DanielJUK Posted July 4, 2024 Posted July 4, 2024 Love that @SilverFox @PathWalker made some decks which were mixes of other decks. She asked for incomplete and unwanted decks and then you could buy a deck (with money going to charity) which had random cards. I think max of 2 from the same deck. It was called Pathwalker's Patchwork Deck. I really find it such an interesting deck in my collection to work with, like it's completely random what comes out. Also it is enabling, I have bought 3 decks from seeing the cards in it and loving those cards! Publishers should really give out or sell cheaply, "sampler decks" so you can see a selection of their cards! I know Fool's Dog has a free app with their decks in it which is a sampler. But I realised it's such a good discovery method of decks and artwork you wouldn't normally buy! I think it expanded my usual deck selections. About your deck, I love the idea of all your fave cards together! Clever idea 🙂
Guest Posted July 4, 2024 Posted July 4, 2024 That is one beautiful collection @SilverFox. I hope that someday I'll be able to craft my own personal best-of-the-best deck similar to yours.

Earlier today, to the question, “how will the day goes?”, I pulled out cards - Knight of Swords, 2 batons, 2 cups. So…all day long I needed proof that I was a better person (corporate relations). We fought about it…It was then that I really had to demonstrate my competence. But at the end of the work day, my workmate accepted my argument and we exchanged pleasantries. Maybe it's a coincidence and nothing more. ))
Wyrdkiss Posted July 4, 2024 Posted July 4, 2024 I recently picked up the Tarot Vintage RWS. Pictured here is the CENTENNIAL EDITION RWS. I like the Centennial a lot more than the vintage. While it lacks the fully weathered look, that will come partly in time. The colors on the Vintage are just too muted, unnecessarily so in my opinion. I love the Centennial from the box set. I bought the travel mini in a tin too. I will say this -- If you can pick up the Vintage on a discount, and you want it, the Little White book is positively excellent. She really nails the approach to tarot, and offers an alternative to the Past Present Future spread that often give a lot of new readers considerably confusion. 9/10 on the book, as the minor cards are bit rigidly and minimally defined. So helpful though, if looking to understand the ins and outs of how tarot can work as a new reader. As for reading going forward, however, with this system, Centennial all the way. What has been your experience? PS my Thoth is 24 years old, and I've had my greenie longer. I am proud of the weathering.

The Centennial was my favorite until I got the Tarot of A.E. Waite that I posted here in 2019. As much as I like the Centennial, the A.E. Waite has my favorite colors, and feels very open and airy somehow. For a while it was unavailable, but it's back I see. Love your 24 year old Thoth. The wear shows the love and experience of the reader. 🙂

I may pick up a copy again via your link to use as a client deck. I can tell it's quite pretty.

Is this pressings standard a bit less than many mass market RWS decks?
Wyrdkiss Posted July 12, 2024 Posted July 12, 2024 PS this one is nice too, same printer, if I don't mind the language difference the size is definitely larger. https://www.amazon.de/-/en/Arthur-Edward-Waite-Pamela-Colman/dp/B071RMM1WN/ref=sr_1_5?crid=2W9XWYD5GM1E&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.XugZOz3ixeUmFElcTgQBY-51ErKsWdno5x-eArcEUjE0mpL70SrJWZ7gVmwT8wTVIP12QgX7bdFRsBcjX07lJ29ixz7g9nFrxyfMInERyOBng194lVqXQSoJXT4eJ_1HtwiFdiaUDQSMAgGsTOZL1YuHV5nKLY4NRpfiVcPON2CZ1XiA-k3tfQXaQ81ZA_R0cOJPdZtN3I33SbKVQvLDO8xfuFPBeL04uEl_KaNgbTo.BHj8sunh8r7sS4FIrXdiyhlsahHpWlbAmttTIesGcDw&dib_tag=se&keywords=tarot+drogi&qid=1720743978&sprefix=tarot+drogi%2Caps%2C214&sr=8-5

Thank you for the comparison and suggestion! These are verified as nice and full size; I am going to use this crackle-backed and vibrant edition for future clients. As for the Thoth, thank you, isn't a weathered with love deck just the best feeling ever? Cheers once again for the info

Those amazon listings change with all the sellers, and I ordered mine in 2019, so I couldn't verify that it's still actually the standard and not the pocket (I see what you mean in those reviews!). Glad you will be definitely getting the size you prefer. Seems like a great client deck, cheerful but classic feeling. Agree about your Thoth (which is a fav deck of mine). ❤️
Raggydoll Posted September 18, 2024 Author Posted September 18, 2024 So my new deck just arrived 🥳 I was surprised to see that the guidebook is more like a glossy pamphlet than a standard booklet, however, it seems to have everything needed and lots of pictures, so I’m good with it (though I still wish it would have been smaller and more close to the actual deck in size, for storage purposes..) Here is a sneak peek inside the guidebook. The layout is very reminiscent of the magazines for new deck releases. The information given is very basic but probably adequate for most readers. I really appreciate having full color photos of all the cards. The size of the deck is slightly shorter and wider than your average tarot deck. It’s more like the format you see in Oracle decks. The cardstock feels like it’s of nice quality and the colors are vibrant! I could not resist taking out the Inner Compass Oracle for comparison, because my plan is to combine these decks in readings. At a first glance, they look very good together! 😍 Looking at some more cards.. what can I say? Eye candy! These colors make me so happy! And for some cherry on top, I added my painted runes. Oh yes, I am very happy indeed! How excellent that this deck arrived in time for the full moon. Lots of fun awaits!
DanielJUK Posted September 18, 2024 Posted September 18, 2024 About the Painted Tarot... I got my version, as the last remaining stock after the first Kickstarter (I think?) and it had no leaflet or anything at all! I bought it directly. I think the kickstarter had come with more stuff. The later prints had this leaflet but mine had nothing but the box and cards. I find it annoying as I don't know her intention for each painted card I did reach out to her on instagram once and she said she could send me one. Perhaps I should follow that up and contact her, useful to have The paintings are gorgeous though, the year I bought it, she was doing a gallery show in Scotland of her non tarot paintings 🙂 Anyway enjoy your decks @Raggydoll

But you know what, my intuition tells me that the Universe will sort this out for you very soon 😁

I have the White hare wisdom deck since before, and this time I bought The Aboridium and the Majick cottage. The packaging was so lovely and lots of extra goodies were included. I’ll of course show you some pics! 😁 This one is pocket sized and it has both a tuck box and a bag that the guidebook came in. I’ll turn it into a proper drawstring bag for the deck The artwork is adorable and the keywords are unique. That’s what I love about her decks. The second deck is more like a traditional Oracle deck in size and comes with a sturdy box. The artwork really stands out in this size of cards! Perfect for the season… Very happy to receive this today, it makes for a great weekend! 🥳 I have both of these decks and love them. I think The Majick Cottage is my favourite, though. The Arboridium is slightly 'preachy'(?) compared to the Majick Cottage. I use them a lot, just for myself. I shuffle them, then rocket through them as fast as I can (face up) and grab the cards that speak to me at that moment. I try to draw no more than 6 cards. Then I sit and look at the ones I've pulled, which tell me a lot about my day and where I feel I am at the present moment. Very enlightening and calming, as there are no 'nasty' cards. In general, I'm not an oracle person, but I do really love these. You are right that The Arboridium is an easy deck to handle in the smaller, thinner card stock.

They do have different personalities and there is also a difference in the style of keywords on them, I have found. I do really like all of these decks but I don’t think they are useful for every type of reading that I do. So I only use them sometimes. This does make me wish that the creator would make a tarot deck or an Oracle that has more fortune telling style keywords, if that makes sense. I want the option of seeing a whole scenario and be given many details, and that’s not really possible with the way the decks are made currently. But I do think they have their place and there is a lot of other types of potential in there!

I think the creator (s) focus on 'life lessons' more than anything else. And one lesson at a time is usually a good idea! 🙂 I am very partial to a cozy, casual, somewhat introverted home life, so the images in The Majick Cottage are very comforting and pleasurable for me, even in the midst of what might feel like chaos in my own home and life at the time. Curious. I sometimes find the 'coined' words a bit annoying, though. Not enough to spoil the experience, but enough that I kinda wish they weren't there. What's your opinion on this? They annoy me because it means I have to take out the guidebook and I much prefer to not use one! I also don’t think the made up words are clever enough for me to want to use them or remember them. And to be very honest, I find them a bit childish. It’s the only part of these decks that I really don’t like. And when I read for others and one of those cards comes up, I am more or less forced to explain both the made up word and the universe of the White Hare. Which is a hassle and I know it won’t be to the taste of every querent, so I do make a conscious decision about which people I’d use these decks with.

The words aren't all that clever, and they certainly are a distraction when reading through the otherwise good booklets. Saztaculous. Crumlush. Twizzly. Clottabussed. Driftolubbs. Geezabreak. (That's mine!) I guess that's why I look at the cards rather than read about them. I've read the booklets through, but decided not to use them most of the time. And those words are why. I don't mind the concept of 'coined' words—Terry Pratchett uses them to great effect—but a little goes a long way. And you don't have to do this kind of thing to appeal to children, really. Not sure why the authors took this route. But never mind. I am very fond of the cards, especially in The Majick Cottage. Edited September 18, 2024 by Chariot

Raggydoll Posted September 19, 2024 Author Posted September 19, 2024 Today I received the second of the two decks that I had ordered. This one is a majors only deck called Inner Journey tarot. It is an indie deck with collage art, created by the artist Heather Hoeps. This is the same creator that made the Inner Compass Oracle. I bought this deck straight from the creator, through her Etsy page. The delivery was quick and everything arrived safely. However, I was not entirely happy about the fact that there was glitter sequins added to the bag 😒. I can imagine that Heather wanted there to be a festive feeling when you open the bag, but to me, it just created extra hassle. The glitter was not only in the bag but it had gotten into the card box, which then meant that there was glitter on the cards and even INSIDE the guidebook 😩. So I spent several minutes trying to rid myself (and my hands!) of it all. Sigh. But once the glitter was all in the trash (such a waste, but I just do not like glitter!!), I could finally look more properly at what the deck and guidebook looked like. I invite you to join me in this process 😊 The cards are a standard tarot size and the cardstock feels nice. What you’re seeing here is the back of the deck, the title card and the guidebook. The art is very evocative and I can imagine that it will work really well for intuitive or even psychic work. It says in the guidebook that Heather draws her inspiration from studies in astrology, spirituality, Jungian psychology, art history and art therapy. I can definitely see that in her deck. And speaking of the guidebook. Here is a sample page: As you can tell, there are black and white images of the card and one full page of meanings per card. I’m keen on starting to work with this deck, likely in combination with other systems 🙂
FindYourSovereignty Posted September 19, 2024 Posted September 19, 2024 I’ve always been intrigued by her decks, but have yet invested in them. The shipping has kept them at bay… for now. I feel the same about glitter - no thank you!
Raggydoll Posted October 3, 2024 Author Posted October 3, 2024 Today I received one of the cutest tarot decks I’ve ever seen: The Wisdom of Pooh tarot! This version is the mini that comes in a tin 😍 I love the size and the packaging. The cardstock feels very nice too, and the back design is really pretty. It doesn’t come with a guidebook but it has extra cards with printed keywords, and that’s fine for me. The deck contains four extra majors. One of them is an alternative Fool card. The artwork is SO lovely and my first impression is that this deck will be quite readable too. That’s important to me, I don’t just want cute novelty decks, I need them to actually work in readings. Piglet is such a favorite of mine 😁 I think it’s adorable that the suits are renamed. I particularly like the Queen of Honey Pots and the Queen of Chocolate Pentacles 🤣 it will be really interesting to see how well this deck reads!
akiva Posted October 3, 2024 Posted October 3, 2024 Omg @Raggydoll that deck is so adorable! It's sat in my basket and my fingers hovering over the checkout button 🤣
