Lenormand

I know this isn't really a thing. Mostly its just GT, smaller Tableaux, or Lines. But I've become curious about trying spreads with LN ... at least historic ones. @akiva you had sent me an historic spread called Grand Star in my PMs. You also mentioned Grand Cross as a LN spread ... are these 2 different spreads? If yes, how do you do Grand Cross? I saw a Youtuber do a LN Grand Cross but I trust your methods more than hers 😉

this has to be easier than I'm thinking it. Houses = grand tableau laid out in card order, House 1 is rider, House 36 is Cross. Yes? So if I do a 3 card spread and take houses into account, are the houses always Rider/Clover/Ship? Regardless of how many 3 card spreads I do, with however many different questions? I love the idea of houses creating deeper readings, but coming from tarot maybe that is unnecessary filler? Or absolutely pointless unless a grand layout?

Say you want to know if love with someone is possible and you get the cards: Clover - Bouquet - Anchor Clover-Bouquet suggests it's a short-lived, flirty, non-serious romance, but... Bouquet-anchor suggests it's a long term, serious romance. How do you then make a decision? Would it be gut instinct for you? Is there a story I am not seeing? I have come across similar results before and i've never known how to interpret them.

Hi, I'm mostly an astrologer who is new to reading Lenormand. When I watched Lenormand readers on YouTube, I noticed some parallels with the form of astrology I read most often, horary. Horary astrology is very practical and is used for concrete predictions. Lenormand is used in similar situations, but I find it to be chattier, offering more detail. Based on the idea that the Tower does not mean bureaucracy, which card (or combination of them) would mean that? The Tower is said to mean buildings of high importance, including courthouses and government buildings. How to express bureaucracy, officialdom and even hierarchy, using the Tower? Similarly, how to represent the establishment, and all sorts of hierarchical systems, the “order” of things? Is there a need for another card to convey these ideas? If so, which ones? And, because I'm talking about the Tower: can it signify aloofness? What about chain-stores?

Hello, I hope I'm asking this in the right section of the forum, I have a quick question about a lenormand deck. I recently purchased a mini Daveluy Lenormand from thegameofhope shop. I tested out roughly the size of the mini with a ruler before deciding and went with a mini. Since that deck has both verses and card inserts, I'm wondering now if maybe the mini will be too mini. I've been poking around on the web for size example of a mini traditional deck with card inserts but have not found any. Pondering about how many times some cards in Lenormand mean, so far that's what I observed: The Coffin = zero. The Tower = once, as it means one. The Whip = twice, to punish or remedy. The Birds = double. The Roads = at least two, as it means options. The Stars = multiple times, as it infers multitude. The Fish = many, like the Stars. Am I missing any? In your experience (it doesn't matter if you're a newbie or not, I want to know from what you've read so far) what have you observed?

Hi all, I'm hoping for some clarification on hypotheticals. Does Lenormand play well with these types of questions or is that best left to something like Tarot or a different oracle system? For example, the type of question that often comes up when I read for others is "How would X feel if..." "How would X feel if I made this statement" "How would X feel if we met in person" ...etc Is there a better way to phrase questions like this or just better to avoid them all together?

Lenormand is a language. That's for sure. But I was wondering if we could translate certain phrases into the cards. At the end of the introduction of her book, Caitlín Matthews writes: "in translating my good wishes for your progress into Lenormand cards, may I wish you Clover + Sun + Anchor". That's what normally we are required to do: translate the messages from the cards. What about, as an interpretative exercise, do the reverse? For example, as a start: the dating app Tinder would be the Roads + the Heart + the Scythe (options + love + swift decision). What can you come up with?

Most LN cards have a timing aspect. Obviously, if my spread is specifically asking for a time frame ... I would go straight to that meaning of the card. BUT ... what if it's less clear? Frex in Tarot if I see an Ace I often take it as a timing message even thought the question didn't specifically relate to timing ... but with 45 years experience ... I have a good intuition about when to do this. How do YOU use LN as timing cards? @timtoldrum suggested a thread for this, and I agree that it's vital. As for the Birch Rods, I always guessed that the association with stationery was due to the tail of the whip looking like the flourish on a signature, but I could be very, very wrong! Looking forward to this thread. 🙂

I know we all have our preference in decks. To me, what one likes, resonates is, is all that matters. SO, here are my make it or break it for a Lenormand: NAMES - if you call the Scythe, SCISSORS, I'm not there. Renaming, totally reimagining a traditional Lenormand card is a deal breaker for me. Yes, I can get USED to it, but I want to look at card, out of the box, and go DOG, CLOVER, etc. IMAGES - Again, if you have Scissors for Scythe, um no. If you have a Bird swooping in on a Mouse, no. The common wisdom I've read here is that the only *traditional* method of Lenormand is the GT and Method of Distance described by the original Philippe Lenormand instructions. I've been told that reading houses is a newer method which came in vogue recently. Yet the original Game of Hope [1799] laid a 6x6 tableau of the cards as houses. As a game, players rolled dice and moved a token around the tableau. Is it possible that fortune tellers might have started reading houses as per the Game of Hope tableau? Reading houses is documented in 1875 L'oracle Parfait [picture below]; but it has different houses than the Game of Hope and it's laid 9x4. …
