AnomalyTempest Posted October 1, 2022 Posted October 1, 2022 I am in with Robin Scott's Urban Tarot this week. In fact my first reading is already done.
fire cat pickles Posted October 1, 2022 Author Posted October 1, 2022 Got you in... Welcome back @AnomalyTempest 🙂
DesertRat Posted October 1, 2022 Posted October 1, 2022 Happy Friday! I'm in with something a little Halloweeny - the Sugar Skull Tarot this week. Actually it doesn't feel very Halloweeny, but I just got it and it's so pretty... I want to play with it. 😊

I don't have this deck but, Oh, I remember that Devil card from the creator's Kickstarter campaign. It struck me as a very good modern representation of the Devil energy. Interesting that you pulled it straight away. Is the deck new for you or have you used it before?
stephanelli Posted October 1, 2022 Posted October 1, 2022 Hiya, I'd love to start joining in with these groups please 😊 I was thinking I'd start with the Wildwood Tarot this week. For future reference, are oracle decks allowed here?
fire cat pickles Posted October 1, 2022 Author Posted October 1, 2022 Welcome back @DesertRat Welcome to the group @stephanelli!

Having lived in the desert southwest US all my life I am really enjoying the Sugar Skulls tarot, despite its large size and pointy corners. I was never one to fuss much about cardstock and have issues shuffling nearly all tarot decks, except poker size. So I've learned to adapt. I love the desert landscapes, which is something one does not find a lot of in tarot and oracle decks. I believe all the images are night time scenes. It's cool and unique. The sugar skulls are actually fairly inconspicuous in most of the scenes. ❤️ Edited October 1, 2022 by DesertRat Add stuff

Yes! The opening post is non-specific, tarot, oracle, playing cards, etc. Many participants pair tarot/oracle, too. Edited October 1, 2022 by fire cat pickles
MichaelH Posted October 1, 2022 Posted October 1, 2022 I'm in as well. I'll be using the Gilded Tarot Royale which was the third deck I acquired. https://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/cards/gilded-royale/ Absolutely beautiful images and I'm looking forward to working with it

I got this on my birthday last month (actually the end of August. I forgot it's October already.) from my daughter. I think that Devil may be one of my favorites. He reminds me of a friend of mine. I especially love the graffiti on the stall. That Sugar Skull tarot is on my wishlist (physical copy, I never keep online updated. 😛 ) so I'm excited to see it in use. @MichaelH I have the mini version of that deck and it's gorgeous. I keep promising myself I'm going to get the regular size one day.
Bodhiseed Posted October 1, 2022 Posted October 1, 2022 Welcome to the DoW group, @stephanelli! I'm in with the Animal Totem Tarot paired with the Blum/Gern Rune Cards. Thank you Fire Cat!
fire cat pickles Posted October 2, 2022 Author Posted October 2, 2022 You're welcome @Bodhiseed, welcome back!
stephanelli Posted October 2, 2022 Posted October 2, 2022 Thanks for the lovely welcome 🙂 I did my first reading for this week with the Wildwood yesterday. I remember why I was drawn to this deck - I love the style of the imagery and its whole general theming. I've been lazy and just taken a picture of my handwritten journal for this reading 😆 I like to ask for some themes/energies for the week ahead so that's what this reading is! I wasn't going too detailed on the interpretations for this reading, but you can get pretty deep with the Wildwood! I'll probably do a review at the end of the week to see the accuracy of this reading and see what interesting details emerge!
Bodhiseed Posted October 2, 2022 Posted October 2, 2022 This week I'll be using the Animal Totem Tarot, created by Eugene Smith with a companion book by Leeza Robertson; the set was published by Llewellyn. I'll also be using the Blum/Gern Rune Cards created by Ralph Blum and illustrated by Gabrielle Gern with publishing by Connections. Today's draws are the Page of Swords and Isa: Runs with scissors - phrase seen on a t-shirt The Page of Swords as a roadrunner made me chuckle; it's not that he isn't intelligent, it's just that he's impatient. This Page wants to know everything and inform everyone all about it by yesterday. He may hear the tail-end of a conversation then think he has the whole story. Or he may learn a concept and attempt to apply that idea to all without exception. While he is learning, albeit in a helter-skelter sort of way, he's liable to create some chaos as he goes. Isa is a rune that refers to ice, a time of being frozen. Blum suggests the keyword 'standstill,' a good reminder for the Page of Swords to pause for clarity and do a deeper dive on what he thinks he knows. It’s wonderful to have the freedom to continually widen our interests. But like many luxuries, it has an insidious downside. Ever-branching possibilities make it harder for us to explore any given one deeply, because there’s always more “newness” to turn to when the old new thing has reached a difficult or boring part. —David Cain, "Go Deeper Not Wider"
AnomalyTempest Posted October 3, 2022 Posted October 3, 2022 @stephanelli I also take notes in longhand and often while sitting on a yoga mat. 😄 What a joyful reading too. @Bodhiseed I love that roadrunner card. When reading the quote at the end I kept thinking how there is always another deck every week 😂 It's nice to know we can choose the same deck over again when we want to. Today's reading is here

My cats were like, "WTH?" We have no idea what he was trying to do. This is not yesterday's visitor but one from a few years ago: Since @AnomalyTempest also likes my deck, I am posting more cards for everybody's enjoyment.

I guess we can tell ourselves that we're still studying tarot! 😂

We have had bluebirds attack our sideview car mirrors (they were being territorial). We cut off long t-shirt sleeves to put them over our mirrors, which stopped the birds but caused the neighbors to ask a lot of questions! 😂
MichaelH Posted October 3, 2022 Posted October 3, 2022 For a long time I thought roadrunners were only in cartoons....

Rachelcat Posted October 3, 2022 Posted October 3, 2022 More than a day late and a dollar short this week! But I finally made it! @Bodhiseed, I have those Rune Cards! I was about to let them go from my collection, but your using them made me bring it out and look through it, and now I can't say goodbye! Maybe it will be a future deck of the week for me, too! I tried a different deck, and then I tried to start with this one yesterday (Sunday), and my computer crashed. So let’s try it one more time! I’ll probably do a few one-carders to fill out this week. The deck for this week is 2012: Tarot of Ascension. I think it’s fun that Lo Scarabeo was trying to cash in on the 2012 concept/movement, but I don’t think I’ve ever actually read with it. I really like the art: dark in color and maybe in viewpoint, but attractive somehow. And I think this will be a good deck for intuitive reading. The cards seem to tell unknown stories. Ok, interview time! Most important characteristic: Moon The deck presents a fantastic world of illusion, that even has two moons, one benevolent, one calculating, if not evil. It’s a gateway through the waters of the subconscious to a city that might be an illusion or a paradise. The dog and wolf (?) seem confused about whether to go on into the water or go back. Strength: Knave of Chalices A very androgynous main character here. S/he is out in the wide world but paying very close attention to her cup, which seems to glow with meaning. As I posited, the deck is a good one for using my intuition (cups) based on what’s actually shown on the cards (earth for page). Weakness: King of Pentacles The king is in a natural setting but seems a bit distanced from it because of his finery, armor, and seat. It’s a low seat, but he’s not sitting on the ground or on a rock. Staying with my intuition theme, he has gone from an openminded learner to someone who thinks he’s in control of the land and its appearances, so he misses out on what’s not part of his worldview. The weakness is the deck is very different and therefore difficult to read with a system. What I can learn from the deck: 6 Swords I can learn to navigate (see what I did there?) the sometimes swift and turbulent waters of intuition with my more intellectual skills. How I can learn it: XIII This is one of the most profound cards of the deck (of course!). Death pulls aside the curtain of the mundane world to show the vast and glorious infinity beyond. People are running in fear, but from our perspective, we see that the end is nothing to be afraid of. In fact, it’s beautiful. The curtain points out an important visual theme of the deck: Many cards depict stage performances. I can open to intuition by letting go, especially of control, like the king, even though it seems like a loss, it will allow something new and wonderful in. Outcome of our work together: 8 Chalices Here’s one of the stage cards. Perhaps the audience members have left behind preconceptions because they have suspended disbelief in order to understand the meaning of the performance? The open window backstage reinforces that there’s a stage, yes, but the what we think of as the real world is also a stage, and men and women merely players. So the deck will help me take the time to try to see beyond the surface into what lies behind it. Wow, I seem to have a lot to say about this deck! And I’m really enjoying it!
fire cat pickles Posted October 3, 2022 Author Posted October 3, 2022 @Rachelcat I was beginning to worry! Welcome back 😀
