I am in with the Trionfi della Luna Paradoxical (Illustrated Pips). Now that’s a mouthful!

And in with my first reading - I guess I'm always starting these a day early? Apologies 😱. A "What do I need to know about this coming weekend?" question and open spread:

image.thumb.jpeg.dd80dee56f9a8ec9e04b3b24f53d88f9.jpeg

First impressions of the Paradoxical version - It's beautiful! I have the more mono-coloured blue paradoxical version of the Marseilles style deck, and though I like it, I miss having more variation in the colour, especially for reading the pips. Both issues are solved with this deck - more colour, and illustrated pips. They glow under black light as well, so I'll take a photo of that sometime this week. Here's the reading:

IV of Swords: A young sprite meditates in the heart of a flower, protected by its sword wielding vines. I see meditation, rest, recovery, protection - and also, pregnancy. Well, we have a second little one on the way, and that is certainly having a reasonably large impact on our lives, so part of my intuition goes there. At the same time, I am a fairly hardcore meditator, I'm tired, and I'm trying to give up a 20 year coffee habit, so there's something about the card that screams "I'm resting in meditative equipose, and look out - I haven't had enough coffee and I have swords".

Ace of Cups: An elaborate, beautiful cup pours pure, elixir-like water into the depths of a peaceful lake. Overflowing feelings of love and happiness, extreme joy, abundance, and also...pregnancy. Perhaps things are becoming more clear!

Nine of Wands: A demon warrior stands upon a bloodied hill, having defended his kingdom from a brutal attack. Though he has endured injuries, he stands ready to battle and will never give up. Persistence, resolve, resilience.

I'm feeling battered, tired, caffeine deprived, and ready to just lie on the floor and let the world wash over me, so I'm think this might be me in the spread...And so perhaps the message is that as tired and (slightly) defeated as I might feel, I'm not beaten - I can stand tall, drink from the joyful Cup of Aces and be a powerful support for my family over the coming weekend.

@Wyrdkiss Trionfi buddies! Looking forward to hearing your perspective.

My daily reading today:

FDF6AB8F-E831-4808-8D96-6DCDF9C358AD.thumb.jpeg.74e232979cbb0e2e4b28fd1d7a09c27f.jpeg

Wheel of Fortune: The Wheel of Samsara turns and turns, some getting dumped

on the ground, others rising to the top, again and again. This is the flow of time and space that we’ve created for ourselves - we can get off any time, but we’re so caught up we don’t see our potential for freedom. All of the mundane daily life activity often grabs my attention on the weekends, and I need to remember to come back to my awareness again and again - and remember that Wheel is self-created.

The Star: Even when we’re dumped

to the ground by the Wheel, hope springs eternal. The Star Maiden, in the midst of being devoured by the suffering of samsara, sees a beautiful star emerge from

the darkness. Samsara is actually nirvana - if we can see through the suffering to the purity of our experience, we will see the star-like nature that is inherent to us.

King of Wands: My astrological card

according to the Golden Dawn/RWS thinking. I don’t follow astrology with my reading, but it’s still interesting to consider. Honestly,

I consider myself more of a Queen of Cups, but maybe that’s wishful thinking!

He’s a visionary leader, full of intuition, imagination, and passion. Perhaps I feel like the Wheel has dumped me on the ground, but seeing hope I’m beginning to rise again and embody the direction and energy of the King of Wands.

Two of Cups: Third time I’ve gotten this card three times in the past week! The meaning is personally obvious, and the general meanings apply too: unification, loving partnership, balance. As a side note, this is one of my favourite cards in the deck- It is beautiful.

And one more, as Saturday mornings are usually my time to get some reading in. This from the 365 Tarot Spreads book, The Old Bourbon Street spread for May 7th:

289FB9BE-B453-419D-9FBF-7110BB2721BD.thumb.jpeg.fc38ec977acf4c092f70b97e1c033223.jpeg

How do I sell myself short? Justice

Sometimes I let unfair circumstances take advantage of me in the name of peace. I need to balance my wish for peace with making sure I’m not used as a doormat!

What is the biggest risk I take? Page of Cups

Indulging in excess, dreaming a little too big…Yep.

How am I innovative? IX of Swords

Through my spiritual practice, I have overcome a lot of mental pain and anxiety and am starting to learn how to take happiness and sorrow on to the path - and to even welcome suffering as part of my journey.

How can I let myself be free? XX Judgement

Spiritual enlightenment. Redemption. I need to stick to the practices that will lead me to wake up.

How well do I moderate myself? 0 The Fool

Ouch! I moderate myself like the Fool - not very well, and I’m innocent about the consequences. This is definitely something I need to work on.

What wicked magic do I possess? V of Coins

Much like the IX of Swords, I see this as taking sorrow on to the path - Accepting suffering and recognizing the inherent wisdom in it. Seeing the good and the bad. I’m not sure I possess it yet, but I’m certainly working on it.

I'm in with the Osho Zen Tarot this week. I've done no readings yet as I slept in today and I'm still having my first cup of coffee.

@sweeneyish I really like the way you interpret your cards. It's so fascinating to see what others see in them. I don't see the wheel dumping anyone one though. They are clinging to it and one has to let go to be "dumped". Sometimes it is less scary to be crushed under the wheel. No one and nothing else to blame if we just let go of it ourselves. Also I really like that second spread and I think I'm going to try it out with my Osho Zen later. 😄

I'm still in with the Tarot of Vampyres. Between the physical deck and the app I've really enjoyed having a daily tarot practice again, and I was able to pull cards early enough in the day to serve as guidance for each day. I finished the second coating of black edging today and now it looks perfect 😁

@Page of Ghosts I should do a second coat. I have noticed a few spots I missed but trying to find them individually was a bit tricky. I don't know why I didn't think to just give them all a second coat. 🤣

My first reading for the week.

333720490_20220507_1346032.thumb.jpg.3fc6b7f477c0644bb8a1ea67be4ef392.jpg

This is the same spread @sweeneyish used above.

1. How do i sell myself short?

    Exhaustion (Nine of Wands)

The person in this picture is boxed in by all the things. Perhaps they feel that whole contraption is going to fall apart around them. It's up to them to hold it all together. They aren't just selling themselves short but everyone else who might want to step up and learn about the machine. In other news I slept until after 11am today. I can't remember the last time I did that. I've been at my mom's while she recovers from surgery and for the first time she made breakfast and did things without me running to help. It might be time to make her actually ask for help instead of trying to stay ahead of her needs.

2. What is the biggest risk I take?

    Sorrow (Nine of Swords)

When confused just say what you see so... This person is just sitting there looking (okay, reading my notes I wrote a different word than I was thinking: mystery) miserable. Perhaps my big risk isn't in doing but not doing? I'm kind of unsure about this one.

3. How am I innovative?

    Conditioning (The Devil)

This is not the light reading I was hoping for after all the heavy the Tarot of Vampyres was giving me last week. I am a Leo so of course the lion resonates. Trying to fit into something that clearly is too small let alone improper in every way for it's savage nature. Let's say wild, not savage. It brings me back to the Seven of Grails in last weeks Tarot of Vampyres reading. The snakes in her hair being set free. I need to stop trying to limit myself to what I think society expects me be. I've never been able to fit or even think inside that box.

4. How can I let myself be free?

    Intensity (Knight of Swords)

This card reminds me of the Hermit. One guy shining a light. It's the brightest card in the reading. I need to let myself shine. Be truly myself. This message keeps popping up in all my readings. I am holding myself back somehow.

5. How well do I moderate myself?

    Fighting (Knight of Swords)

Back to gray again. I am constantly struggling to fit in. I might be moderating myself well but at what cost?

6. What wicked magic do I possess?

Clinging to the Past (Five of Cups)

At least there are colors? This person is hiding their face behind a big box of...  mouths? Words have power. Maybe I need to watch the stories I tell myself and others. As I sit typing this I am thinking of all my writing projects. I always feel uncomfortable thinking about publishing because I've read so much and heard so many things I never really feel like anything is my own words and that everything I write would just be a big pile of plagiarism.

I haven't even bothered to look at the book yet. Maybe that will help this feel a bit less overwhelming. This was not what I was expecting from this spread so I have to process a little.

Spacious Tarot and Druid Animal Oracle for me.

Ooo, I was thinking I should do the Druid Animal Oracle some week.  I look forward to seeing how you get along with it!  In the meantime:

I got it in the mail!  The Adorabyssal Oracle!  As I mentioned in the coming in the mail thread, I couldn’t wait patiently for the Charming Cryptids Oracle (a Kickstarter), so when I saw this in a video, I had to grab it!

1281457636_Saturday1.jpg.f9c12fe30dca80217e8c1a6a16367703.jpg

Get ready for cuteness overload!  It’s 36 poker-sized cards of mythical beings (animals and humanoids) in a super-cute style.  In a tin, with an equally cute booklet (with the binding at the top, which makes it easy to read even though it’s so small).  The cards have the name, a keyword, and an elemental attribution, 9 cards for each of the 4 elements.  The booklet further categorizes the cards into positive, neutral, and negative; and cryptid, supernatural, and mythological.

There are a few creatures that I haven’t heard of, so they will fun to learn about.

Short interview time!

1923988742_Saturday2.thumb.jpg.c0e022d4984fd23da7392f0923abc47c.jpg

Strength:  Nessie, Longevity

People will always be interested in mythical creatures, so interest in the deck and its theme will persist.  Even though some critters are creepy, they all look cute and friendly.  Well, almost all.

Weakness:  Dullahan, Inevitability

This is a headless horseman with the added attraction of whenever he stops riding, a human dies.  Nice.  To be fair, death is inevitable for all of us, so he’s just doing his job.  And to be meta, no matter how cute the creatures are, they definitely have negative stories behind them.  So probably not good for children.

What can I learn from deck?  Cadejo, Duality

I can learn that there are two sides to everything.  And it’s good to take both into account.  These are a pair I didn’t know about.  They’re twin giant dogs who accost lost travelers or drunks.  One can lead the lost to safety and the other to perdition, but which is which?  Which to you follow?

Outcome of our work together:  Fairie, Trickery

The book categorizes the fairie as negative and says the best thing to do is avoid her and her tricks.  She’s small but mighty in mishaps.  So I need to beware of where this deck takes me and be sure not to use it to bring negative readings to anyone.

Ok!  Interesting reading here!  I look forward to playing with the deck more this week.  See you soon!

This is a really good point - and actually in the context of reading the card as the wheel

of samsara, letting go is exactly the right thing to do - and yet we keep clinging.

I always find it to be a bit of a slap when a reading takes me the places I wasn’t expecting (or would rather not) go. There are some nice pieces in here - let that light shine! Also, I too am a Leo!

So my question was what to expect from the weekend and these were the cards I drew. Despite my best efforts, not everything always goes as planned over my weekends - but most of the time it works out to be fairly relaxing. So all in all, a valid first reading with the Sasuraibito.

Deck is SUPER cute -- and there's the rub with Oracle decks (Fairie, and to an extent, Duality) -- I can catch myself blindly believing what the deck says as fact rather than using it to spurn contemplative, "both sides of the coin" thinking.  I am glad you are sticking with it, seems very fun and I love the art.

This week I'll be using the Rohrig Tarot, created by Carl W. Rohrig and published by Sirio. The other deck I'll be drawing from is called a tarot, but I'll be using it as an oracle: the Master Tarot. It was created by Amerigo Folchi and Mario Montano and published by AG Muller. Today's cards are the Five of Cups and the Housekeeper:

five%20of%20cups.jpgthe%20housekeeper_0002.jpg

We all have times when we keep up the appearance of being happy and fulfilled, when we pretend all is well. But eventually a big cinder block crushes that illusion (metaphorically speaking), and we are incapable of living the lie any longer. It may be tempting to make ourselves feel better by blaming someone else, but we first might want to consider any unrealistic expectations we used as a foundation for that relationship. The Housekeeper is a 'doer' and gets satisfaction from having a comfortably clean and ordered home. She reminds me of a quote by Louise Erdrich that can be helpful when we feel like we're under that huge cinder block: "When everything big is out of control, you start taking charge of small things."

@Wyrdkiss You’ll have to let me know which Devil you decide to read with. They’re all pretty fun (and some are quite lewd, even for a Devil card 😆).

Today’s reading:

Page of Coins: Boy, I get this card a lot. Clearly it is trying to tell me something. The Page chases after a flying coin, but if he’s not careful, he’ll fall into the stream ahead. Chasing dreams, financially naïve.

Two of Swords: She holds one blade up on each side, seemingly guarding from the Page of Swords on one side and the Three of Swords on the other. At first glance I was going to go with choice as the meaning, but now that I’ve looked at the spread more as standing my ground against the energy

on either side - the grasping attachment of the Page of Coins and the self-pity and over

the top sorrow of the Three of Swords.

Three of Swords: A heartbroken man opens up his chest to show his broken heart to the world. Grief, drama, depression, overreaction.  I’m moody! I need to acknowledge and accept any emotions that arise, but there’s no need to overindulge and have a pity party. Instead, I can keep guard with mindfulness and awareness like the Two of Swords, not getting pulled into attachment or aversion.

It was created by Amerigo Folchi and Mario Montano and published by AG Muller. Today's cards are the Five of Cups and the Housekeeper:

That is quite the Five of Cups - talk about an obstacle! I love how you weaved these two cards together.

Thank you, @sweeneyish.❤️ I really enjoy using a Thoth-based deck from time to time.

Somewhere I picked up the saying, "You can't stop a bird from flying over your head but you don't have to let it make a nest in your hair." Your pity party comment made it come to mind.

@Rachelcat That Adorabysmal Oracle is adorable!

@AnomalyTempest Definitely recommend a second coating! At first I mainly noticed the little white spots I missed, but as I went ahead I saw how my first round had ended up more like a dark grey than a true black 😅 Yours looked much better in photos than mine, but any little mistakes or missed spots show up so easily when it's all black.

@Rachelcat Your oracle deck is adorable! I hope to see more of it.

@sweeneyish The more I see of the illustrated pips edition of the TDL the more I adore it. Thank you for sharing so many pictures of this deck! The paradoxical version is a little too funky for my eyeballs, but I'll give credit to a very unique and cool concept.
