Tarot of the Secret Forest for me this week.  I've owned it for ages, hardly touched.

I’ll be using the Kirchner Besançon deck this week! 🙂

I'm in with the Goetia Tarot of Darkness this week.   How dark is it, I wonder.      Is there a theme for me lately?   Not really. 🙂

guess I'm too late to edit the above post, I've been busy listing my culled decks on ebay this week

https://www.ebay.com/sch/kalamaquilts/m.html?

Last year I put them all in a box and shipped them to a friend in Canada, I guess I have more energy this year 🙂

Most of these I'm letting go because I can't see them well enough to appreciate them any more.

Hi all! ♥

More of the Mirror truth for me!

Posted (edited)

@VGimlet -- we have an error in the listing it seems. @vulprix is not also doing Tarot of the Secret Forest.

On the note of my deck for the week, my thoughts thus far:

I feel this sleeper of a deck has been neglected for too long, as it is quite lovely in places. I prefer the more tangible, graspable images -- such as the Hanged Man shown. They are lush, complex like a garden or glade, yet also simply in their pure nature structure.  There are no machines, constructs, objects or humans in this deck to my recollection.

I enjoy the image of the animals glazing at the stars. So cute and soothing.

unfortunately, they are also duplicate image on the opposite back-side, in black and white. This feels like a gimmick from Lo Scarebo, as it serves no purpose to enhance the reading experience on bit.  The color side of the Tarot of the Secret Forest are awesome. I've kind of been missing out, for the most part.

But I dislike the back. A lot.

Take a look for yourself, what do you think? Can you "de-enable" my hate of the B&W images instead of a standard backing?

Thank you, Wyrdkiss and @Bodhiseed. I do not have the Tarot of the Secret Forest. 🙂  And I can’t say I would be able to foster any love for those backs myself, unfortunately 🙈  But one could develop their own unique reading system with that setup, for sure!

I do have and really love that artist’s other Lo Scarabeo deck though, the Fairy Lights Tarot! I just had to trim it totally naked to actually use it:

Oh damn, that is nice! Probably going on my wish list. Is the book good?

I actually chucked the LWB 😅 Lol!  Sorry that I am not the best person to ask about this... I really read it more like an oracle, now. 🙂

I tried using it for the longest time as a tarot, and it kind of worked.  But I wanted to connect with it more so I took a deep plunge.  Now it lives on my nightstand and I read with it (or just gaze at it) before going to sleep, or writing a short story.  It is a very nice deck!

That sounds like a perfect wind-down @vulprix.

Does anyone know what kind of sticky paper (one sided, with color on the other) I could use to give the tarot of the Secret Forest an opaque backing? I would apply the paper then trim.

Posted

@Wyrdkiss, I have a weak suggestion!  I seem to remember the fronts and back are different on some of the cards.  (Rehomed by copy years ago . . .)  Maybe you could learn to like the backs by studying how the fronts and back are different (besides color) and why?

@vulprix, I love a good to the bone card trimming.  It really looks lovely that way!

This week I’ll be using Llewellyn deck, Cirque du Tarot, author is Leeza Robertson, artist is Josh Tufts.  I’m definitely not a circus person, for example, I love Duck Soup decks but was never tempted by Doug’s flagship deck, Tarot of the Zirkus Magi.

I’m interested in this deck for its art.  When I ordered it, I was going through a watercolor phase.  (And it was a Llewellyn tarot sale!)

Saturday1.thumb.jpg.ea0bee89df460d731f204ab6e3c2ae56.jpg

I haven’t read the book cover to cover, but it looks like the focus of the deck isn’t so much circus per se but more (larger than life, fantastical) performance and backstage.  For example, the pages are putting on their makeup, knights are putting on their costumes, queens are getting into character, and kings are stepping onto the stage.

And for future reference, swords are “a land of dreams and nightmares”; wands are “it’s all fire and smoke”; cups are “dive deep and play”; and pentacles are “reality revealed.”

After a flip-through, I think the deck will be challenging me, which is a good thing!  We’ll see how long it takes for me to really click with it!  Time for wash, shuffle, and interview!  (I changed the layout of the interview spread to be more photo-friendly.)

Saturday2.thumb.jpg.bbb4d9e48eeac848b536b006031fb233.jpg

Most important characteristic:  XX. Judgement

The deck is truly different and is headed somewhere I haven’t been before.  She is gesturing to the stars, but it’s not the real sky, it’s a curtain.  Accompanied by the Fool and his rabbit in the background.  May this means it IS all show and not spiritually meaty?

Strength:  XIV. Temperance

Another typically “angel” card.  I’m not seeing this card as a strength because I don’t see much meaning in it.  Why is Temperance blindfolded?  Going to the book . . .  Silence, healing, and holding opposing elements at the same time.  Ok.  The deck will be healing but not prescriptive.  It lets the reader hold differing opinions at the same time.

Weakness:  Ten of Wands

The deck can burn out a reader.  It demands too much energy and can overburden me when I’m trying to find out about something practical (the stage crew gathering up the spend wands).

What can I learn?  XI. Justice

It looks like the Fool is chucking an extra coin on one side of the balance which will unbalance the whole thing.  So, while I’d like to learn that Justice is real and unchanging, I’m going to learn that it’s a continuum and is going back and forth to attempt equilibrium instead.

How do I learn it?  Two of Cups

With compassion and cooperation.  The pearl act needs both the air being/angel and the water being to work.  Although things aren’t as just as I would like, I should make my concerns known without harshness or attacks.  You catch more flies with honey than vinegar.

Outcome of our work together:  Queen of Cups

I’ll eventually get the feel of the deck and relate to it well.  Or will use it for relationship readings!

Well, I’m not there yet, but we’ll see how it goes this week!  Have a happy week ahead, everyone!

Hi @Wyrdkiss! ♥

I also do have the Secret Forest.

To the b/w backs of the cards I can tell you, that I do see/ envision them as the Forest at Night, when there is just a faint glimmer of a rising Moon eliminating the Trees and Spirits and at times one has to guess, if the seen is a Forest Being or just the shadow of a Tree.....

To that I have to say, that I do live on a 106 ha homestead quite a bit away from any town and other light pollution  and I do often go for a walk in the Moon light, especially now, in the middle of Winter, when all is black and brilliant white 🙂

This week I'll be using the Anima Mundi Tarot, created and self-published by Megan Wyreweden. Paired with it will be the Nature's Pharmacy deck, created by New York Botanical Garden and published by Chronicle Books. Today's draws are the Two of Swords and Garlic:

AVvXsEhC2WvjNUVM8-tEvaI1lQzstXUcMjq7vXoDH1H7M1OBYQAVjinsJXf5APEG4_plvPSt8UtrAMqME883FzsLofhGBAGfhk_GSbQUKcfbBIOOMrZxiew4JqNKGdj1fL17TvgZEgE0JPMs-JasuNKBkUpBgav8b-FGz4nNbQ_Asd2f3qACe5L-hdvYQqW_=s320AVvXsEgTdd0vrcWHp1xRqIa_bWZ8s4tIfBhczzZhfrV1EnjYRBnv2KyGpy9LXzwniY-CUq_1U-C_VHQSWBuOtC4jm--y9EDnZ3d0-EaY2qx9EaFD0rDynR9rcHD0ZznPb3yybYZOf4_47bH9pIhsGxM4uBz1fpdYmA7mhuIiF1IE2pxHOVlSF0ZX_BF9M0zu=s320

Swords pointed upward symbolize a readiness for battle (think of fencers about to duel), but crossed swords imply a fight has commenced because of cross purposes. For the Two of Swords, this battle is one waged within our mind between two opposing choices. Pressure from others to lean one way or another can cloud the matter further. Garlic's hot taste and strong smell are the result of phytochemicals evident when it is chopped, crushed or chewed. Its sulfur compounds are believed to have evolved as a defensive mechanism, deterring animals from eating the plant. When metabolized, the compounds form allyl methyl sulfide which cannot be digested and must be excreted through the lungs and skin. Garlic's deterrent properties recommend that we distance ourselves from others who may manipulate or persuade us to follow their wishes. It might be helpful to remember the words of Thomas Sowell:

It is hard to imagine a more stupid or more dangerous way of making decisions than by putting those decisions in the hands of people who pay no price for being wrong.

I'll consider it @Rachelcat, thank you. I'm still pondering the option of giving it a solid opaque backing if I can figure out what paper to use / order.

Your deck interview was so well done. I love how you skillfully dove into the response from each card.  The deck looks amazing and I appreciate the clear pictures and detailed assessment.  I'm stealing this interview spread template too!

That's a beautiful image and thought @Mi-Shell.  Perhaps I'll try doing more readings just with the B&W side, or for shadow work, or on certain phases of the moon Where you live sounds so lovely!

This deck is so beautiful. Is it the one where you can pair up the cards to make a bigger scene?

See this video; at first I was  not certain if she is pairing up one deck (The Fairy Lights) or two different ones. How do you know which cards are meant to pair up? When she does so in the video it is absolutely gorgeous, but I hope the booklet states what the pairs are?:

@Wyrdkiss Interview with a Tarot Deck.pdfHere's the spread in a pdf.  Not sure why there are two copies on the page . . . ?  I'm sure I "borrowed" it from someone on Aeclectic at some point, but I've kind of made it my own and use it all the time!  (Since I get new decks all the time!)  Enjoy!

Yeaaaah, the LWB definitely does NOT give the information about pairs of cards. But the deck does indeed have 39 split images, each making up 2 cards. Imo, it was a half-handed gimmick that didn’t really work well with the tarot system itself, but it is really cool and beautiful and could potentially add depth to readings 🙂

I have never had a pair organically show up in a reading, but over the course of a day I did pair them all up once! The pairs really don’t make sense in context at all (like, let’s say The Empress’s other half would be the 5 of Swords), but it is still a fun feature. I just don’t see a way to practically use it within the tarot system.

Thanks for the heads  up about my error and sorry vulprix, copy and past is not always my friend.   Finally up to date with everything.   Been a distracted and busy work week, and I had NO energy to do anything after work the last few days.   But we should be all good.
