Mi-Shell Posted September 5, 2022 Posted September 5, 2022 Daily reading indicates confusion and flying feathers! Yes, I have to agree!

Agnes Posted September 6, 2022 Posted September 6, 2022 Star Spinner again. Today I just asked for situation / thing to do / thing to avoid doing My initial reading : I'm starting new learning projects (Page of Wands). Seems like this could refer to a couple new interests. Do (10 of cups) feel family love and support? Do things that support family happiness? Don't (10 of wands) take on so much that I'm overburdened. The book notes that a large garden takes more work to tend than a single plant, which reminds me of the jungle waiting to be dealt with out back. Oh! Maybe these two together are reminding me that I can get carried away with new projects to the extent that it affects our family workings. This is such a sweet deck. Look at that overburdened fairy! I like the nuance here, that the burdens can be things that you willingly took on. 10 of cups imagery is less clear to me; it feels like the 2 of cups or the Lovers.
AnomalyTempest Posted September 6, 2022 Posted September 6, 2022 Wow @Agnes that deck looks so, well, sweet. I really like that 10 of wands too. I looked back over my daily draws for July and realized I never drew a knight/king so I feel a little less disappointed in myself for not noticing the change. The Thoth-like decks I have don't have knights/pages etc. They are all renamed Lords or Captains and such. I'm not as unobservant as I was thinking. I will however lay out decks and look at the all the cards from now on. I don't know why I didn't with the Thoth. That being said, in the LWB that came with the deck was a spread they claimed was meant to be easier than the Celtic Cross. It's 15 cards. basically five positions with three cards each. It was huge and I think I could spend months on it. (I won't though 😛 ) so I'll just post a picture and do a little summary. The central three cards are meant to represent the querent (center) and the nature of the problem with cards 2 and 3 (left and right) in conjunction with card 1 are the cards describing the nature of the situation and personality of the querent. When I turned over the first card and saw the Heirophant my initial reaction (as it nearly always is) was eww, the Heirophant. The RWS card always made me think of the Inquistion (I don't know why really) so I've never really liked the card. The first thing I noticed was the High Priestess and how the Heirophant stood like a shield around her. I saw it like a lantern, taking the pale, cool, light of the Priestess and focusing it, warming it as it spreads it further than she would alone. When I turned the other cards over I saw the lightly colored Empress it seemed like all that light was part of the wildness of the Priestess while the darkness on the other side showed the shadows behind the Heirophant. I've spent two days thinking over the implications of these three cards. My main takeaway is that I can likely spend a lot of time on this spread and not unpack it all. I keep wanting to think about these first three cards. Simpler than the Celtic Cross my behind! Of course, I was gifted with an overabundance of imagination and can spend days on a single card so there is that. For some reason I am just stuck on the imagery of these first three cards. I did write down my initial impressions of the other cards but I've not really paid any attention to them. I don't think I really liked this deck before I got it. I'd seen all the art but it didn't really speak to me. Using the deck, I'm gaining a real appreciation for it and it may become a favorite.

I think this deck is so pretty but I'm not really clicking with the images as sources of information. I'm always so excited with a new deck, then get a little sad when it doesn't do it for me. It's disappointing. I like what you said about the 10 of Wands in your reading - our burdens are often projects we willingly took on, and sometimes eagerly. That's a good reminder. @AnomalyTempest I have the Thoth deck, and a few related decks in my collection. I keep telling myself that I will someday work with them, but I've had them for years. I often doubt I ever will - then I see someone working with the Thoth and enjoying it and I change my mind again. Maybe Maybe. Edited September 7, 2022 by DesertRat Add stuff

I don't even remember why I got it except I just felt no collection would be complete without it. I didn't think the art really spoke to me. Crowley has a reputation. Just lots of excuses. Not to mention decks I just plain like better. I didn't even do my new deck activities that I do with every other deck. It just didn't excite me. Now I can't stop looking. It's kinda like a wreck but not horrifying. 😂
Wyrdkiss Posted September 7, 2022 Posted September 7, 2022 @AnomalyTempestThe Thoth is capable of yielding very deep dives with only a few cards. Don't feel like you are moving too slowly with one, two or three card draws initially!

The meanings seem a bit cut and paste. For example, Queen Bee: " her children are the children of earth. She nurtures all of us." The other was equally basic. So what does one do with it? That is the crux issue some people have with Oracles. I can fit the definition into a space in my reflection, like a toddler puzzle, seeing where it will match. Or, I say, "not really" and put it aside. I like oracles with some depth verses the lliteral mic-drop meanings. Off to a certain start with this pack. the Oracle of Mystical Moments has this deck description online: "Visionary collage artist Catrin Welz-Stein intermixes unexpected elements of nature and imagination, creating a sumptuous world where flower spirits and floating castles happily co-exist. Each of the 52 oracle cards captures a magical moment full of delightful surprises and vintage charm. Powerful messages in the 44-page guidebook lead you into discoveries of insight that inspire new ways of looking at life." I am still examining my feelings about this deck
AnomalyTempest Posted September 7, 2022 Posted September 7, 2022 @Wyrdkiss I find I really like looking at those cards even though it's not an art style I would normally choose. I'm interested in seeing more of that deck. The Thoth does run deep and I had heard (read) that a lot but honestly almost all decks do for me. I've been setting a timer to try to learn to read more quickly but I almost always end spending all the time on only part of the reading. Then I have to kinda summarize the rest because my timer runs out. It's the main reason I rarely do a reading with more than 3-5 cards. It seems as though I can just go forever. Because of that, I tend to use big spreads as kind of an extensive study and spend a week or sometimes more on them.

If I keep it, I think it will be because I want to read more of the book, not because I want to look at the cards, which is pretty unusual for me. Look at this for the 5 of coins. On the one hand I'm not sure it hits the core meanings very hard but the added gloss is interesting. I'm trying to understand where the deck creator gets some of it. Here's my whole post for today.

This meaning is very familiar to me. I am curious how you typically see the 5 of Pents? Tarot can express so many different meanings to different people. I often interpret the 5 of Pents as being or feeling outcast or isolated in my self-readings. A sort of communal poverty vs. material poverty. In the original RWS the two figures are outside the stained glass window trudging through the snowy, freezing weather. What would happen if they knocked on the door of that building - would they be given entrance? Are they truly alone and outcast? Maybe they could try reaching out. Thank you for giving us a glimpse into this deck! Oh, I want to add that at first I thought the Queen of Swords was sticking out her tongue! Haha. What is she doing? Eating roses? DesertRat Posted September 8, 2022 Posted September 8, 2022 Looks like I'm going to get a lot done this Fall. I wouldn't say that this is one of my favorite decks, but I am so dazzled by it's beauty that I doubt I would be able to let it go at this point in time. I will hoard it for a while longer.

Here is a draw with a card about direction, momentum, and focus. I enjoyed pulling it more than the others.

I could have highlighted what I found surprising! The bit that seemed new to me was "You may find it difficult to face yourself, and for reasons you do not fully grasp, it is difficult to seek help." I tend to see the 5 of Pentacles as struggling in tough times -- outside of community, or your small group struggling while others are not -- but finding it difficult to face yourself really isn't something I'd thought of before. I have no idea what the Queen of Swords is doing. Perhaps rose petals are dropping from her lips?

Ah yes, this bit is new to me too. I think I must've read past it the first time. Interesting. 🤔
Agnes Posted September 9, 2022 Posted September 9, 2022 After a week with the Star Spinner, I've decided it's not really for me. The booklet is interesting but I just have no desire to ponder the images, and most of them don't really speak to me. That said, a couple made me laugh out loud in this morning's reading, so maybe it would grow on my. My daughter likes the deck a lot, so I'll be passing it on to her. This morning I ran the deck through my newly-arrived "powder putter" and was very pleased by the difference that a fine coat of fanning powder made. So that was interesting. Here's my reading for today -- the longest I've tried with this deck. I found it easy to read and quite on point. Now to choose next week's deck!
