I mixed Liquitex Pouring Medium (found it at Michaels in the art section) with acrylic paints (DecoArt) at a ratio of one to one, approximately. I put about 1/4 of an inch of each in a bathroom size cup for each color I was using. These must be mixed (I used popsicle sticks) for about 30 seconds or more. Then (because I was doing a 'dirty pour') I poured three or four colors together in a larger cup and gave it a gentle stir before pouring over the rocks. I used an old cake rack to sit the rocks on with a pan beneath to catch all the drips, but I've heard of people using lids or bottle caps taped down in a pan to put the rocks on. Once poured, the rocks need to sit overnight to dry. You can paint the year on the bottom that doesn't get covered. Because acrylic dries on the outside faster than the inside, you should probably wait a week before spraying it with an acrylic sealer if you want to do so (but use an acrylic paint pen for your word first!). Hope this is helpful. 🙂 Oh, and don't use the glossy, polished stones! Thank you for that! I'll have to gather a few supplies first, but I think ze kiddos and I will have fun with this.
DanielJUK Posted January 5, 2020 Posted January 5, 2020 (edited) I have never heard of this before but I love the idea! My word of this year is perspective as in a bigger or outside or different perspective! I noticed in 2019 that I overthink things a lot and often what we worry about is in our heads, ruminating over and over. There were several times last year that I believed something that was no true, worrying about something and when I saw the bigger perspective or got a different view, I had got it wrong. What we think or guess is often false. I need to get outside my head a little and see a different perspective on things before believing them 🙂❤️ Edited January 5, 2020 by DanielJUK
Arabella Posted January 6, 2020 Posted January 6, 2020 I had heard of this before but never thought of doing it myself. So I'm going to give it a whirl, and thanks to all the great ideas here, hope I can stick with it. @DanielJUK I'm right there with you in the ruminating and being in my head too much. So with much thought and the exercises here in this thread (thanks everyone for your great wisdom), I have chosen my word of the year to be NOW. I'm going to be plastering these and other quotes all over the place to keep me grounded and here - now 🙂 “In today’s rush we all think too much, seek too much, want too much and forget about the joy of just Being.”— Eckhart Tolle "The time is now, the place is here. Stay in the present. You can do nothing to change the past, and the future will never come exactly as you plan or hope for." ~ Dan Millman Its about time I took something like this into practice. I've been dancing around the edges for too long. Thanks for the kick in the butt everyone. A ❤️

Guest Posted January 6, 2020 Posted January 6, 2020 Oh, wow, I'm just discovering this great thread now! I'm loving connecting in with everyone's WOTY's! I've been doing this for a few years now, and I usually create a piece of art or page in my journal with my word or phrase and add insights to it through the year. It's really amazing to look back over past years' creations. This year my word is Release ( on all levels). Last year, the phrase that came was Surprised by Delight- and my practice for the whole year was cultivating a sense of enjoyment of the very simple, ordinary things in my life.
Bodhiseed Posted January 6, 2020 Posted January 6, 2020 If I get stuck trying to find a word next year, I'm coming back to this thread! 😄

I have a friend who makes me a word rock to sit on my desk so I can't miss thinking about it, referring my mind to it, Working it.
AJ-ish/Sharyn Posted November 29, 2020 Posted November 29, 2020 I've chosen my 2021 word of the year, anyone else? It is such a powerful word I've had to sneak up on it sideways. It will take some time to even fit into it. My 2020 Perspective word was an excellent choice. Just glancing over at that painted word on my desk as covid and it's politicising and the elections in my country which blew us apart... it has been good.
legendaryelement Posted February 27, 2021 Posted February 27, 2021 (edited) This was the work-up I did while contemplating ... But, I ended up going with a phrase/theme for using an alphabet as an oracle for the year 2021: Seeds of Significance Note: I love my personal size whiteboard and dry-erase markers!
