How do you shuffle your cards? Do you cut them by hands or fan them out or do something else? And why do you choose to shuffle your cards the way you do?

I was inspired to adress this topic after seeing a video by Avalon Cameron on her patreon page that discussed the concept of Sacred Balance. She spoke about the importance of figuring out exactly what you yourself are made of so that you can understand what imbalances you and how to correct it to be fully grounded. So not everyone will find that going barefoot or spending time in nature will make them grounded. There are many different sorts of imbalances - plus there are also some people that suffer from being too grounded. Being too grounded can manifest itself in ways where you carry excess weight, feel stuck and don't like to leave home. Perhaps you overindulge in foo…

Hi! I just wanted to share a picture of my new folder and journal for tarot study. I'll primarily be working with Benebell Wen's Holistic Tarot. I'm excited to get started on Monday when the book arrives, but for now I'm getting organised. I'm going to use the folder for my readings and general notes, and the journal for card interpretation (I'm considering setting it up for each card in advance with stick on images of the cards but it would be a LOT of work. (not pictured: new fountain pen and sapphire ink on its way) I would love to see how others organise their study!

I know that the Tarot is used primarily for divination, but it seems that some don't agree that it can be used to foretell the future, but to clarify the present spiritual or material state of the querent and his/her surroundings. Others use it more for therapeutic and spiritual purposes, thinking that they'd gain a deeper self-knowledge through the lessons that the cards provide. They would usually access the cards for some light or shadow work. Others prize the cards for the esoteric knowledge they can impart or as a simple tool in their exploration of such systems as the Qabalah. Its practitioners may perform pathworking through the cards to gain an intimate understand…

What does it mean when you get two court cards and a major in a reading to some off you guys out their.

I'm sorry, but I see this card not as "happy" card but as "I worked hard for get all of these cups, and I won't allow to go everyone inside". You can see that guy and his hands and happy face. He is happy with his stuff and he protect his cups.

Happy Friday the 13th and Happy Mid-Autumn Festival Just wanted to poise a question to more of the tarot collectors' side of the community. I noticed a lot of people in the tarot community have been stepping back from tarot due to burnout, loss of interest, and/or hitting some sort of tarot "funk" but I noticed it was happening to those more on the spiritual tarot readers spectrum of the community. Was wondering if those that consider themselves more as collectors have experienced such a slump in their collecting. If so and if you're willing, would love to hear about the experience. TIA :)

Hi everyone just a quick one how do you keep your cards? In a silk cloth, or wooden box or a material pouch, what’s best please?

I'd be interested to hear people's thoughts on this please, as a newbie trying to figure all this out! I am learning with the RWS. I really like the imagery and feel it's assisting with my learning. I have a few other Tarot decks which I bought predominantly for the imagery, but want to build my relationship with the RWS first and feel more comfortable with the card meanings before branching out. Out of curiosity though, I compared The Fool card from the RWS with the one from the Starchild Tarot (Akashic version), which is called 'Starseed' in that deck. Whilst the meanings from the Starchild LWB are similar as it's based on the RWS system, from ju…

Moonlight is a free web-based space to read tarot cards! You can also have a virtual room for up to 6 people where you can chat with video and audio. Years ago I had Orphalese, a desktop program, to read with virtual cards, but Moonlight has been a joy to discover. It comes preloaded with different decks, you can use a pen to draw on the workspace, use premade spreads or use your own spreads, etc... A lot of times the people I read for have 'when' related questions- When will they get married or when will they hear back from the job thingy? And I find it hard to deduce that. I know some people use the numbers in the cards or the astrology aspects to answer that. Does that work accurately in anyone's experience? Would love to hear if anyone has a technique of reading these.

If you care about calculating your birth and/or year card, do you place any specific significance on it if it shows up in a reading? This year (I go birthday to birthday with the year cards) is all about the Hanged Man for me and he showed up yesterday when I was having a not very good day. I'm thinking it could mean that I gotta look to my year card and the greater lessons that I'm learning and trust that it will work itself out if I hang in there (letting go and things sorting out without me being obsessive about it is something I struggle with but the Hanged Man is helping me see it's a good thing), but I'm really curious to what other people think. Hoping I'm…

Hello all, there's a few things I'm wondering about and hope you can shed some light on it. I apologize if these questions have been asked before, but decided to put these rather short questions into one post. First question: why (or in what instances) could/should a significator be used? I understand the concept of it, just wasn't sure when and how it should be used. Second question: what benefits are there to using an Oracle deck, especially in conjunction with a tarot deck? What are the pros and cons? Last question is more of a comment; what are some good tips and tricks for people learning to read the cards intuitively?

So like reading tarot cards while skydiving, right? Nah just kidding, I'm more talking about reading cards past their traditional meanings. It's taking what you that know of a card, and going beyond that to nearly the other side - so, almost like reading a reversal, but ... not really. You'll end up seeing the dark side of a "lighter" card, and the silver lining of a darker card, often, but not in the normal reversal sort of way. Let me go into it here, using the 10 of Cups as an example. That's pretty much as idealistic of a card as you can get! Mom & Dad, 2 children dancing, a little house on property with a stream... They've got it all! The perfect,…

Hello! I consider the Two of Cups and the Lovers to have very similar energies: romantic, partnerships, yin/yang duality. The Lovers has more of an element of choice to it, but otherwise they seem the same. Lately the Two of Cups and the Lovers have been haunting me. I draw them in a lot of spreads and they fall out at me when I'm shuffling. It doesn't matter what deck I use. It just keeps happening and has been going on for a few months now. I'm trying to figure out what they mean as I don't have a romantic interest and am not exactly open to the possibility at this time. They usually fall out together, so I wonder what it could mean. Any opinions in this cont…

This is an idea that I originally saw on Kelly-Ann Maddox's Youtube channel ( ). She has a basket where she places all the decks that she feels are a bit neglected and that she wants to work more with. I really liked the idea, but it wasn't exactly what I needed at the time. I have realized that I don't feel particularly guilty about the decks that gets less use, and that I want to rotate my decks in a more organic matter. I'm a Gemini and I rarely get stuck with one thing for long, so having to make sure that I rotate things is not an issue in my life. The thing that I DO need to work on, however, is to focus my energies and prevent myself from feeling scattered. I t…

My wife gets after me for spending too much time writing up my observations for online clients and not charging enough for it, and she's probably right but I wouldn't feel honest doing any less. If I'm doing a Celtic Cross, I usually have around a page of standard introductory text that I cut-and-paste with minor tweaks from reading-to-reading, a "big-picture" summary of the most compelling features of the spread, a one-paragraph-per-card narrative, and a closing summary of anything I find particularly noteworthy in the way of advice for the sitter. Then I add a digital photo of the spread. By the time I'm done, the write-up typically ranges from 3,500 to 4,500 words and …

Hi, all! I just got this deck a few days ago and in the middle of enjoying all the gorgeous illustrations, I've been highly amused by whatever is happening in this trio of cards! What's happening in this clandestine tryst? Are they being spied upon, or is our romantic hero being a faithless cad? Are these the same set of lovers who then show up in the 2 of cups later? They're getting along swimmingly! But where's our disgruntled brunette gone off to? Oh, ho! Is she cavorting with another fun couple? >:D Or is this the original trio from The Lovers, now all reconciled and enjoying one another's company? Or are these all completely different …

Hi everyone! Besides being a tarot enthusiast, I am also a board game geek and wanted to share a cute little discovery of mine... I came across this simple game called "Shahrazad", which is supposed to be about fairy tales from around the world. But the names of the 22 tiles (visible through the link below) more than rings a bell for you and me ;) https://boardgamegeek.com/image/3855430/shahrazad I thought that if there are other tarotistas who like board games around, they might be interested! It's a very simple game where you have to lay the tiles one after the other in a certain way so as to score as many points as possible. It's also one of those little gam…

I think this is the right place for this discussion - Mods please feel free to move it if you need So I just recently came across the idea of a 'depth year' - thank you Raggydoll - and it chimes with me as we have been downsizing and enjoying our remaining possessions more for a couple of years already - since we moved house. Nothing hidden away in the loft for example (apart from tree decorations for Yule) - if we don't look at it and love it, why have it? Even the idea of restricting my buying of decks - I've bought less than a dozen this year, and they were nearly all second hand decks which I felt I missed first time round. But I do have a lot of d…

This hasn't happened to me...yet. But has anyone ever done a reading and the querent got really mad? Like a relationship reading they were in denial about? I have had the same querent ask me, more than once, about the same relationship, but never had anyone go off about how that just can't be true, but know it has happened to others. ANYONE? If so, was it about love, family, career?
