Lovely deck!

I'm in with Circle of Life this week, thank you.

Hi , crew!  This week I’m starting five weeks of Halloween!  I have several decks I categorize as Halloween decks, so I’m going to try to use all of them before November 18 (right before the end of Scorpio).  This week will be whimsical witches:  Everyday Witch Tarot, Deborah Blake, Llewellyn, and Good Witch, Bad Witch, which has been republished as Modern Wiccan Box of Spells, Gillian Kemp, CICO Books.

Everyday Witch depicts people doing normal, everyday things (oh, duh!), but in whimsical witches’ gear.  Good Witch, Bad Witch has 52 small cards, evenly divided between good and bad witches.  The book has a spell for each card for a specific purpose, from “worldly success” to “jinx an enemy’s clothes.”  I’m pretty sure I’m not going to do any spells!  😊

A full interview for each!

Monday1.thumb.jpg.66af98487746ffbaba9221ae7d133140.jpg

What is your most important characteristic?  The Hanged Man

They hold the key, but it’s still going to be difficult to get it in the locks.  This makes me think it’s some kind of punishment because it’s using their own broom against them (or is equally punishing the broom?)

Starting off strong with two majors.  The messages in the cards are all out there for anyone to see, but it still can be difficult to put them to good use.

What is your strength?  The Chariot

There is never a time when I don’t want to see a cat in a sidecar with a helmet and scarf!  (I guess the witch’s hat is a magical helmet.)

The deck is good at helping readers make decisions that help them on the right way.

Your weakness?  Seven of Swords

When you’re on a magical breaking and entering mission, don’t get greedy.  And don’t hold swords by the blades.

The deck’s weakness is it might enable readers to see and hold onto whatever ideas (swords) they want (7=Venus) to see, no matter how cutting they might be.

What can you teach me?  Five of Pentacles

Kitty doesn’t have any boots for the snow.  But it looks like they’ve almost come to the end of their cold arduous journey.

Tarot can be all fun and games, but it can also be a good reminder to help people who actually need some help.

How can I learn it?  Six of Wands

Dragon witch shares the credit for her success with others who helped.

I can help others by looking for the helpers and giving them the credit they deserve.

What will be the outcome of our work together?  Nine of Wands

She’s used up almost all of her wands just to defend herself.  I hope she can recharge them eventually.

I’m deep in my effort to flesh out and manifest my homemade tarot astro attributions.  I’ll need to defend myself from a return to RWS / GD attributions in this deck, but it’s so charming, it won’t seem like a chore.  But I have to remind myself to stay strong in my differences in ideas!

Monday2.thumb.jpg.2415b5cd6e864d76a32c68db078d9d4d.jpg

All bad witches except the last.

What is your most important characteristic?  The Broomstick Witch

The focus of the deck is getting somewhere different that where we are now.

What is your strength?  The Ring Around the Moon Witch

The last card in the deck.  I had to look up the meaning:  Be careful what you wish for, and truly heartfelt wishes come true.

The deck helps us figure out what we want and how to get it.

Your weakness?  The Tortured Witch

The equal number of positive and negative cards in any deck seem to me to weigh negative, even though they’re equal.  (I found that early with Carolyn Myss’s Archetype Cards.  Each card has a positive and negative, and the whole thing seemed so negative!)  I guess I need decks to be mostly positive with a few reality checks blended in.

What can you teach me?  The Eye of Newt Witch

About the evil eye, looking at someone with ill intent or jealousy.  But my first thought was about being vegetarian.  For some reason, I’ve been getting r/vegan posts, but I know my limitations:  I’m only committed to not eating the actual flesh of animals (and avoiding leather, etc. when I can).  But maybe I’m feeling defensive about not going all the way . . .

I can learn not to compare myself with others and not use animals for unnecessary things.

How can I learn it?  The Old Hag Witch

I’m old and I need to acknowledge that and not hide it.  I can use my wisdom of age.  Especially to realize that it’s not about purity, it’s about compassion.

What will be the outcome of our work together?  The Healing Witch

The deck will bring up some random negative stuff I need to deal with and it will be healing.

I have a mini version of this deck. I've never once read with it. It was an impulse purchase [cheap and mini] but your post reminds me I *do* actually like this deck. Maybe I'll give a try reading with it during Halloween season as you do.

I'm in with more of the witchy vibe:  I'm delighted to dig in with the Witches' Wisdom Tarot by Phyllis Curott; artwork by Danielle Barlow.  Usually I'm upset when someone tampers with the basic structure of a traditional 78 card Tarot deck.  In this case, Curott and Danielle have done a Major overhaul of the Major Arcana and I am delighted.  It feels appropriate.  On my morning walks today, I was thinking about how my life's purpose is to support other people's quest for enlightenment.  I see that also as an important purpose of the Tarot.  Perhaps we need some different and more universal (less Christian) archetypes guide us as we walk this path.  I'm enthusiastic and having fun.

Welcome to the group @JoyousGirl 🙂

The DoW Group is a fun and enlightening way to share how your decks can work for others, to highlight new or unique reading techniques and spreads, and perhaps to introduce new decks for other members.

Hope you enjoy your time with us here!

Welcome to the DoW group

Thanks @Bodhiseed. Nice to be here.

This is a new deck in my collection. While I've done a few readings, I haven't done a deck interview and 'formal' introduction, so the following should hopefully help prepare the ground for future work. I'm putting the spread down here so it's sent to the ethers for processing and will do the reading a bit later.

1.    What is your communication style?
2.    How do you like to work when performing readings? (i.e. One card tells all, small spreads, large spreads, use reversals, focus on book meanings, intuitive meanings etc)
3.    What approach should I take to get the most accurate readings from you?
4.    What do you want me to know about you?
5.    What do you want me to know about me?
6.    What do you want me to know about our work together?

(Original bordered) Tarot of a Moon Garden deck interview 20 October 2024

I reversed some cards as I shuffled, but none came out reversed.

For anyone who reads this and is interested, I designed this spread / questions myself and its format is as follows:

              6

           4    5

       1     2    3

1.    What is your communication style?  2 of Swords.

As a communication style, one might immediately anticipate it saying nothing knowing that 2 of Swords can represent stalemate.

There's equally large waves facing each other on either side of her in the background. It is a little bit confronting, to be honest. However, slowing down and getting myself out of the way - there's balance throughout. The force of the waves counteract each other, there is a sense of merging powers rather than battle. The two swords point down, not at each other, sort of "making a point". The solitary star indicates a guide forward.

Almost as soon as I'd laid down the cards a series of statements flowed out:

I'll say it and I'll stand by what I've said.
It is what it is.

They might not want to see it but the issue won't go away until they do.

There, I've said it.

Keywords from the booklet which vibe with what I felt - and apply to a communication style are:  Balanced force,  Firmness, concord. An interesting one was "affection" which I don't take to be as fondness, but rather having an affect on.

To summarise, there's a firmness in communication, a balanced point of view.  This deck communicates with a punch - it makes one reflect, causes a bit of turmoil (the waves). It might force us to pause to think and deal from a balanced perspective rather than just our own - which is often self justifying, but not mindful of our own role in the situations we find ourselves in.  It is blunt, but soft when it wants to be, something I discovered later on as I read through the cards.

2.    How do you like to work when performing readings? 4 of Pentacles

This deck really had something to say. Obviously it was waiting for me to do the spread from when I first posted! (if that's possible 🙂 )

"Make up your mind and stick with it."

Tell querents to be very clear in their questions because the response will be very specific to the chosen words. Hold onto the idea for the purpose of the reading. The star on the crown on the person's forehead suggests I keep my ego out of it and let go of personal baggage. Strangely (not really strangely with this card), I got the idea that it  wants an exchange - a crossing of the palm with silver.  Maybe it wants me to believe in my worth?  I am currently skinflint 😄 and that doesn't help me feel good about myself.

Keywords from the booklet:  Love of material wealth, Hoarder, Usurer, skinflint, inability to share. Of all these, the cards seem to like the moolah.

3.    What approach should I take to get the most accurate readings from you? The Emperor

Be assertive. Ask the querent questions. Be bold. Take it seriously. Be responsible and stick with it like the rams made of rock behind the Emperor.

The Emperor's orb in his left hand seems to be the moon while the sun appears to be in the sky. Should I listen to the person's moon-influenced ideas (deceiving ideas they hold to themselves) and root those out by utilising the sceptre in his right hand - the ankh and eternal life. Looking at things from a karmic perspective. Past, present and future? The sun is illuminating the illusions they hold or at the least bringing them into the light of day for review. Tarot readings - any readings are usually counselling the client in some way. The Emperor is a father figure, and his approach is firm but fair.

Relevant Keywords: Confidence, stability, authority, domination of intelligence and reason over emotion and passion. This last one hearkens back to the previous cards - balance, keep my ego out of it.

Last thoughts/Summary: Be confident, but also acknowledge the responsibility inherent in the situation - readers have power over people who may take their advice.

4.    What do you want me to know about you?  5 of Swords

Well, this was a bit concerning. It's not a card we generally like to see. But there's no artifice.

There's a self-awareness in this (if that's possible for the spirit of a deck). While uncomfortably highlighting shadows, these cards seem to admit that we all have one. So there's a trustworthiness.

I looked at the dragon, and his head was sort of hiding behind the swords on the ground. It's as if he was saying "I lie in wait to remove you of false notions. I'll throw the odd curve ball to remove what's unnecessary or outlived. I can be a bit sneaky - there's a lesson in the message for both the querent and yourself." I really hope it's not going to lead someone to ripping me off!

Keywords: conquest. I've selected this as it's a seeking word.  The other keywords, defeat and destruction of others and adversaries, are not something I want to contemplate. I don't get betrayal from this deck, but seeking out those dark crevices within us and giving them a poke like a turtle or something to bring it to a head. We can't overcome something if we don't meet it face on.

5.    What do you want me to know about me? 9 of Cups

I looked at the girl lying down gazing into the sky and this was me as a little girl, wishing I could go into the stars because I felt I belonged there, and now wishing I could be in nature for a job because I feel like I belong there. This card says your dreams can come true. You can connect and do connect into the light (the web), you can be all places at once. Follow your dreams, spend time in nature with your special rituals.

After all the previous cards, I thought it might be a little blunt and highlight one of my terrible attributes. But this was a really sweet card, it suggests to me that my shadow is the good things about me I don't consider. I'm not sweet to myself, so this deck is being sweet to me. It's giving love and support where it's needed. Maybe I can be successful and achieve material attainment, and overcome past difficulties.

Keywords: Success, wellbeing, abundance, good health, difficulties surmounted.

image.png.d3b5972492f47d1eb175895888832f3d.png

6.    What do you want me to know about our work together?

The vibe certainly picked up from the beginning!

The time has come. the moon is full, the harvest is ready. Working together means spending more time in nature and creating.  The cornucopia can be attained. Autumn is the season things will come together. Prepare the soil, sow the seeds, water and nurture and abundance is possible.

Keywords: Feminine progress, fruitfulness, accomplishment, ability to motivate others, practicality, intuition.

Summary: This is a practical, forthright deck, with the ability to motivate others through intuition. Accomplishment as a respected reader with these cards is possible, as well as material abundance, but slow steady growth and effort is required to make the work flower and bloom.

ETA The Emperor and the Empress in this reading really does say this pairing (me and the deck) is a good one. The style of communication seems to match. I'm a Sagittarian and can be a little blunt myself. There is certainly work to be done and I do have some power at my disposal in this regard.

Well, a bit of a fail for me this week. I tried a couple of different small readings this week with Circle of Life Tarot - and never really felt it was talking to me.

It's got beautiful illustrations - but they seem as if they don't  connect one with another,  the characters are very closed in, and I really didn't get a useful vibe from them at all  :classic_sad:

It is the reason I'm doing DotW; so as to check out the decks in my collection and be sure of what I'm keeping. But it was still sad to find that a deck I had thought I would like wasn't a keeper after  all. This one will be making it's way into a Glastonbury charity shop soon.
