Hi,

I am an oldish woman (in my mind....) who is incredibly new to tarot. I had a  Rider deck over 35 years ago (before I was even a teen.) I purchased it at Waldenbooks (I believe), piddled with it for a week and it's now lost to the sands of time. Fast forward to early June 2020 and here I am again wanting to learn Tarot. I feel like I need to get back in touch with the universe. Technology has distracted me for too many years now. I want to hone my intuition. I want to know more about who I am and what my place/part is in the universe. I really want to learn for me. Not to read for anyone else. Is  that legitimate? I realize I have a tendency to try and do everything on my own and that could be a hinderance to my learning tarot, so I started looking for online communities. I'm hoping to learn a lot here.

Hey Sace, 35 years plus some change isn't old! Well, that's what I tell myself, anyway. Oh, and, as Gregory says, of course you can have a fruitful relationship with the cards while working solo. As long as you're working with them, that's what counts.

Welcome to the forum!

Of course your chosen path is legitimate!  I started off primarily reading for myself, and still do most of the time.  The hardest part for me was learning to honest and true to what the cards were saying - even if it was something I didn't really want to hear!

Look forward to seeing you round the forum!

Thanks for the welcome @stephanelli. I suspect I will struggle with honesty and truth as well. I am definitely a "see what I want to see" kind of person.

As you get more you used to working with the cards you will learn to see clearer.  Tarot really helps train that.  And don't forget you can always ask in the forum's for help 😊

I'm sure I'll have plenty of questions @stephanelli!

Thank you @joy

Really quick... A "Why I think Tarot is awesome" story...

I started to work through Mary K. Greer's Tarot For Yourself after I posted my introduction today. I figured out my personality card based on my birthday...it is The Fool.

Hallo And welcome to the Forum Sace

i am also someone who used to and mostly is reading for themself although i plan on changing that in the future to learn more and get feedback

for me that worked quite well in the past although i have developed 2 Rules for myself

1 don’t ask about the future concerning something i wish for because too much wishful thinking envolved

2 don’t ask questions concerning my relationship if I’m in emotional turmoil because of that relationship because my highly emotional state tends to distort the reading

of course this is just my way to work and other people can see/do it completely differently and thats fine

I hope you have a great time here and get all the information you need

Hello @MoonBear !

I am loving the forums so far. I am learning so much. I am inspired every day.

Thank you for sharing your Rules for yourself. I will probably follow them as well. Honestly I am still learning how best to formulate a question. 🙄
