A thread for those who would like to work through their collection of decks, participants choose decks from their collections to work with for the week. Some use one deck, some use two. Some combine methods: Tarot, non-tarot (e.g. oracle), playing cards, or any other divinatory method is welcome. All we ask is that you use at least one tarot or oracle deck.

No collection is too large or too small. The only rules we have are the Tarot, Tea & Me Rules; be respectful of one other. Please join us!

You can drop in and out at anytime—reality and life permitting. New to tarot? Long time reader? Come on in.

  • Please post with your chosen deck for the week.
  • Chat away about your deck, how you're finding it or not, etc., it's all up to you.
  • Participants may either choose to share their readings here in this discussion thread or opt to have their own journal in the Journals Forum and link it here.

Participants:

  1. firecatpickles: Flornoy's Noblet TdM
  2. Bodhiseed: Tarot of the Sidhe paired with the Green Man Tree Oracle

I'd like to join but does mean I can't just use an oracle deck on its own anymore?

This week I was intending to work with The Moon Oracle deck.

Well last week was a bust, tarot-wise. I will try this week with my fun and happy Rainbow Unicorns tarot deck, which makes me smile every time I see it because it's so dang cute and reminds me of the early 80's.

I'll change it. I thought since it was a tarot subforum it was a requirement.  You're the moderator! Feel free to use "just" an oracle 😀

That is a fair point.

We allow any and all decks in the journals and daily draws section which is in the tarot subforum so I think it's fine here personally 🙂

We don't really have a section where tarot and oracle decks overlap unfortunately!

I think the main requirement should be that its a deck of cards of some description. (So, for example, someone couldn't join in this thread with a 'junk oracle' on its own, but it could be paired with a deck of some description.)

Oh, wow, I've been doing oracles sometimes and not even noticing.  So much for following the rules!  I'll pay better attention in the future, I promise.  But now that oracles are allowed, I guess I'm good!

Well, I have three more new decks from NWTS, plus I was holding onto a demon deck for spooky time, but I haven’t received the matching angels deck, so I can hold off on that for a while longer.

But all bets are off because I got the Star Trek Tarots, and I want to play with them and share them with you right away!  Even though I’m still just at the beginning of re-watching all the episodes.  Many thanks to @Anabiyeni for alerting me to their existence in the postman thread!

Official names are Star Trek Tarot and Star Trek Tarot the Animated Series Mini-Deck.  (It’s not what we call a mini deck; it’s a majors-only deck.) On sale now by Telekiad.

The brief story as I understand it is that some trekkies realized that there are 78 Original Series episodes (not including the unaired pilot) and 22 Animated Series episodes.  What a coincidence!  (Or is it?)  So they went all in on tarot to attribute episodes to cards.  A little different than the usual “characters for majors and courts, incidents for minors” fandom attributions.  (As I mentioned in the postman thread, I was SO disappointed with the Star Trek: The Next Generation Tarot by Insight Editions that I put it straight into my giveaway pile after looking through it once . . .)

The art is really good (for the Star Trek deck.  The Animated Series artwork is the original 70s cartoon art.)  The book is also very good, with a paragraph about the meaning of the card and then a synopsis of the episode, including bolded names of the characters depicted in the card. The book also has an accurate history of tarot, rules for existing tarot games, and spreads.

Similar to gaming cards, the cards have lots of info on the face:  Upright and reversed keywords, Golden Dawn element, Astro, and kabbalah attributions, NSEW, the filming order of the episode, the in-world star date, and the actual air date.  (All this information is in a list in the book too.)  Suit indexes are silhouettes of ships:  majors, Enterprise; rods, Fesarius; cups, Romulan; blades, Klingon, and coins, Tholian.  All this, and the titles of the card, deck, and episode, all without seeming cluttered!  That’s good design.  There are two extra cards for the pilot episode.

The backs match, so I’ll probably be shuffling the decks together at some point.  The box for the “mini-deck” has a lift in it so it fits only 22 cards but is the same size as the other box.  Full deck has silver stripes, mini has gold.

The boxes aren’t really a different color.  My lighting is terrible.

And on to the interviews!

2109367821_Saturday2.thumb.jpg.50c64e126281fbb338f29d4299840eeb.jpg

Most important characteristic:  The Magician, Catspaw

A good card to start with!  I don’t know the episode, so I’m going with the keyword.  This deck is a labor of love, but it’s also a labor of skill and detail.  You can tell how much work went into it, and it shows not just as work but as something very well done.  But it’s all about a fictional world, so there’s still the element of trickery and sleight of hand, which I think works with this illustration.

Strength:  Four of Blades, The Lights of Zetar

Alien lights glommed onto a crewwoman.  Once she was isolated for a while, they left her.  The deck is for insiders only.  We know who we are, even though there might not be many of us.

Weakness:  The Empress, Friday’s Child

There’s a weakness in how the series treats women.  Even though it was progressive for its time, it still showed some strange ideas of the relations of the sexes, etc.  Everything is a product of its time, whether it’s going along with the status quo or rebelling against it.

What the deck can teach me:  Four of Cups, Dagger of the Mind

Have to read the book for this synopsis.  A device alters the personality and memories of prisoners.  Kirk investigates and almost succumbs to it.  Its creator is subjected to it and dies after it empties his mind completely.  Hmm, the deck can teach me to disconnect from preconceived feelings and ideas.  Or how not to be so apathetic!

How I can learn it:  The Aliens, The Cage

This is the unaired pilot in which aliens want to keep Kirk in a zoo to mate with a human woman they rescued from a wreck years before.  When they realize humans would rather die than be caged, they let him go.  The index for the two extra cards are the shuttlecraft Galileo, and the attributions for this card are all the Hebrew letters.  Not caring is just as much of a trap as caring too much.

Outcome of our work together:  The Tower, The Doomsday Machine

Uh oh!  Working with this deck will spoil me for all other theme decks!  That’s my story and I’m sticking to it!

Now for the Animated Series:

665727287_Saturday3.thumb.jpg.398b15e927769574ec8141b7b3f5ecb8.jpg

Strength:  The Emperor, The Infinite Vulcan

(I fell asleep watching this one!)  A giant creates a giant version of Spock.  The deck is authoritative.  It knows its stuff and we just play along!

Weakness:  The Empress, The Lorelei Signal

Same weakness!  A planet of women lure men to the planet.  But they change their ways and are rescued.  Or something.  Same weakness.  The stories have a strange approach to relations between the sexes and about women in general.

What can I learn from deck:  Judgement, Bem

I haven’t seen this one, but it sure looks interesting!  I can learn to see tarot majors in a different, higher way.

Outcome of our work together:  Strength, The Slaver Weapon

Haven’t seen this one either.  Is the cat person the slaver or the savior?  I like how his tail is encased in his spacesuit, as it should be.  Once I watch all the episodes, I’ll feel strong and confident to read with these cards.  How’s that?

Well, that was fun!  I look forward to more!  And I definitely have to continue my binge watching!

Oh, no @Rachelcat Oracles are allowed... It was an oversight on my part. They have been allowed the whole time. See the above discussion!

Welcome back everyone. It's been a busy week for me, been pulled in many directions (48 -hour work week and not much sleep 🤑)

This week I'll be using the Tarot of the Sidhe, created by Emily Carding and published by Schiffer. I'll also be using the Green Man Tree Oracle, created by John Matthews and Will Worthington with Connections as its publisher. Today's draws are Dreamer Four (Four of Swords) and Spindle:

dreamer%20four.jpg  spindle_0002.jpg
In stillness comes the Dream renewed,
With hope and healing her soul's imbued.
Her arms outstretched, she's whole once more,
What once was lost has been restored.

The Four of Swords is a reminder that no matter how resilient we think we are, when our load increases, there must be an equal response of self-care. The mind will try to tell us that rest is the last thing we need to do right now, but that is just a conditioned reaction that will grind us down if we listen to it. The Spindle's hard wood was used in the past for making spindles for wool-spinning. This small tree asks: "What has come unraveled? What should be united to make it stronger and more durable?" The mind must not forget the body's needs as the two are dependent on each other. Exhaustion of either serves neither one.

Yikes!  I forgot to put them in the full moon thread, so I'll put this link there, too!

French Cross with Oswald Wirth deck from Lo Scarabeo

Interpretation and as always comments welcom:

This spread shows 2 polarities: Papesse & Pape + Sun & Moon

Male & female polarities ... yet this isn't a sexual or romantic topic.

Hmmm.

Question:

My on-going dilemma from last week. An ex-friend got appointed as president of the organization where I've been serving as secretary for 5 years. This person made the job hellish with micro-managing. I would have quit already but was afraid to disappoint my friends within the organization.

My term ends in December and I decided to ask NOT to be appointed for another. I drew cards to make sure the organization will be ok without me (I'm the only person with computer/tech skills atm).

1. Affirming / The way that's open: Papesse and 8 cups. No one knows what to do when i leave. But also on a spiritual level, very positive for both myself and the organization. Possibly I can mentor or help someone else even tho I leave.

2. Denying / The way that's closed:  Le pape and King Wands. We're meeting tomorrow with the past president, treasurer, president (the ex-friend) and myself. Le Pape I see as the ex president who might try to get us to resolve our issues to keep me as secretary. But I'm waaaay past that. King Wands is my wise and wonderful partner who advised that it's best for the organization if I withdraw gracefully ... not blame anyone ... but simply stress that I have too much other work (true) and offer to take a different role where I might be of service some other way.

3. The discussion: Moon and 9 Cups. A lot of Lunar energy with Priestess and Moon! Evokes hidden vicious competition between females ... New president feels insecure in a new role and I'm very secure in an old role. It's her wish come true to be president. Possibly she felt she had to assert dominance by micro managing?

4; Judgement / Verdict / Outcome: Sun and 6 swords. I will leave and things will be ok. The sun will shine as I leave this ish behind. The organization will be ok. They will get someone else to help with their tech & computer issues.

5: Synthesis:  Judgement and 3 wands. Major shake-up, major change ... for both myself and the organization. 3 people will emerge to deal with it. There are 2 polarities and then a 3 which shows some kind of resolution or 3rd force that moves in a new direction.

I feel better about leaving at the end of my term (December). I don't want the organization to tank ... but it looks like they'll get tech help from somewhere else. Leaving gracefully is best for both myself and the organization.

I hope the spread is accurate but I won't know for some months. It will be good to look back and see if the spread was right.

Thanks to @fire cat pickles for maintaining this thread. I appreciate the motivation to work with different decks instead of staying always with the comfort zone };>

As a life-long Trekkie I love this. 78 original episodes - definitely NOT a coincidence. 😄

And now everybody's favorite - Rainbow Unicorns! Those horns are so versatile.

I always complain about the Tarot of Pagan Cats because it shows cats carrying things with their tails, which doesn't ever happen.  (Maybe it should have been pagan monkeys instead?)  But who knew unicorn horns were so handy?!

These unicorns are just a sweet and simple as their name implies!

@Rachelcat I'm so happy the Trouble with Tribbles showed up in your spread!  😁 One of the most notorious OG Star Trek episodes and definitely one of my favs.

And now...more Unicorns! Too much focus on materialism can lead to feelings of oppression and defeat. A more balanced lifestyle makes for a happy Unicorn. Thank you, Tarot, for this much needed reminder.

@DesertRat, more on tribbles:  I just googled to get the date:  November 4, 1996 (man, I'm old!) was the air date of Deep Space Nine's Trials and Tribble-ations episode.  As a promotion, downtown DC (and I assume other cities) people were on the street giving out tribbles!  Just balls of synthetic fur, but so fun!  I got two, one for me and one for my son, who was my trekkie partner then, and still is.  I wonder what ever happened to them?  At least they didn't reproduce!

Here's my reading for today.  Not sure if I'll stick with Star Trek or move on to something else tomorrow.  See you then either way!
