A thread for those who would like to work through their collection of decks, participants choose decks from their collections to work with for the week. Some use one deck, others use two or more. Some combine methods: Tarot, non-tarot (e.g. oracle), playing cards, or any other divinatory method is welcome. All we ask is that you use at least one tarot or oracle deck.

No collection is too large or too small. The only rules we have are the Tarot, Tea & Me Rules; Be respectful of one other. Please join us!

  • Please post with your choice of deck(s) for the week
  • Chat away about your deck, how you're finding it (or not), etc., it's all up to you
  • Participants may either choose to share their readings here in this discussion thread or opt to have their own journal in the Journals Forum and link it here
  • Yet others may even have an offline journal in paper & pencil/pen form

Share as often, as much, or as little as you like. You can drop in and out at anytime—reality and life permitting. New to tarot? Long time reader? Come on in!

I'm in this time. Been a while and I've been procrastinating joining in even though I'm still lurking around the forums. I'll be using Trionfi Della Luna and the Garden of Lucid Daydreams this week.

Thank you for keeping our little group going, Fire cat! And welcome back, @AnomalyTempest.

This week I'll be using Poppy Palin's Waking the Wild Spirit tarot deck, published by Llewellyn, along with her companion book, Stories of the Wild Spirit, published by Slippery Jacks Press. I'll also be drawing from Saltwater Reading Cards, created by Laura Bowen and published by Rockpool Publishing. Today's cards are the Eight of Air (Swords) and Dugong:

People are trapped in history and history is trapped in them.
~James Baldwin

Our culture, our friends and family and our experiences shape the way we think and what we believe. Even when the world has changed, when life has opened other doors, we can still stay inside that cage of ideas and beliefs. It takes practice to change our mind, to see that although the past was real, it is not the present. The Dugong's (sea cow's) large size can mislead people; it is actually a gentle, slow-moving mammal that feeds on grass in lagoons and bays. It offers a reminder that appearances aren't always what they seem. Difficult or stressful circumstances might send us chasing our next pleasurable distraction, yet even tough situations can often be altered if we don't try to avoid them. As James Baldwin said,  “Not everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can be changed until it is faced.”

Welcome to the group @AnomalyTempest!

The DoW Group is a fun and enlightening way to share how your decks can work for others, to highlight new or unique reading techniques and spreads, and perhaps to introduce new decks for other members.

Welcome back @Bodhiseed 🙂

Apologies for the long post ahead.  I got carried away this week!  Hi, crew!  Cool decks so far!

This week was going to be a lovely text-based Kickstarter, Feel Your Chakras Oracle by Andi Taylor, Metaphysics Made Easy, but I can’t figure out how I would read with it.  It has affirmations and anti-affirmations(?) for balanced, overactive, and underactive chakras.  I think it would be strange to randomly choose possibly negative affirmations and try to work with them . . . .  So I’m skipping the deck until I come up with a way to read with it.

In the meantime, I’ll be using more of my new purchases.  This week will be Crystal Tarot by Elisabetta Trevisan.  It’s a reprint (and a repurchase for me) of an older Lo Scarabeo deck with a prettier back (and I think brighter colors).  The older version booklet said if I remember correctly that the art was painted on glass?  The newer booklet just says the art is inspired by Klimt and the Vienna Succession art movement.

The most interesting thing tarot-wise (besides the clever borders) is that the pips are based on the Eude Picard/Spanish school/El Gran Tarot Esoterico deck.  Mostly.  It’s like the artist got so far on the Picard train and then jumped off for some of the cards and simply repeated previous art with some extra suit symbols.  Here are some comparisons with El Gran Tarot Esoterico:

Adding to the challenge of the pips is that it looks like the suit attributions are cups=air and swords=water (along with the more familiar wands=fire and pentacles=earth).  So wish me luck with that!  But it’s pretty!  I might use it as a majors-only, or majors + courts + aces.  Maybe I’ll try that this week if the pips get too weird for me!

Wash, shuffle, interview!

What is your most important characteristic?  5 Chalices

So should I use air for cups?  Well, air or water, the meaning is about the same:  The deck is disappointing, either emotionally or intellectually.  It has a patina of esotericism with the pentagram, but it’s ultimately empty, like the cups.

What is your strength?  9 Chalices

I really shuffled, I swear!  The upper right cup has an eye on it.  Ok, air for cups.  The deck is personal, and it can bring inner worries or fear out in the open.

What is your weakness?  7 Chalices

A side-by-side example of the cards being the same with two more cups added/removed.  But it can also be deceptive or manipulative.  So beware of any insights here.

What can I learn from you?  3 Pentacles

Virgo above ground, Taurus and Capricorn below.  The deck can teach me about physicality and resources.  And the difference between appearances and reality when it comes to finances and health.

How can I learn it?  The Hierophant

By studying traditional learning.  Like none of it (religion and woo) is true, but it’s still knowledge.  Of what people believe or used to believe, which can help me understand people and tradition.

What will be the outcome of our work together?  The Devil

This is a properly scary and mysterious devil.  But also beautiful.  Oh, that’s the outcome!  I will end up thinking the deck is beautiful but unusable.

We’ll see about that!

@Rachelcat, I didn't realize how much the Crystal replicates the El Gran Tarot Esoterico! It is such a lovely deck and makes me regret giving mine away. I think I remember reading Cups and Swords as usual, regardless of the elemental switch - it was a challenge though!

@fire cat pickles I can't believe its going to be OCTOBER soon ... EEEEEK.

Please put me down for Triunfi della Luna the PIP deck (I did Illustrated Minors last week. I have both)

I think I may like the Pip deck better ... we shall see.

Hello fellow Trionfi della Luna fan. Which version? I read Illustrated Pips last week. Going with the original pip deck this week.

Anyway, looking forward to seeing your spread/s.

I am a fan of all the Valenza decks. The pips are non scenic. I want to edge the deck but the backs are blue while the fronts are more muted colors so I haven't decided yet what color  I want to use. Here's a simple daily reading.

Thinking:  Ten of Cups

Since my husband died, I've been thinking a lot about what I want to do and where I want to be. What's going to truly put me in my happy place? I'm in a pretty good position to make my life what and where I want it.

Feeling: Six of Coins

I spent so much time in the past two years care taking for other people (Mom, Dad, Husband), that I kind of just pushed my needs aside. I feel selfish now, putting myself first. It seems everyone has a plan for me, but me.

Doing: Nine of Coins

I have some financial security and I know I will be moving when my lease is up. I haven't decided exactly where but I can pretty much go anywhere I want. I"m thinking about just putting my things in storage and traveling for a while to see where I really want to be. I have family all over the country trying to talk me to moving where they are so just visiting everyone can help me figure out where I want to plant my garden, so to speak.

Advice: 7 Devour (Garden of Lucid Daydreams)

The struggle is real. I'm fighting against all the negative self talk and things that have kept me locked into a rigid system. I have no doubt I will prevail, but now is definitely not the time to ease up. Nor should let myself be swallowed up by other people's desires.

I have both versions of Triunfi della Luna (scenic and non-scenic pips) + Eduord Dotti. I LOVE these decks. I never could connect with Deviant Moon although I respect the art work and creative vision. Maybe a bronze or antique gold to edge your cards? LOL I have grand plans about deck mods which I never get round to doing *sigh*.

Trionfi della Luna pips version - Deck interview

IMG_6602.thumb.jpg.0ff33ce1c7570f3a9ecb6132a1b91154.jpg

Anastasia's adaptation from The New Deck Jewel Spread

1.     Energy: Describes the deck’s essence / overall vibe = Page cups

This deck force feeds you emotions ... until you see through the delusions or grow up.

2.     Timing: Why has the deck come to me now? / Why do I feel drawn to this deck now? = 9 swords

I have terrible anxiety about emotions and dealing with other ppl just now. I don't like emotions. I don't like my own and I don't like other people's.

Couldn't we all just be logical?

3.     Teaching: What can the deck teach me? What areas will it help me explore? = 4 coins

Don't understand this. My boundaries? It could help me explore and set emotional boundaries? I'll go with that.

4.     Challenge: How will the deck challenge me? What might I find difficult to work with? = 2 pents

The deck is emotive but also very practical. It will challenge me to juggle these two aspects ... to balance them.

5.     Limits: What areas are NOT this deck's expertise? For what topics should I read a different deck? = Ace Cups

This deck is not for romantic readings. I likely won't use it for clients as they often want relationship topics.

6.     Grace: In what areas will the deck and I organically connect and flow together? = Judgement

This is a pretty intense judgement card. Valenza has borrowed imagery from the Vacchetta Devil ... which feels confusing to me.

Radical transformation. Burning the rotting corpses of old dead karmas or old stories. Not allowing MYSELF to be devoured by dead things.

7.     Whisper: the deck’s message / guidance for this moment = Justice

Justice + Judgement form a legal yoga ... but in this case I'll ignore it as this is a deck interview (???).

Keep my karma balanced. See my own faults but also the faults of others. Be scrupulously fair to both myself and others. She balances like 2 coins. She has a sword and armor to maintain and enforce boundaries like 4 coins.

Summary: This deck is pretty similar to the Illustrated Pips version. This one is a bit more down to earth and practical. Neither deck is for clients.

4 coins was a repeater ... but it meant different things as the scenic pip had imagery that the non-scenic pip didn't.
