Rachelcat Posted February 17, 2025 Posted February 17, 2025 Hi, @fire cat pickles and @Christina and everyone! To (unintentionally) continue the alchemy theme, this week will be Tarot of the Alchemical Magnum Opus by Robert M. Place, “An iconic edition of the Alchemical Tarot Distilled to its Essence.” I had the Alchemical Tarot back when it first came out (or maybe the second edition), but it didn’t seem to say much about alchemy, or say it coherently. So now that both I and Robert know more about alchemy (and tarot), I’m ready to give it another try. (I also have Tarot of the Sevenfold Mystery, which I’m not ready to delve into yet. And I had a reading from Robert at a Reader’s Studio long ago. The only card I remember from the reading is V. of Batons, Five Fingers.) This version has alchemical terms (ingredients, operations, and symbols) in place of major names. The minors are, as noted, pared down images from the Alchemical Tarot. The courts continue to confuse me: Lady (woman’s face or body); Knight (helmet); Queen (woman’s face with crown); King (animal with crown). Why are the women shown as humans but not the “men”? In the booklet, the suits are Jungian: sensation, intuition, thinking, feeling; and the minor cards have titles: “The Elephant,” “The Victim.” I like the title idea because I think it subtly takes us into fortunetelling land. Well, let’s give it a try! Wash, shuffle, and interview. First of all, I really did shuffle. Well. I thought. What is your most important characteristic? II. of Coins, Fixation of the Volatile The deck is a good combination of alchemy and tarot. It applies the system of tarot (fixation) to the more nebulous concepts of alchemy (the volatile). What is your strength? Knight of Coins, the Protector It’s a serviceable deck that is the product of much hard work. Your weakness? Queen of Coins, Wealth It’s not a very feminine deck (water + earth). It’s not good for practical finance questions. What can you teach me? Ace of Cups, the Fish It can instead teach me about emotional abundance. How can I learn it? IV. of Cups, the Elephant Which I can learn by keeping my strong emotions under control. Elephants are powerful but can be trained, just like strong emotions. What will be the outcome of our work together? XIX. Greater Conjunction (Sun) I will learn more about the combinations mentioned here. And much will become clear to me that wasn’t before.
fire cat pickles Posted February 17, 2025 Author Posted February 17, 2025 Welcome back @Christina and @Rachelcat 🙂
Bodhiseed Posted February 17, 2025 Posted February 17, 2025 Thank you Firecat cat! I'm in this week with the Roots of Asia Tarot paired with the Mahjongg Oracle. Clean up your own mess. —Robert Fulghum The Knight of Wands is Air within Fire, a quick mind inside a body with too much energy to sit still. I was waiting in line at Walgreens the other day and saw a woman leave her four-year-old son outside the bathroom with their buggy, commanding him to "Stay here." Two seconds after she left, he was using the buggy to ram into shelves and displays. In the same way, the impulsive actions of this knight often lead to mayhem, but because he's constantly in motion, he's usually not there to notice them. The Farmer signifies the tasks and toil of bringing in the harvest. Rather than speaking of tenacity or patience, it encourages us to do the physical effort that is required. So instead of simply saying "sorry," we need to clean up the messes we make.
