@gregory @Rodney and others on here that migrated from AT.  Do any of you still have photos of your collections?  Sometimes people don’t realize just how passionate tarot people can be.  It seems that I once remember reading some post in the middle of the night about gregory and Kaplan (RIP) competing for some deck on eBay.  It was eons ago now.

I tried to take a panoramic photo earlier this year but could only capture about 300 degrees if memory serves.  Maybe over the holidays I'll take new pics.

I have pix of my storage in the main room; not of the rest. No way would I attempt to take pix of the DECKS. Here are some - the last is as it is now - I had to add the black IKEA cabinets... then it all got worse...

 

I bid ONCE on a deck that Kaplan won. When I saw him among the bidders, I didn't bother to bid again. I still remember the slugging out between him and LoS once. (LoS won. Kaplan was not happy and tried to get them to sell on to him.) I did also bid on a couple from his collection - I didn't win.

Wow, you've got a room full of decks? You must have hundreds of decks I don't know how many decks I'll end up collecting. I love the artwork mostly. Each deck is like a art gallery in your pocket.

2949, + 6 in book form. And as I say - they have spilled out of that room. And yes - loads and loads of art galleries.

That's an impressive skill. 🤣 I want to learn how to do things in the real world while sleeping. too. Think of the things you could accomplish.

After 12/15 I'm off work for 2.5 weeks. I'll see what I can do about taking pics then.

 

In no particular order other than the order in which I thought of them:

• Transparent Tarot (double deck containing two publisher's cards that I had the artist sign
• Original Mythic Tarot
• Ancient Egyptian Tarot
• Tarot of Oppositions
• Garden of Priapus/Tarocco Erotico dei Giardini di Priapo
• 2012 Tarot of Ascension
• Bosch Tarot (LoS)

I'm sure there are others, but those come immediately to mind.

🤯@gregory only has about 800 more decks than I do! I believe she generally only has one copy or edition of a deck where I have multiple copies and editions, so I'd guess she has 1000-1100 more individual/unique decks than I do.

I have a FEW duplicates so that I have some to work with in Canada. 19 of them - I just checked. And I have - for instance - a LOT of Thoths because of the different printings etc,

Here's my collection to date. Oracle cards are in the bottom right.  100+ decks and counting.  I love discovering new and beautiful Tarot Decks and  Oracle Cards.

This would make me crazy b/c I can't SEE them all.

I know other people aren't as adamant as I am ... sometimes I'm reading for a client and I need to change decks ... I let my eyes wander over the entire collection and grab the one that grabs me. Since the client has paid for a certain amount of time [usually 45 mins or an hour] this process must happen quickly.

That being said ... we're mid-move. So I will share my collection when I crack the nut of HOW to display all decks in the tiny house 😉

@Misterei it is difficult to finds the decks I want to find when I want to.  I am going to have to come up with a better system in the future.

So do I, @Tom!  Isn't it fun.  You have a lovely dedicated place to store them.  I live in a very small house.  My decks live in baskets and boxes right now.  I'm hoping to buy more boxes (these are decorative hand crafted boxes made of woven plant material here in Bali).  Thanks for sharing.

@Natural Mystic Guide thank you, the cabinet works for me and I still have the drawer to store stuff in.  Many of my decks are either wrapped in a silky material or in tarot bags or wooden boxes. I think in the future I will catalogue all the decks as to what shelf they are on, left, middle or right so I can more readily pull the ones I want to look at or use. It's not practical for me to have them all showing at the same time. 

 

I learned the belief that cards needed to be protected by cloth or a wood box or a bag.  Now I think they're fine on my shelves without being wrapped. The cabinet is protective enough and I have some small quartz crystals on my shelves as well.

 

If I were taking them somewhere I'd use a tarot bag or box for stuff keeping

I'm going to experiment with putting risers on my shelves and layers of display.

Layers might work for your cabinet???

Depending your vertical space put the tall decks in back upright so you can identify them ... then put shorter decks in front of those ... then if there's room you can even put a few smaller decks flat in front of both layers.

I am going to experiment with using blocks of wood to make a back layer that's higher, then a front layer that's lower, then small decks lying flat.

It's like a concert or sports seating. The back seats are higher and the people in front are sitting on the floor };>

This is my current collection of decks and books as of this evening. I have not used my cards since mid-2020, shortly after moving during the pandemic, and have only just recently felt the call to go through my “collection” and see whether the decks and books I had previously set aside to rehome would be joined by any others, or perhaps (*gasp*) it would be all of them?

 

In the end, it is not quite so dramatic as all that, but there are still nine decks (4 of which are my husband’s) that are quite ready to find a new home. The books, I’m still going back and forth on. After the time away, and keeping in mind I’m a non-divinatory sort, just using the decks as prompts for my journaling, or mental health work (primarily choosing among face up cards to represent something), I think I’m starting to grasp what will work best for me. This comes at the same time as realizing what sort of mental health work would work well for me, and what is very much best avoided.

 

I am quite happy to be back. (And yes, all that said, there is currently a deck sitting in my Amazon shopping cart…)

 

@Misterei, that’s a great idea. I will probably implement something similar once I have everything settled. I have a couple decks that don’t have boxes or tins, so I’d like to figure out something a little more appealing for them as well. It certainly was much nicer to see all my decks laid out facing me, rather than all tucked in the bookcase like books, easily overlooked.

@moonglow I like the visual look of your layered display ... LOL only it would be hard to grab a deck from the bottom if you're in a hurry!

My decks that live in pouches [no box] I usually lay flat in the "front row". I only have a few in pouches ... so I know what they are.

Friday is my big move day. I'm already sleeping at the new house and getting things set up ... but I miss my cards and can't wait to be reunited with them!

Yes, they were quite precariously placed — especially considering our cat! — but it really did help to see them all together while I was trying to decide which were staying and which were going. Otherwise, as I said, they’re a bit tucked away and hard to see. Out of sight, out of mind, as they say, so hopefully I will have a little nicer setup soon for my small set of remaining decks.

I definitely need to get a couple pouches as well. Or borrow a sewing machine from the library and cobble something together. The Mythic Tarot is wrapped in the reading cloth it came with, and my Mixed Emotions cards are in the organza bag they came with, so it’s not like I can’t tell what they are, I’d just like them to have something a little… more. I also want to do something with the Llewellyn. That deck needs a serious trim and a pouch if it’s going to stay. I’m just terrified of wrecking it. 😭

No ... *I* have collection envy. I've moved into a tiny-ish house and must majorly downsize my whole life ... if I had a nice tiny collection like yours ... I wouldn't have to wrack my brain figuring out how to display the decks. Minimal is good. 😇

I had only 1 deck for my first 15 years. Then only 2 decks for another 10 years ... that's 25 years of being into tarot before i started collecting ... and I was actually fine with it.
