?
DanielJUK replied to Sebastian's topic in Tarot Talk & TechniqueYou can only upload images in posts when you reach 5 posts, then you can 😃 @Sebastian do you want to change your profile pic? You can do that by going to your profile, under your name at the top of the page. On your profile, click that menu and "edit profile picture". It's fine to discuss what people want from a tarot app here, it's a fascinating discussion, but we do have a line where we don't allow self-promotion in general threads. If you want to promote your specific app and link it in future, you will have to subscribe for that and post in the promote yourself section. More details of our rules here -

Spirit Guides in Tarot & Beyond--Your Thoughts and Experiences?
DanielJUK replied to Misterei's topic in SpiritualityFor me, it helps to categorise this into different thing to happen to me.... Thoughts - we all have thoughts and worries all the time in our heads. This tends to be in my own voice and like thinking about what to put on the shopping list or maybe thinking over a tarot card in a reading and is there another angle or maybe thinking about TV I just watched. It's obviously from me. Guide Messages - I am new at this, like I said before but still really deeply exploring this area of my life. At the moment for me, they tend to come when I am calm and meditating. I don't seem to just get them like a thought in my head. I know people who are deeper connected, do get them all the time (more on this in a sec). I have been reading up on this area because of my new interest and what is key with guides is the tone. Like it should be supportive, calm, grounded and loving. They are on your side. I don't think they should tell you to do something, more like give some wise advice. Some people feel an energetic feel around this as well. Daydreams - I am such a Cups person that I daydream and dream a lot. Since going deeper with my spirituality, I am getting very vivid and intense ones. These are stories that I watch unfold and can be very complex. I think these are like a form of healing for me, they bug me a lot but when I work out their meaning that story goes away. So this is unlocking or solving something in my life. Divination Messages - I get some messages when divining and always have. Sometimes I see an image in my third eye, like in the front of my forehead, sometimes I hear whispers in my ear. I am not sure if I can put them in the guide messages category or not, they seem different. This happens during readings and randomly and aid my readings. -
Do you think the question matters more than the cards?
DanielJUK replied to Novareth's topic in Tarot Talk & TechniqueWe regularly see people here asking for help when they have asked a wrongly formed question or want a yes / no answer when they are asking for advice. The question and the spread are the foundation for the good reading to come. I mean context is everything, I have had some great readings with just want the universe wants to tell me, totally free-form but if I would like to know something, I need to formulate the question to get the best answer. A member posted for reading help a while ago and wanted to know if their job interview would go well? It was a yes / no formatted question but from the answer, they were trying to get advice on how to make the job interview go as well as possible for them. But that was not the answer to the question asked, if you want advice on something, you need to ask for that in the question. There are so many love readings and break up readings where people ask really generalised questions, will he come back to me? Will I meet my soul mate? I think it's not helpful ultimately without getting specific in a difficult situation. Will I hear from him in the next month? What do I need to know about any romance in the next 6 months? I also think we should try and keep the question optimistic or at least neutral. This foundation is like stage one of a good reading and stage two is the interpretation. -

Deck of the Week Sign-up Thread, Week 482: Sep. 28 - Oct. 4
Bodhiseed replied to fire cat pickles's topic in Deck of the WeekThank you for keeping us rolling, Fire cat! I'm in this week with the Buckland Romani Tarot paired with the Lakota Sweat Lodge Cards. I'd much rather 'know', but then again, not-knowing keeps all the possibilities open. ―Ruth Ozeki A contractor doing some work inside the house once asked me why I had a small collection of gemstone skulls. I told him that they reminded me of the principle of impermanence - good or bad, things only last for a limited time. The Wheel of Fortune indicates change is on the horizon; like the skulls, it is a symbol of constant transitions. Fire is both a consumer and creator. How does it create? Nutrient-rich ash that improves the soil. Fire opens some seeds so they can sprout It also opens the forest canopy, allowing more sunlight to reach the ground, allowing new plants to grow. We humans hate uncertainty, but we actually can't see far enough down the road to know all the possibilities that might come because of change. -

Favorite Tarot Apps
Emily replied to EmpyreanKnight's topic in Tarot in MediaI like Fool's Dog Apps, I have a few for decks I like - the Robin Wood, Pagan Cats, Liber T, Bohemian Gothic. The companion books are usually included too so you can use them for study and the journal feature is a nice touch. I only use them for myself, never for others. The other tarot app I use is Labyrinthos, but that is a kind of all-rounder, tarot, Runes, Lenormand - standard decks or you can buy other decks. I've never used the Galaxy tarot app. Might have to check that one out. I don't use tarot apps all the time but I do think they have their places, especially if you can't get your hands on a deck. -
Do you think the question matters more than the cards?
gregory replied to Novareth's topic in Tarot Talk & TechniqueJust a brief and deeply profound thought in this. If you don't get the question right you will not get the answer you need. So yes, the question is THE most important thing. You may get useful information, but if you ask the cards what will happen if you do X, and what you really want to know is WHETHER you should, the answer will be skewed, as the cards will assume you are going ahead. Also - woolly questions are what gives us the opportunity to cheat. I don't read for myself, as I know perfectly well that I will cheat. Don't get the answer I hoped for ? Yeah, but actualy this COULD refer to this other aspect of my life - yeah that fits in a way I find acceptable.... That said, one of the most significant YES moments I ever got was a side issue I saw in the card (remember, I use the images, not the learned meanings, so maybe this doesn't happen to others !) right at the end of the reading, nothing to do with the question (which I had answered to the sitter's satisfaction.) It was a sort of by the way thing, and it was a direct hit. -

List of tarot myths
Emily replied to Saturn Celeste's topic in Aeclectic Tarot Thread RevivalI was 15 when I got my first deck, which was the 1JJ Swiss, I had been reading playing cards and the ladies in the shop recommended the 1JJ Swiss because of that. I vaguely remember seeing the RWS and the Thoth but went with the deck they recommended, I also had the book to go with it by Stuart Kaplan. I never took to the deck but I do remember knowing about the black silk. My Nan actually gifted me a piece of black silk from her remnants box. That deck is still around, in storage at the moment, wrapped up in the black silk for all these years. Unfortunately, it didn't help me bond with the deck. Oh well.
