One version is pre-order and the other version says it ships in 1-2 months. Does anyone know what's up with this? I'm pretty sure Lo Scarabeo decks hit most U.S. sites a bit later than their European publish dates. But Book Depository seems to be shipping it immediately from the UK, and Llewellen as well. (I really like the colors, so I was looking forward to this when the catalog came out, but it's Pam B as mentioned earlier, and unfortunately I'm with @Raggydoll on that, so in the end I went with the AGM. Speaking of the Lo Scarabeo catalog, I don't know if it's of interest, but since we're talking in print RWS, later this year they're publishing a black & gold RWS. ) Edited June 23, 2019 by Rose Lalonde

The black and gold is pretty.

They usually deliver to other countries. So I was re-reading all the helpful info in this thread (thanks everyone!)... I didn't catch this the first time, that I could use my US account with amazon.de. It worked. I got a German one at retail and the shipping was less than $4. And I didn't have to go through the trauma of having to enter my address and payment info, or create a separate account. Neat! I did have to use Google translate to help me along, but it was fun. (I love languages. Because, I'm a geek.) I don't need the booklet, so the language isn't an issue. And, I have an English one the way as well, so I'll have that booklet. Happy!
Eric13 Posted June 23, 2019 Posted June 23, 2019 @McFaire This is PCS artwork, but they have been recolored by Mary Hanson-Roberts according to USG on the box.

katrinka Posted June 24, 2019 Posted June 24, 2019 (edited) She altered the linework, too. The facial expressions can be quite different from the ones PCS drew because of that. (It's not the first or last deck to be "softened" this way. The people on the first Kipper decks were baleful looking! And Ben Dov put slight smiles on the people in his TdM. Personally, I don't think it's necessary, but YMMV, etc.) Edited June 24, 2019 by katrinka
Quester Posted June 24, 2019 Posted June 24, 2019 They must have sold out and waiting for more to arrive. I am not surprised it sold out so quickly, but hope it is back sooner than 1-2 months!!!
Eric13 Posted June 27, 2019 Posted June 27, 2019 @katrinka Thats a huge difference, but thats also what time and profitability will do.
katrinka Posted June 27, 2019 Posted June 27, 2019 (edited) Maybe. The Universal has stayed in print for a good while, so it apparently does OK. But I still suspect PCS's art outsells it. It would be interesting to see sales figures for decks, like we do for music and movies. We can really only guess at profitability. Edited June 27, 2019 by katrinka
Quester Posted June 30, 2019 Posted June 30, 2019 Looks like Radiant Wise Spirit is back in stock at Amazon!!

Its from University Books, New Hyde Park address and leather box. Im told its ca. 1959. The coloring is the same, lifework is excellent, but the way its colored is obviously different. probably older technology, different process. And no, I'm not going to run out and buy a deck from the '70's! I am de-enabled! Just saw this thread, while looking for posts on University Books decks.... A Pam A does NOT come from University books. It's from the first decade of the 20th century. The UBC one is 1960, as I recall, though I see their site says 1959: https://waitesmith.org/index.php/university-books-inc/. Edited July 11, 2019 by gregory
Eric13 Posted July 11, 2019 Posted July 11, 2019 So I guess UB sort re-printed their own version. It seems that the vast differences are from the late '90's on, and maybe even the 21st century. So, who has a favorite version of RWS?
katrinka Posted July 11, 2019 Posted July 11, 2019 The University Books RWS was continuously in print from the late 50's until the early 70's. https://www.tarotforum.net/showthread.php?t=40208

It's a very attractive-looking site, but it's not very well researched. They say here that Frankie Albano "released a promo single for Dondee records in 1936, even though the single was originally set down in 1922."https://waitesmith.org/index.php/tarot-productions-resident-genius-frankie-albano/ But if you’ve ever spent any time with old records, you know that 45 RPM singles with big center holes requiring an adaptor didn’t even exist in the 1930’s. From Wikipedia: “The 7-inch 45 rpm record was released 31 March 1949 by RCA Victor as a smaller, more durable and higher-fidelity replacement for the 78 rpm shellac discs.” Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Single_%28music%29#7-inch_format As we can see here, “1936” would have been the catalog number: http://www.45cat.com/label/dondee I have no idea what the number “1922” is, but it’s certainly not a year, either. But yeah. Pam A predates University Book by a couple of world wars, and more.
gregory Posted July 11, 2019 Posted July 11, 2019 (edited) Oh I know - that's why I said I thought the date was wrong. Here's a good one - a limited edition for £3.99 on ebay. VERY Limited - they have only sold 2,337 so far... Favourite ? I love my blue box one. I also love the GOOD PCS one that Lo Scarabeo put out, with the BLUE backs. Sadly it was only around for a matter of weeks. Edited July 11, 2019 by gregory
gregory Posted July 11, 2019 Posted July 11, 2019 If you want to read up on the Pams: https://www.wopc.co.uk/tarot/rider-waite/rider-waite-early-editions And an article by Jensen, who absolutely knew his stuff. His book is excellent. And the long lamented Holly Voley knows EVERYTHING: sadly her site fell over when the ISP was sold but it is up on wayback: https://web.archive.org/web/20060902042128/home.comcast.net/~vilex/ A fairly complete timeline h-is here: https://web.archive.org/web/20060820172037/http://home.comcast.net/~vilex/ShipofFools.html If you are going to talk about the various printings, you could really use the facts.
