ironwing Posted April 26, 2021 Posted April 26, 2021 “The object world bowed and slept and grew enormous as something completely without space, as a container without volume, lightless, soundless, and did this inside a world even larger and more obscure than itself, a world we were walking through, which no one knew what to call (other than “old”) and no one understood the dimensions of but what was ours, this grid that had been touched by a circle, these noisy, impenetrable doors. We had been walking for hours, looking for a happening, a boundary event that would put an end to the crisis, not an extraordinary occurrence—some magical intervention—but a small act out of a cabinet of everyday acts that we’d witnessed numerous times and never noticed and never saw the way through.” This excerpt from Renee Gladman’s Ana Patova Crosses a Bridge helped bring me back to tarot last year. My life took a turn in 2017, and tarot was one of the tools that I shelved during that journey. It was a fulfilling journey, but I had to give up things and pursuits, as one does. For three years, I was busy, working toward multiple goals, writing more than ever, but never for myself. I was productive but not necessarily creative—or creating. The pandemic happened, alongside many other crises, and I was forced to change how I interacted with the world. I began to commit to reading books again, instead of merely picking up one, or two, or three, and forgetting that I had. I just wanted to quiet my mind. Certain turns of phrase have always had a way of moving me, and when I read Gladman, I realized that like many others whose lives had become a series of noisy, impenetrable doors, I wanted to unlatch just one if it meant finding safe and silent spaces to meander in, rooms of release and escape. My country has been in quarantine for over a year now. I found going outside confusing, and ironically, quite isolating, and I found more comfort at home, surrounded by my books and everything else I had collected over the decades. I started writing for me again. The first deck I took out since 2017 was the Greenwood. It felt familiar and full of possibilities. With it, I simply picked tarot up where I left off, right in the middle of an ever-evolving, ever-expanding story. So. Hello, everyone. I guess the story continues here.
DanielJUK Posted April 26, 2021 Posted April 26, 2021 Glad you found us here @ironwing welcome to the forum! I am glad in these times you found comfort in your books and getting your decks out again. I put all my decks away for ten years in my 20's. I just didn't need them then and then returned to them in my 30s. I'm glad the books got you back to tarot 😀
Luna Posted April 26, 2021 Posted April 26, 2021 Welcome, Ironwing! Yes, the covid quarantines allowed many of us for some real life changes--and for a lot of self discoveries, learning what we truly need to feel complete again. The hustle and bustle of what was a 'normal' life took a toll we never really noticed until it no longer was there. Now, we have found out and I hope we can continue to keep doing--what is truly important and needed in our lives for a fulfilling sense of well being. I took some time out to learn a craft I have always wanted to learn but seemed to be all elbows at--until I could truly sit down and find how to make it work for me. Now I wouldn't exactly say I am consumed by it, but I am enjoying it. I have not given up tarot or divining completely--but its not as much of a main focus for me right now as it had been. Other things are also becoming a part of my every day life. I'm enjoying the solitude of it all too. Anyway, welcome to Tarot, Tea and Me forum and I hope you find it a comfortable place to learn and share with us all!
HOLMES Posted April 26, 2021 Posted April 26, 2021 Welcome, I was doing recent activity and it said ironwing has changed profile picture last night. So i clicked on profile and couldn't make heads or tails out of it. Soo what about it ?hehe
ironwing Posted April 27, 2021 Author Posted April 27, 2021 Hi, @DanielJUK, @Luna, @joy and @HOLMES! Thank you for the very warm welcome. I'm on GMT+8, so I reckon I'll be replying when people are asleep, unless there are more users from Southeast Asia on here. I realize that it has been years since my Aeclectic days—I had a different name back then, but didn't get to engage with others very often because work was all-consuming. Most of my passions in life have been very introspective in nature. They've definitely been my saving grace during this pandemic. Solitude was forced on everyone to some degree, and we've all had to cope the best we could. I hope you're all doing well and staying safe in your corners of the world.

A lot of people seem to have found joy and calm in the physical aspects of the everyday. Good pentacle energy! I tried my hand at calligraphy again this year. I've always been into handwriting, but never found enough quiet to do so. Well, no excuse now. Edited April 27, 2021 by ironwing

It's one of the looks that the late Alexander McQueen created for his fall collection in 2006. There was something about it that was so striking to me. I told my friends once that if I ever agreed to don a wedding dress, this would be my inspiration, antlers and all. They've known me long enough to think I'm 50 percent serious. 😄
Jesus_ Posted April 27, 2021 Posted April 27, 2021 Welcome! Does anyone have any good tarot card websites to try?

I had a 'calligraphy' business too--doing wedding invitations and books, etc. mostly. But then a baby changed all that for years and never got back into it. lol. Its a fun craft too though! Hope you can find it so as well. Good luck.

Luna Posted May 28, 2021 Posted May 28, 2021 Hello Alitalia! Yes, it is me. I don't get on here every day. All is well with us here, how are you and yours? Good to see you here! I am trying to get back here more often, but still find that I get busy with other things.
