VGimlet Posted March 4, 2022 Author Posted March 4, 2022 I'm switching over to the Mystic Martian Oracle on Saturday, a strange deck that I connected with the classic "Mars Attacks" movie for some reason - and there is probably no connection except in my own mind, hah.
sweeneyish Posted March 4, 2022 Posted March 4, 2022 Count me in - Going dark with the Deviant Moon Tarot this week. I’d love to see these mystical martians, @VGimlet! My Deviant spread this morning:
Wyrdkiss Posted March 4, 2022 Posted March 4, 2022 Good day everyone, I'm am definitely covering the Darkness of Light Tarot this week. Really excited to share it with you, my favorite Rider-Waite-Smith alternative. @sweeneyish I have a special place in my heart for the deviant -- my son bought me that deck in New Orleans. Have you ever seen the companion book, the hardcover large one? It is, hands down, the best companion book for a tarot deck I've every experienced. If someone were really attracted to the Deviant and studied the hardcover, they could read exclusively with the pack the rest of their lives. It dives deep, and is so beautiful. There's even sketches form his childhood in there, along with loads of additional artwork.

That is so cool @VGimlet lol. I am eager to see more of the deck. Such a great film.
Madame Squee Posted March 4, 2022 Posted March 4, 2022 (edited) Thank you for the thread, VG! 🍀 I’m in with the Universal Fantasy Tarot this week. It’s an old favorite that I originally bought years ago, because I couldn’t take my eyes off the Page of Cups. Fabulous! So, I happened to be poking around on Amazon day before yesterday and suddenly realized that Llewellyn (or Lo Scarabeo, I’m not sure how it works) removed the white border from the Universal Fantasy cards. Wow!!!! In my mind: no border = larger image, which means larger cards to accommodate all of that fabulous art. So, I’m imagining something like the size of the LE Murder of Crows. Well, as it turns out, I have quite an imagination. The new cards are actually shorter, and the images are cropped. LOOK HOW THEY MASSACRED MY BOI Edited March 4, 2022 by Madame Squee
Amberjune Posted March 4, 2022 Posted March 4, 2022 My decks for the week are the Tarot of Tango and the Forces Flora and Fauna Oracle. Much love to all.
sweeneyish Posted March 4, 2022 Posted March 4, 2022 @WyrdkissI bought the book at the same time I bought the deck - it is truly wonderful. This is my first time reading with the deck, so I feel like I'm diving into a new world. So far, I'm totally hooked. Hooked on all of his work, really! Such an incredibly imagination. Oh no @Madame Squee, they cut off poor fishy's nose! I do love the art, though.
Madame Squee Posted March 4, 2022 Posted March 4, 2022 (edited) @sweeneyish and @Wyrdkiss Thank you for your recommendations and comments on The Deviant Moon companion book. It's going on my list! @sweeneyish Who would look at the original image and decide to lop off the fish's nose?! Preposterous! But I'm trying to get past it, because I do like the expanded images. Makes it easier to pick out the details. Edited March 4, 2022 by Madame Squee

I've never seen this one before. Love the art and your "Mars Attacks" connection. It's intriguing for sure.
Wyrdkiss Posted March 5, 2022 Posted March 5, 2022 (edited) Seriously @Madame Squee what kind of day was the editor having to glance at that image for approval and just say, "Sure whatever." I'm glad you are finding some enjoyment out of the larger images, however. and @sweeneyish I MUST get the deviant moon borderless. Those images just pop! Edited March 5, 2022 by Wyrdkiss
KaiNO Posted March 5, 2022 Posted March 5, 2022 Last week I ended up being much more busy than I could imagine in advance 😞 I'll try again here this week, still with my Tarot of the Spirit deck. Here's a reading I did for myself, just to show you a picture 😄: Deck: Tarot of the Spirit Surely not revolutionary to a more advanced tarot reader, but some thoughts that I find interesting and have become more aware of after what I've had time to read from the author of my deck, are: - The first card drawn is the significator, which identifies the key issue and is the major focal point of your answer. Additional cards refer back to the significator. - Reversed cards are blockings - draw a new card to find what is blocking. - Don't end a reading on a bad note - draw another card to find how to avoid the problem. And, really nice to see and hear about The Darkness of Light Tarot and Deviant Moon Tarot (I also have the hardcover companion book, @Wyrdkiss 🙂 ) These two decks are among my favorites.
sweeneyish Posted March 5, 2022 Posted March 5, 2022 @Wyrdkiss Pretty beautiful borderless, eh? The cards are thinner than the bordered ones but I actually quite like the feeling of them. The first time I shuffled them I had that “Oh, this deck is a good one for me” feeling. I’m quite inspired to dive deep on this one. A few more decks of Patrick’s will be coming through the mail to me in the next weeks, so I’m sure I’ll get distracted and play with them, but I’m quite dedicated to getting know this deck! I did the Lunatic Spread for the LWB this morning. I don’t usually use reversals, but in an attempt to try to honour all the work he put into the card meanings, I incorporated them here. As always, I found the reversals added a bit of a negative tone to the spread, but a lot of it also felt pretty accurate.
AJ-ish/Sharyn Posted March 5, 2022 Posted March 5, 2022 Wild Medicine Herbal Deck for me, thank you VG
Bodhiseed Posted March 5, 2022 Posted March 5, 2022 Nigel Jackson Tarot paired with the Viking Lenormand for me - thanks VGimlet.🍀
Mi-Shell Posted March 5, 2022 Posted March 5, 2022 Hi Everyone!♥ Herbcrafter's Tarot for me this weak please! @AJ-ish/Sharyn! I would love to get this deck and ad it into my Herbal explorations!
sweeneyish Posted March 6, 2022 Posted March 6, 2022 I decided to redo my lunatic spread from yesterday without reversals, since they always seem to block the flow of the reading for me. Instead I considered both sets of meanings for each card based on the context. So much better! The cards really lend themselves to storytelling.
Rachelcat Posted March 6, 2022 Posted March 6, 2022 Sorry I’m late! Too bad about the fish’s nose! I love the artwork of that deck, but I let it go a while back. Maybe I need a borderless one minus a fish’s nose? I could never get into the Deviant Moon. It’s definitely a love it or hate it deck. I mean I can see why people would love it, but I don’t! I had Tarot of the Spirit long ago, too. It looks more interesting now that I’ve seen so many other decks to compare it with! This week, I’ll be using Teuila Fortune Telling Cards. This is a sibilla-style deck created in 1899 by a American woman living in Hawaii and then Samoa, printed in 1923, now reprinted by TheCartomancer. (Teuila is the national flower of Samoa.) The 45 poker-sized cards include 6 people cards, 3 men and 3 women. The instructions are printed on cards. They include a specific reading method/spread that I’ll try later today. But first, wash, shuffle, and interview! Most important characteristic: 18. Money (wealth) Readings with this deck will be about mundane fortunes, including fortune! Strength: 19. Laurel Wreath (honors, fame) It’s very good at what it’s meant for. It’s flashy and easy to understand. Weakness: 28. Medicine (sickness) It can be a bit blunt about negative outcomes, including sickness. What I can learn from deck: 17. Life Preserver (help) Despite its drawbacks, readings with the deck can actually be helpful and useful. How can I learn it? 42. Kettle (emotion) The best way to be helpful with it is to read intuitively. Allow my feelings to boil up during readings. Outcome of our work together: 32. Vase (tears) It will end in tears! Well, that’s not good. Unless they are cathartic tears, but I don’t think that’s what this deck is good for . . . Well, we’ll see about all that this week! On to the “How to Tell a Fortune” method! (See you in my journal thread.)

I could not agree more with your statement about Reversals. I started with the Thoth, and Crowley never used them. So later when I experimented with them with other decks I just experienced annoyance. There is enough duality in each card, coupled with context and a spread, to never look back and touch them again. This reading looks like a picture book with flowing, turned pages. I love it.
sweeneyish Posted March 6, 2022 Posted March 6, 2022 Thanks @Wyrdkiss, it is really reassuring and validating to read your view here! And I totally agree re: the story book vibe. The circular spread is really great for showing the interactions between all the characters as well.

Conducted my first reading of the week with my Darkness of Light tarot. My question centered around a visit up North I have planned. I am pressed for time with life matters, but I want to see this friend. The spread was simply, "What if I cancel (left) and what if I make the journey (right). If I postpone -- Queen of Swords. This confident woman makes the decisions that are best for her, and when engaged in this mode of personality this is the look she gives to anyone who criticizes. The ultimate in practicality, she says, "your true friends will wait. Take care of your business." The Sun was so illuminating, however, in the context of this question. No pun intended. I feel as if a brief visit can be managed if prioritized, and it is long overdue. There is also the potential for some healing and reflection on the way and back as well. I've decided to make it happen. This is the first pressing of this deck. Wildly popular, it is now in its fourth printing. Edited March 7, 2022 by Wyrdkiss
sweeneyish Posted March 7, 2022 Posted March 7, 2022 What a beautiful, intriguing deck, @Wyrdkiss. There is something very magnetizing about the sun in that card - something about the proportions and layering in relation to the dog and grass. Very cool!
Bodhiseed Posted March 7, 2022 Posted March 7, 2022 This week I'll be using the Nigel Jackson Tarot, created by Jackson and published by Llewellyn. I'll also be using the Viking Lenormand, created and self-published by my talented friend Carole Beasley. Today's draws are the Four of Cups and Mountain: The Four of Cups is a study in excess and deficiency. Whatever we've been doing at breakneck speed, whatever constantly fills our days, suddenly comes to a screeching halt. We become disenchanted and exhausted, finding no pleasure or meaning in what we normally do. Our psychological see-saw - with one end tilted up for so long - now comes crashing down. The antidote to the issue is to start doing what we have neglected for so long and keep what we usually do at a bare minimum. The Mountain of Lenormand suggests barriers and complications. It recognizes that we've been so dependable at whatever we normally do, we've trained people to expect us to continue doing it nonstop. While it may be easier to train a feral dog than retrain a human, consistency and tenacity can be our allies. If someone isn't what others want them to be, the others become angry. Everyone seems to have a clear idea of how other people should lead their lives, but none about his or her own. ― Paulo Coelho
sweeneyish Posted March 7, 2022 Posted March 7, 2022 Thanks for sharing, @Bodhiseed - Looks like your cards worked really well together today. By the way, this is a total aside, but I wear a bodhiseed mala on me constantly. Good name choice! My spread for today (past/present/future) - It was so accurate it made me laugh. I didn't need to interpret much on my end.
Bodhiseed Posted March 7, 2022 Posted March 7, 2022 Thank you, @sweeneyish❤️. I love that peapod baby in your Ace of Wands!😍
