I'm just seeing code.  But I copied it and opened it in a new tab.  Very pretty!  Love the coins.

Thanks! I love collage and vintage images. All are licensed for reuse without any restrictions (according to Google).

It’s lovely! 💗 Though I do want to point out that the coins - particularly the ones on the right look like they might be too close to the edge. Double check the safety area please so you don’t need to redo anything later!

Thank you - that is close to what I thought (the patronal blessing sign and with the other hand the patronal blessing sign reversed.), but not quite the same. May I suggest a small edit - I HOPE it's small - either lower or raise the left hand a bit - or, probably better and I suspect easier,  raise the line of the edge of the garment. At the moment it looks as if that hand is partly inside the clothing which is odd and a bit - suggestive. Not what you want, I think

Thank you for the concern! Unfortunately, it is quite too late to change something like that :bubble_blol:. This piece is rather large and editing it in that way would take a lot of time. On top of that, although I didn't go into making this card as something sexually suggestive, I think a lot of my subconscious ideas of Justice came into this piece as I made it. One of the things I picked up while studying my feelings around Justice this last month was an account by my friend of going to the court case for a young woman who was murdered in my city last year. His account of being at the trial really opened my eyes to the purpose of Justice and how it fits in with our humanity. I realized that in the courtroom, since our humanity is laid bear for everyone to see, Justice embodies all human emotions and experiences. With that idea I made the intention to draw a depiction of Justice that portrayed as much of our humanity as I could, and I allowed my subconscious to choose the imagery for that. The things that turned out looking suggestive are probably due to that intention, as sexuality is a huge part of our humanity and something that does come up in a lot of court cases.

I so appreciate you mentioning that! As well as I do think it's fitting for me for this piece, so I'm not worried. I finished it today and I'm excited to send it in!

@stephanelli I LOVE your Nurturer of Water! she's so gentle and at ease. It looks like an underwater paradise. I would love to pay her a visit!

Lovely, lovely image, Jeanette - all these different visions are so inspiring! 😃

Here's my Sage. The bleed has been removed so it should look like the image on the printed card. He was supposed to be at the top of the post but ended up at the bottom and I can't work out how to edit him to the top.

The Sage

There was really no other choice for me but The Wise Man of Ling Po. He came into my mind immediately, and although he originated in Bagpuss, a TV programme beloved by my children (now all grown up with children of their own who love it too), I've always believed the story to be based on a an old Chinese fable. So I found the video on YouTube and began work on the card. I have to admit to a few concerns – I didn't intend to point up parallels between the story and the current situation and would have chosen this particular wise man whatever was going on in the world, and of course have no wish to make light of current events.

When the card was almost finished I did some research but could find nothing whatever about Ling Po or Huang Hi (his 'real' name mentioned by Bagpuss in the programme). But I did find a wonderful article that analyses the concept of Bagpuss and all the characters and which states that:

Nothing here can be found elsewhere, and nothing needs to be; we are wandering among Marlowe’s ‘infinite riches in a little room’ the enclosed yet limitless play-world of the imaginative child.

https://www.abccopywriting.com/2015/08/12/aspects-of-bagpuss

So it seems that Ling Po and Huang Hi are pure imagination and not adapted from a Chinese fable after all, but then most of our cards originate in the imagination so hopefully this is not a problem.

My Sage is rather different in appearance from the Huang Hi in Bagpuss – I wanted to make him a little more real than the drawing or the ceramic figure in the story, but I've copied the tree (very loosely) and given him some turtles to bow to as he sits and watches the leaves grow (I did originally put him under the tree, but had to bring him forward as he was really too small for an archetype).

I hope my choice meets with approval, although goodness knows what I can write about him for the virtual little white book, except perhaps that he is very wise and working on self-knowledge, although when one is consulting this particular sage one must be careful not to upset him like the villagers of Ling Po.

From the article linked above:

There’s an explicit link to zazen in Yaffle’s story of the Wise Man of Ling Po, who just wants to sit under a tree on his island, ‘watching the leaves growing’ and bowing to turtles.”

Anyway, here's the video of the episode which instantly embedded, otherwise I'd just have linked as the video is very small. I hope you like this particular wise man as much as I do.

That’s absolutely stunning! I’m in love with this Sage!

I'm so glad! I love all the Bagpuss episodes, but I think The Wise Man of Lingpo is my favourite - I was so happy to have the opportunity to put him on a card. 🙂

@Pen, I love it!  Such soothing colors and, oh, that tree! His garments!  His facial expression! And the beautiful turtles!  I'm not familiar with the story you're referencing, but this is a wonderful Sage!

Just lovely, @Pen! As a Sinophile who should be out there at the moment... well, he rather warms the heart! :balloon_bri:

Thank you Wanderer! And I had to look up Sinophile (I thought it might be someone who loved turtles and that you worked in a zoo...!) so I learned something new today. 😄

Well, as it happens I am rather fond of turtles and tortoises too (does that make me a cheloniophile, I wonder?), along with all our other little neighbours that we share the world with - so he ticks all sorts of boxes for me!

@Pen a really, really, lovely piece! i love the way the turtle has the water surrounding it while it's swimming, and the Sage himself is cloaked in blue. It feels so calm. The perfect Sage I think!

Ahhhh, thank you zedekiel! I'm just happy that he seems to have struck a chord with so many here. 😊

Thank you for asking! I started thinking about the concept of Justice with the idea of "balance." And the first thing I think of when I think of "balance" is "As Above So Below". I believe in that mantra fiercely as it is true ive found for all aspects of life, physical, emotional, intellectual, spiritual, and how they all flow, connect, and balance with each other.

It was also stated in certain biblical texts that god "gave Mercy with his right hand, and took Justice with his left". In the context of the Tarot Justice, mercy is an aspect of it for me. They are not separate, even though they are different. So I wanted to make sure the hands in this drawing were pulling up a visual of some kind of balance, while also being not being symmetrical. Being different, yet equal. This pose and hand position felt the best to convey all of that.

Here's also progress on the colouring now! (colours in the top left are the palette im using). I worked on it so much today my arm is aching :bubble_blol:

Amazing!!! The red and blue eye reminds me a lot of the red and blue pill. Is this intentional?

It's been a long time since I actually got round to doing anything with the Nurturer of Water, but I sat and painted her yesterday.  This is just a phone pic btw.
