Thanks @fire cat pickles. You are really skillful when it comes to using the astrological and elemental associations when you read your cards!

I'm in this week with the Spacious Tarot and the Phenomena Oracle.

Hi Everyone!♥

I am back home after a 2 months trip to the very last outpost on the North shore of the St Lawrence River.

It was an incredible adventure....

While we still had ice and snow and icebergs to admire, now I have to re-adjust to the tropical heat of central Ontario in the summer.

A good deck to explore, while I struggle to with heat and humidity should be this, my deck of the week, the

Flora and Fauna of Africa  Oracle deck created by Jessi Jumanji.

The cards are very appealing, large, sturdy and beautifully illustrated with an Animal and a Flower.

I could not find any more information on this deck on the net, as to why Jessi choose to put these specific combinations together, so I will have to entirely rely on my own explorations.

My first card, pulled from the Flora and Fauna of Africa

The Caracal:

Caracal.JPG.e89d81fc87fb33f1683b8748871e9ec4.JPG

The Caracal is a medium-sized wild Cat native to Africa the Middle East, Central Asia and arid areas of Pakistan and northwestern India. It is characterized by a robust build, long legs, a short face, long tufted ears, and long canine teeth The Animal is nocturnal, secretive and solitary. It also is threatened in its home range.

It feeds on rodents and small Mammals but is also esteemed for its ability to catch birds in flight and was used for game hunting by Mughal emperors in India.  Chinese emperors used Caracals as gifts. These Animals were then trained to hunt alongside Humans.

The Caracal appears to have been religiously significant in the ancient Egyptian culture, as it occurs in paintings and as bronze figurines; sculptures are thought to have guarded the tombs of pharaohs. Embalmed Caracals have also been discovered.

This of course reminds me of the Goddess Bast and all the Powers ascribed to her.

On the card only the head of the Caracl is visible and somehow the Animal looks a bit sad, subdue and pensive. But maybe it is listening to an inner voice, its intuition as the promptings say. In contrast to listening inside I am also told to be aware of my surroundings and leap at opportunities. To me this feels a bit contradictory. So For today I will concentrate on – listening. The Caracal has large ears and the exceptional hearing of a nocturnal hunter.

Combined with the Caracal I am finding an open Rosella Flower on my card:

Rosella/ Hibiscus Heterophyllus

Hibiscus heterophyllus, commonly known as native Rosella or toilet paper bush, is a flowering Plant in the family Malvaceae. It a Shrub or small Tree with white, pale pink or yellow Flowers with a dark red centre

It is native to eastern Australia, where it can be found from the tropics of northern Queensland to the warm temperate climate of southeastern New South Wales. It can tolerate short periods of frost with temperatures falling to around -5°c, but succumbs to longer periods of cold.
Prefers a well-drained humus rich fertile soil in full Sun

Leaves and young shoots - raw or cooked. Pleasantly acid

An excellent Spinach substitute, the boiled leaves losing their acidity

The large, decorative Flowers make an attractive garnish on salads[

The Flower buds can be used to make a jam

A tough fibre obtained from the stems is used for making nets and cords.

This is one of the fibres of which the Aborigines commonly make their dilly-bags.

I am surprised, to learn, that on this deck, focusing on African Fauna and Flora I am finding a Plant native to Australia.

Did the deck creator not know that?

Or are Rosellas meanwhile widespread in Africa?

Be that as it may, learning more about Rosellas and the fact that they are tasty, I focus on the sense of TASTE

All in all I am pleased, that checking into this card I learned something new and I am prompted to take note of my senses, especially hearing and taste!

Time for some Hibiscus Tea ♥

Greetings lovelies.

This week I will compare and juxtapose my Sola Busca Revisited with the Deck of the Bastard. Both feature keyword meanings, and are from Tarot by Seven. LLC.

This week I'll be using the Spacious Tarot, a self-published deck that was a collaboration between Annie Ruygt and Carrie Mallon. I'll also be using the Phenomena Oracle, a deck self-published by Jessica Bott. Today's draws are the Ten of Swords and Geyser:

ten%20of%20swords.jpg   geyser_0002.jpg

We all have things we believe in, ideas that we expect (even demand) will manifest into something solid and sustainable. But life rarely follows our plans, and can in fact squash them as flat as a run-over beer can. Then we may feel like this felled tree, having all that gave us vitality and purpose cut away. We can become maudlin (stabbing our own self and creating more suffering), or we can let go and try to remain open as the sky above us. The Geyser - an intermittent column of steamy hot water - suggests that such an opening will allow us to be surprised by ideas that are new and different. And if we nurture them and refuse to put concrete around them, those seeds might grow into mighty oaks.

Progress is impossible without change, and those who cannot change their minds cannot change anything. ~George Bernard Shaw

Well, my Little Cosma Visions Oracle got short shrift because I was in the hospital for a couple of days.  Including on my birthday.  Worst birthday ever!  Actually, it was a good day because the tests found out my heart is all ok, and the real problem is easily fixable with meds!

So I’m home and taking it easy with an easy deck.  No heavy studying and figuring things out this week.  WPA Tarot Card Deck by Bobby Alexander on Etsy it is!

1736386630_Sunday1.thumb.jpg.054ea3aa73d77d3362a79ee932c23c83.jpg

Bobby has created many decks using extant art, including vintage comic books, etc.  This one uses posters made for the Works Progress Administration, a depression era New Deal federal jobs program in the 1930s, which included jobs for artists, which I think is very cool.  The art is all different styles, of course, but they all have a 30s vibe, also of course.  So let’s see what it wants to tell us!

2057822025_Sunday2.thumb.jpg.c8b1153a05dbf41d790e9f41a3d7eb7e.jpg

Most important characteristic:  Five of Cups

These are posters designed to get a practical message out.  Usually.  Which in a certain way can make it a bit negative.  The deck is very US-centric, as it should be.  It will be timely, right on time for Fourth of July!

Strength:  Death - 13

It has very tarot-y images, and it’s very to the point!

Weakness:  Ace of Pentacles

All the aces are too similar?  I really like this card . . . !

What I can learn from the deck:  The Moon - 18

How to read more intuitively than I usually do.

How I can learn it:  Ace of Swords

I said intuitively, but I think I mean by thinking about the images.  Seeing them from a higher perspective, like this picture.

Outcome of our work together:  Knight of Wands

I’ll get a better understanding of things by going with the deck.  The scene and person seem very Western (costume and architecture), but he’s on a flying carpet.  (It almost looks like film!)  I’ll see diversity even though it wasn’t specifically intended.

I really like these aces.  And the other cards here.  We’ll see how it goes this week.  Now to catch up a little, I’ll do a birthday reading.

Here's my birthday reading with this fun deck!  Even though it wasn't too fun at the beginning!

🎂@Rachelcat, sending you a gentle hug and hoping you have a do-over birthday party for yourself! :animated-smileys-hug-002:💓 Glad it wasn't anything too serious.

Welcome back @Rachelcat!

It looks like a little whimsy may be on your get well self-care list that the Dr. ordered! Sounds like you got some good (not-good-but-okay/better-than bad-news?) news from you hospital visit... Get well and we're glad you're back!

Thank you so much, @Bodhiseed and @fire cat pickles!  I feel so much better.  And it really was good news.  I just need to be good and follow orders and I should be fine!  And a little whimsy (and laziness) can't hurt!

Welcome back @Wyrdkiss and @Amberjune!

Thank you so much.

And I'm glad you are ok @Rachelcat!

I did a spread today I simply call, "release and manifest". What must I dismiss to bring new empowerment in my life, and what should that

manifesting explore.

The results were not surprising. I need to make peace with and let go of some relationship residue (left), and magnetize what

I desire to create and develop (personal, right).

On the note of Deck of the Week, you can see these are both keyworded and I am still most fond of the simplicity of the left card art.

The Sola Busca Revisited is cool, but I am uncertain I will read with it for anyone else. The Deck of the Bastard, on the left, was a total workhorse

for me and my querents when I did multiple Halloween season readings years ago.  I did not lean on the keywords, but they were helpful when fatigued

to have a touchstone or concept to bound off of.

More to come.

What are your thoughts on keyworded decks? Love them? Intrigued? No way! perhaps?

Hi Wyrdkiss 🙂 I like keyworded decks. I wouldn’t say that I prefer them, but depending on the situation, they can be welcome (like you’re saying, in instances of fatigue). Keywords may hone a card’s meaning to be overly narrowed, but they may also aid in clarity. I feel that they are also an expression of creator intent, which—if you like the artwork of a deck and the way that it reads—are part and parcel of the reading experience that should be embraced. Much easier than rejecting them and trying to refuse to read them 😄

I hope everyone is having a good week. I had an exhausting weekend but will likely find some solace here with a reading or two soon. May change decks though—have not been using the Fairy Lights, too abstract for right now. May just try a deck with keywords this week, who knows? 😉
