fire cat pickles Posted September 23, 2024 Author Posted September 23, 2024 I'm really enjoying the Tyldwick. I think this may be the one for a while 😀
Hemera Posted September 23, 2024 Posted September 23, 2024 I've never tried this circle, but I have often been eyeing this with curiosity. What if I take a deep breath and jump right in? *jumps* I'm in with Lo Scarabeo Mermaid Tarot (2nd edition). I love the deck but it hasn't been giving any sensible readings recently. So, maybe it's time to take a closer look.
fire cat pickles Posted September 23, 2024 Author Posted September 23, 2024 Welcome to the group @Hemera! The DoW Group is a fun and enlightening way to share how your decks can work for others, to highlight new or unique reading techniques and spreads, and perhaps to introduce new decks for other members. Hope you enjoy your time with us here 😊
Bodhiseed Posted September 23, 2024 Posted September 23, 2024 Welcome to the DoW group, @Hemera! Thanks for the new thread, Fire cat. I'm glad you're enjoying the Tyldwick! I'm in this week with the Wild Unknown paired with the Pictish Oracle. The step that we are on is only a step to the next place... ― Craig D. Lounsbrough There are times in life when it feels like we've been on permanent pause, waiting on the same step for a long time. There is no going or coming, simply a state of stasis. The sticks above remind me of a little teepee of wood that you arrange for a campfire. Nothing happens without the addition of fire, but it looks like lightning has arrived to get things going. We're about to start taking some quick steps, maybe two at a time. Though the Arch resembles a horseshoe, there is no archaeological evidence that Pictish horses were shod. Because it shows up in eleven stones with various designs, it is likely a torc, a metal neck ring that symbolized strength, power, or nobility. It is reassurance that we've got what it takes to get through this next phase when things start moving.
fire cat pickles Posted September 23, 2024 Author Posted September 23, 2024 Welcome back @Bodhiseed! I am looking forward to using your inputs in thr Tyldwick Study subforum as a guide...
PathWalker Posted September 23, 2024 Posted September 23, 2024 For me it's Sacred Circle by Anna Franklin this week http://www.annafranklin.co.uk/page66.html
fire cat pickles Posted September 23, 2024 Author Posted September 23, 2024 Welcome back @PathWalker 😀
Rachelcat Posted September 23, 2024 Posted September 23, 2024 Hi all! Another good group this week! Another week, another new deck for me! (It's a sickness at this point.) This week will be Deadly Apothecary Oracle: Poisonous Plants as Guides and Healers, author and artist Priestess Moon, Rockpool. (She’s also the creator of the quirky Enchanted Unicorn Oracle and the related Making Magick mini cards.) 36 numbered cards with plant names and keywords. 4 of the cards are mushrooms, which technically aren’t plants but fungi (different scientific kingdom). It also includes some common plants/flowers that I didn’t know are poisonous, along with cannabis and tobacco. The illustrations personify the plants as women. I usually avoid a-woman-on-each-card-portraying-a-keyword decks, but the quirky art makes this deck an exception. Background of cards is black. Backs and edges are red for danger. Booklet has plant info, including traditional, medicinal, and magical uses, and then two sections: “The Poison” describing a negative personality or life experience and “The Antidote” with the positive side of that and advice for it. Let’s give it a try with the shortened interview. What is your strength? Narcissus, Walk away Bulbs are poisonous, but are being tested as a possible Alzheimer’s treatment. The best way to deal with a narcissist is to walk away. The deck gives practical advice for dealing with toxic behaviors (as well as plants). Your weakness? Cherry laurel, Peacekeeper The leaves are the poisonous part. This is about always giving in to keep the peace no matter what and how sometimes you have to stand up for yourself instead. The advice might be too general. Sometimes it’s better to keep the peace than fight! What can I learn from you? Holly, Allow wealth The berries are poisonous! As you know, evergreen holly is brought inside at Yule to symbolize/encourage luck and prosperity in the darkest part of the year. The booklet talks about envy of others’ prosperity and criticizing how others use their finances. It’s easy to turn that around by being rejoicing in our own good fortune and that of others. The lesson is we can enjoy life with possessions and treats without endangering our prosperity. I like that lesson! What will be the outcome of our work together? Black bryony, Catharsis Roots were used topically to treat bruises and to purge negative energy. Booklet says it’s about dealing with anger properly: express it, emphasize boundaries, and don’t let it build up and cause overreaction or other issues. The deck’s focus on negative energy and how to deal with it will be a help to me. Interesting! We’ll see how it goes this week!
Ferrea Posted September 24, 2024 Posted September 24, 2024 I'm in this week too! I want to further study La Corte dei Tarocchi, a deck I'm relatively new to.
fire cat pickles Posted September 24, 2024 Author Posted September 24, 2024 Welcome to the group @Ferrea! Hope you enjoy your stay here 🙂 I have the La Corte dei Tarocchi. I used it as my DoW a while back. Let us know how you find it!
Ferrea Posted September 24, 2024 Posted September 24, 2024 Thank you for the welcome! I can already say that it's probably among my most beautiful decks, @fire cat pickles.

I'd be surprised if this deck were based on one of these exclusive schools of thought (no offence) because the cards appear notably accessible and open to me. You don't need a book to read them. If I had to, I'd classify it as a whimsical TdM-style deck.
fire cat pickles Posted September 24, 2024 Author Posted September 24, 2024 You are correct. I was thinking of a different deck 🙂 This is based on a TdM pattern I believe, but the artist is no longer with us so impossible to determine exactly her intention whether or not it specific to the TdM school, as you say. I love this one too. It is also one of my favorites though.
PathWalker Posted September 24, 2024 Posted September 24, 2024 I love it too - and it always gave me a slight "Noggin the Nog" vibe Something about the drawing style - the perspective, I don't now. But it is lovely.

But it is lovely. I looked up images of "Noggin the Nog." I get what you mean. The drawing style, yes, and also the oval/egg-shaped heads or faces. There are only two characters in the deck with rounder faces: the Hanged Man and one of the two children on the Sun card. All the faces look young, even those with white/grey beards.
Hemera Posted September 25, 2024 Posted September 25, 2024 (edited) Mermaid Tarot (LoScarabeo) I like Mermaid decks but I´ve yet to find a good one. This new LoScarabeo one that I´ll be using this week is beautiful and mysterious, just like mermaids are and I like the new backs of this printing. The perky breasts are a bit too obviously drawn by a male hand, though, and I find them annoying most of the time. They almost spoil a few nice cards for me. I´ve tried Leeza Robertson´s Mermaid Tarot but as beautiful as it is, it lacks some of the mystery and elusiveness of mermaids. The cards are very cartoony with lots of detail. They are easy to read as the stories are very obvious, but that´s about all they seem to give to me. No mystery or magic there. (Having said this, I may have to try it out properly in here some week, just to see if that´s really all they can offer me.) I purchased this new LoScarabeo printing (with the new backs and nice blue borders) just a few weeks ago but it has not given me any good readings so far. I also own the older version which has more teal colour and slightly strange card backs, and I have to say I´ve never used it very much. I usually like teal but, in this deck, (old version) it gives rather a muddy and murky feel, especially together with all those pointy breasts. Anyway, I wanted to try this new version here in DotW and see if I can bond better with this new deck. I wish I could use this more in my readings in the future. I thought I´ll try pulling a card a day during this week and see how the deck will behave. Day 1 Well, I don´t know what happened but today’s card was very accurate and spot on indeed! Maybe just giving this deck enough time and attention was what it needed? I´m currently recovering from a flu and today I´ve still been bound to my house. I´m surrounded by white tissue papers, just like that white cloth is floating around this mermaid. 😆 The Mermaid has a bandage in her eyes. Maybe she has pinkeye like me! The sharp tridents (swords) surrounding her make me think of the headache and sore throat and sore muscles that I´ve been having. I think tarot is sometimes at its best when it gets very literal. Today it certainly was. Day 2 Today´s card was the 9 of Pearls (Pentacles). I had to laugh out loud when I saw it. It is the card of luxury, and ability to treat oneself, as well as the card of improvements and large sums of money. Well, I had my hairdresser´s appointment today, which is naturally all about treating oneself, and it is luxury – and yes, large sums of money are changing hands, too. And some improvement is happening (we hope!😉) Great day just for myself, and just what I needed after that nasty flu. Edited September 25, 2024 by Hemera added the photo
Hemera Posted September 26, 2024 Posted September 26, 2024 (edited) Mermaid tarot Day 3 Nine of Oars (Wands) Nine of Wands is just about a perfect card for today. All the traditional meanings apply to some extent: the need to heal before moving on, standing on one's last legs.. and whatnot. So the deck offered me a good card for today, *except* that looking closely at this picture, none of this comes through here in this particular card. This pointy breasted beauty is not in need of healing. She makes me think that she's looking for a challenge or perhaps she is gloating over all the oars she has managed to gather. She is neither tired nor worried. So I'm not sure what to make of today's card. It was spot on, and yet it wasn't. Well, four more days/cards to pull. Edited September 26, 2024 by Hemera
Ferrea Posted September 26, 2024 Posted September 26, 2024 The idea to sign up for this week came on Monday when I did a reading with this deck. The base card was the Ace of Wands, and it cracked me up when I looked at it closely. What is happening there? A stick with elaborate geometric painting, or possibly inlaid work, is held up by an anonymous hand. At the top of this stick is an animal head—I'd say a greyhound. Its mouth is open as if in surprise—understandably! From the left, a similar "stick" comes into the picture. Same colour, different ornaments, almost identical head, but this one is bending its neck to bite into its own neck. The second greyhound head's facial expression appears provocative to me, or playfully aggressive. "Let me see what you can do!" Below, I'll post all the aces. What they have in common, to me, is that the imagery negates the notion of singularity. As soon as you raise your sword, someone will be happy to go up against it. An impulse that is matched and challenged. A sentiment embedded in experience, an opportunity being grabbed. Just my initial associations. The Asso de Denari brought the final line of a poem by E. E. Cummings to mind: And set my teeth in the silver of the moon. [read the full poem here] It's so inspiring to look at these cards!
PathWalker Posted September 30, 2024 Posted September 30, 2024 Well the Sacred Circle deck just sat here on the desk quietly, like and old comfortable friend all week, and we never spoke to each other! I sorted out decks to work with the ancestor tarot book, and even a deck to turn one card every day during my extreme low-carb diet period, but no readings. So we will be working again for another week and I'll be more chatty. Hopefully the deck will chat too. PathWalker
Hemera Posted September 30, 2024 Posted September 30, 2024 (edited) Day 4 The Star and Day 5 Hanged Man These two were spot on again. Well done, busty mermaids! Both of these cards have rather traditional RWS type of images. The Star has the “original” two-part (“Starbucks”) type of split tail, which is no longer shown in the Starbucks logo, because it was too erotic. (At least that´s what I read online somewhere.) The liquid she pours looks more like milk than water. Interesting. I wonder if she is some kind of Great Mother. I pulled the Star in the morning of a wonderful day of meeting the nearest and dearest. My flu was almost gone, and my health was improving fast. I felt a lot better already. There was peace and serenity. Hanged Man day was also very much like the card itself, it included a lot of waiting and hanging in there, and some missed opportunities. Nothing major, but the Hanged Man aura was definitely there. Day 6 King of Oars (Wands) and Day 7 Eight of Oars (Wands) King of Oars/Wands really had no relevance to my day whatsoever. I have no idea what it meant. There was not much Wand energy anywhere that I could have noticed. This old Patriarch had got himself in front of the wrong woman, in a wrong day. Yesterday I thought the same was happening with the card of the day, the 8 of Oars/Wands, but very soon after breakfast I got a phone call about a project that was suddenly moving fast forward, after a hiatus of several months. So, a perfect 8 Wands event! This deck was certainly working better for me than I expected. All, except for one card, seemed to be fairly accurate. Maybe I´ll return to this deck at some later date. I now feel like trying some other deck, though. Not sure yet, which one. Thank you for this week @fire cat pickles Edited September 30, 2024 by Hemera
