Thanks again to vulprix and fire cat pickles for keeping up the DOTW while I was computer challenged!!!

I'm back still with the Wild Unknown tarot  - it was good to know we kept rolling along!

I'm in with the Sasha Fenton again. I don't feel I used it as much as I would like.

Greetings everyone. Spending some time with the Maroon Tarot this week, a lovely dark little deck from Poland. I've missed working with it, and need to revisit to see if some of my hesitation has shifted.

Where did last week go? Time for some of the Housewives' Tarot's down-to-earth wisdom, I think. It's dose of snark is sure to help me out of this funk.

I love all the decks everyone is using this week! I'm in with the Shadowscapes Tarot paired with my Cedar Runes. Glad you're back VG, but thankful for those DoWers that kept us going. ❤️

I only had time for a single card pull today:

Yes, a good variety this week!  Those Housewives are something else!  And I'm interested to see the Shadowscapes in action, and all the decks!

This week I’m going to go with Tarotbot Black.  I feel like I didn’t give it a good chance to connect when I first got it back in October, and I was reminded of it by a recent thread here, so let’s try again!

As you see, the deck is very black, with a glossy black-on-black box and card backs, and black edges and borders.  It’s RWS-based with 16 “bonus” cards, which I’m going to leave shuffled in.

I like robot artwork, and I have 2 other robot decks (I Tarocchi di Robot and the majors-only Robo Tarot), plus a deck that has kind-of robots in one suit (Tarot of Metamorphosis).  (I think that’s going to be my deck for next week.)  BUT I found out I don’t really like robot stories.  They’re all about either prejudice (which is depressing to read about) or what it means to be human (which is too philosophical for fiction for me!).  So robot decks it is!

On to the interview!

Most important characteristic:  Page of Coins

The deck is by a relatively new tarotist, but it has become a worthy object in itself.

Strength:  Ace of Wands

Its strength is that it happened.  It’s great because it took a lot of creativity and energy to make it a reality.

Weakness:  Eight of Swords

It’s constrained by the RWS paradigm.  I think it’s odd that this robot has long hair.  The temple? on the hill symbolizes the pressure of orthodoxy.  Like the hierophant next.

What can the deck teach me?  The Hierophant

It can teach me what is essential in the RWS tradition by showing how the creator envisioned it.  I like his little one-legged acolytes!

How can I learn it?  Three of Swords

Humbly, be open to learning.  Don’t be like I already know everything.  I can learn something new from any deck, including this one.

Outcome of our work together:  Queen of Cups

But in the end, it will come down to how I feel about the deck rather than if it works intellectually.  I’ll either like it or not!

Hmm, we’ll see where this takes us this week!  See you tomorrow!

This week I'll be using the Shadowscapes book and deck set published by Llewellyn. The artwork was created by Stephanie Pui-Mun Law and the book was written by Barbara Moore. I'll also be drawing from a set of Cedar Runes, using the book The Serpent and the Eagle by Chris Travers as an accompanying text. Today's draws are Nine of Pentacles and Laguz:

We must use time as a tool, not as a couch. –John F. Kennedy

Time well spent leads to a life well lived. Disciplined effort can bring fruitful results: time for the arts, hobbies, cultural or social activities and enjoying nature. Not that I'd stick with a job that was unethical or spirit crushing, but I've always thought of the jobs I've held as a means to an end. They paid the bills, and if they offered friendship or enjoyment, that was an added bonus. Like the snail shell that serves as this fairy's piano seat, working was a way to fund time for slowing down to do what I loved. The rune Laguz literally means 'water,' a symbol of nourishment, transport, livelihood and ritual for the Norse. Lakes and the sea were appreciated for their gifts, but also respected because of their dangers. This rune represents possibilities that are offered if we are willing to heed and follow through with what is asked of us. Sounds a bit like employment.

@Bodhiseed I love the art on that deck. I have it as well but I haven't used it much. I'm excited to see how it reads for you.

I'm using the Sasha Fenton tarot again. This deck is almost like a beginner's guide to pip decks. I really like how the pips have some imagery yet not really. It makes a pretty good bridge imo. Anyway, here's my weekly reading:

What to prioritize this week: Three of Cups

Things that bring me joy. Start putting on music again and dance while I work. I can't help seeing the RWS version of this card in my head and hearing Hannah Gatsby (a comedian) talking about how apparently women's favorite activity throughout history has been dancing naked in groups of three. She was talking art history and it was hilarious.

How can I better organize my time? Queen of Swords

By thinking clearly about my plans and goals while being realistic about what I can accomplish.

A way to be productive without feeling overwhelmed: Temperance

Don't try to fill every minute. Leave time for distractions and downtime.  In fact, schedule fun things in with the "work" things.

How can I incorporate what I love? Four of Swords

Relax. It's okay to rest or have slow days where everything moves at a snails pace. This one seems to combine well with the previous one.

Something new to increase self care: Seven of Wands

Put down other people's burdens. Not all problems are yours to fix and trying to drag all the crap uphill only prolongs my journey.

@AnomalyTempest, I really like the Shadowscapes' artwork too, but I'm glad I have a scanner so I can see it in a larger size! The Fenton has some great scenic (rather than fully illustrated) pips!

I'm here!

And here are my Sunday and Monday readings!

Today's question: should I go to the conference? Magician. In this deck, he's portrayed as a sleazy salesman: smooth talking, lies, and deception. Perhaps more aligned with the TdF traveling conjurer than many interpretations. Well, perhaps not far off, a lot of conference presentations tend to be about selling a pitch and self promotion more than genuine sharing of knowledge.

The magician - generally in a more wizardy master-of-enchantment guise -  is really stalking me lately.

I've always really liked the Housewives Tarot. The whole package is awesome - nice box, thin playing-card size deck that's easy to handle with a nice matte finish. The design is really well done -  consistent retro housekeeper style, with a super snarky take on domestic life and its idealization in retro media and advertising. And a lot of the time, its advice is really right on. I've found it usually gives me a useful answer.

Currently finding it less easy to relate to - didn't even post yesterday's reading; I think maybe it's because the deck isn't a great match for some of my current concerns.

@VGimlet!! I am so glad you are all right and so glad you are BACK!! Welcome!! 😄

A little late on the jump but I am using the Wooden Tarot by Andrew Schwartz this week!

Posted (edited)

Greetings everyone!  I'm finally getting back on track, unpacked and ready to enjoy this thread after my busy but fulfilling vacation with my son.

@euripides I deduced the polar opposite of the magician card, based on my current interaction with it in other decks. I do not understand the deck author's desire to turn him into a scam artist, and I don't blame you for relating less to it.  I hope it turns around for you but it is understandable if it does not.

Here's my favorite card from the Maroon tarot out of Poland:

The back is posted as well:
