A thread for those who would like to work through their collection of decks, participants choose decks from their collections to work with for the week. Some use one deck, some use two. Some combine methods: Tarot, non-tarot (e.g. oracle), playing cards, or any other divinatory method is welcome. All we ask is that you use at least one tarot or oracle deck.

No collection is too large or too small. The only rules we have are the Tarot, Tea & Me Rules; be respectful of one other. Please join us!

  • Please post with your choice of deck(s) for the week
  • Chat away about your deck, how you're finding it (or not), etc., it's all up to you
  • Participants may either choose to share their readings here in this discussion thread or opt to have their own journal in the Journals Forum and link it here
  • Yet others may even have an offline journal in paper & pencil/pen form

Share as often, as much, or as little as you like. You can drop in and out at anytime—reality and life permitting. New to tarot? Long time reader? Come on in

Thank you for the thread, @fire cat pickles 💐

I'm in with Tabula Mundi Tarot and Aleister Crowley Thoth Tarot Cards.

I'm using a 1973 Llewellyn printing of the Thoth Tarot (White Box B). I love the whispery smooth texture of the old matte card stock with its inconsistent colors, somewhat blurry images, suit titles printed over the keywords, and old paper smell in the box. Also, the caliph card from this deck was hung on display with a thumb-tack sometime during the past 50 years, which I love.  Can't remember for sure when and where this deck found me, but I imagine it happened in a local used bookstore about 22 years ago. There was a time when I thought I might keep a journal of such details in case I ever forgot. But why go to all that trouble? I'll never forget!

Tabula Mundi Tarot has been in my collection for several years now, and shame on me, I haven't given it much love at all, despite its incredible breathtaking beauty. I finally ordered the companion guide, "Book M: Liber Mundi" a couple of days ago. Hoping it will arrive by Monday.

@Madame Squee!!! You're back! :dancing-cat:

I'm sticking with the Roots of Asia and the Mahjongg Oracle for now, but will change over to the New Liminal Tarot and the State by State Playing Cards next week.

The Tarot Familiars fell into my hands this morning and so I am sticking with that for this week.

A daily draw of

Problem    Solution   Outcome

Death     Justice         The Lovers

spoke exactly to the heart of a worrisome problem...

Hi and hugs to you too, Fire Cat!

Hi, crew!  Still adjusting to the new dates!  So we're starting weeks on Thursdays?  I'll get with the program this week, I promise!  In the meantime, I'll be using the third Studio Artemy deck I got, Ethereal Orbs Oracle Deck.  It’s based on the 28 mansions of the moon plus 16 fixed stars.  The cards have an Arabic art design with the name, keywords, and text.  The stars also have a sigil.  The texts are not quite affirmations, more like exhortations or wise sayings.

The mansions of the moon are not the daily moon phases, but are instead sections of the zodiac, like the signs, only divided into 28 instead of 12.  The author says the information for the mansions comes from Picatrix and Agrippa, for the fixed stars from Agrippa.  She further mentions that some of the traditional meanings are negative, and she has worked with those to turn them to more positive messages.  (The booklet is a pdf made available after purchase.)

So let’s see how I do with this “wordy” oracle!  I’m not sure how a regular spread will work, but let’s try a short interview.

All cards have Saturn, and 3 have Mars.  2 stars and 2 mansions.

What is your most important characteristic?  Atlas, Guidance and Discovery

Well, that’s good.  The deck will help me figure out a way to go, and help me trust myself to know where that is.  Taurus, Venus, and Saturn:  I can understand my earthly desires and their limitations.

What is your strength?  1. Alnath, Roots and Foundations

First mansion for first reading!  The deck’s strength is it’s traditional and teaches where its ideas come from.

What is your weakness?  Alkaid, Patience and Perseverance

The bad news is it will take time to learn all of it!  Mars and Virgo:  It takes effort to put into practice.

What will be the outcome of our work together?  16. Azubene, Balance and Wealth

Text says just ask for what you want.  So maybe I’ll try to use it for magic??!!  Probably not, but the deck would be good for that.  Mars and Saturn:  take action to push against limits.

Interesting!  On to today's (in my journal thread).

Decks: Thoth Tarot Cards by Aleister Crowley and Tabula Mundi Tarot (M.M. Meleen)

I've been having trouble getting into my deck of the week study, so I pulled three cards and looked at the spread.

At a glance, I can see the trouble in the Five of Wands being resolved in the Princess of Disks, followed by an especially satisfactory conclusion in the Ten of Cups. Once that was determined, I started the process of sorting through the elements shown in these cards that brought me along to that conclusion.

First, the pyramidical shape of the volcano in the first card is repeated in the second card (in the distance, behind the saplings) and three times in the third card. The continuous repetition of this pattern gives me the impression that I will finish my study if I start it.

The horns that appear on the figures in the first two cards also caught my attention. The headdress worn by  the Princess shows larger and more elaborate horns than those appearing in the Five of Wands, which I take as a demonstration of development and progress.  Also, it occurs to me that the Wands depicted in the Five are showing up behind the Princess of Disks in an arrangement that suits her purpose -- another sign of development and progress.

Further study on the central card seems to show that the Princess of Disks is drawing energy up into her staff from an unseen pool of light situated somewhere below her. (It could even be the same light generated by the pool of lava seen in the Five of Wands. The position of the Princess even mirrors that of the figure in the Five of Wands.) I feel like the message here is to use the energy which has been generated by the "Strife" occurring in the Five of Wands. Don't let it go to waste.

Then, I realize that the pattern in the disk held by the Princess is repeated in the blossoms of the Ten of Cups -- in the pyramidal pile of 10 and the one held by the griffon -- which actually points towards the future. Also, I notice two elements in the Five of Wands that seem to reappear in the Ten of Cups. Small wings on the entity in the Five transform into the griffon's massive wingspread in the Ten. Plus, the winding path of the lava flow is replicated in some respect by the fountain of water flowing from blossom to blossom.

Finally, I find it interesting that the step pyramid depicted in the Ten of Cups is a human construction, rather than a force of nature as shown in the first two cards. That gives me the feeling that I can successfully devise a course of study that I can continue to build on.

PS: Of course, there is so much more to be studied in these three cards, like the round object in the Five of Wands being repeated in the shape of the disk and the blossoms, not to mention the symbolic meaning of pyramids, staves, scythes and griffons! The colors also intrigue me, especially the red in the Ten Cups.
