Yes. I would either do a yes/no reading or an open ended reading with 1-3 cards. I would be as specific as possible, so if I’m wondering about trustworthiness regarding love, friendship or business, I would make that part of the question. For example, if it is about romantic fidelity, I might ask “What can I expect from X in regards to romantic fidelity, in the foreseeable future of our relationship?”. (My phrasing might be awkward because I’m not a native English speaker, but hopefully you get the gist of what I’d want to include in the question). Yes/No questions require, in my personal opinion, a predetermined method which you preferably will have tested and evaluated for accuracy. I would not just lay down cards and then try to decide which cards mean yes vs no vs maybe. I have never had a reading incorrectly tell me what I expect or ‘want’ to hear. Typically I have no problems with reading for myself. If it’s a stressful topic then I might ask a friend to read for me. I also don’t have any issues with readings that involve multiple people. Our lives are typically full of people and our readings tend to reflect that. I have never come across a querent that just wanted to snoop on other people; if they ask for a reading that touches on other peoples lives, then it is always because of the way those people impact the querent’s own life.

Why thank you, Tanga! (it won't let me @ you for some reason) "WWDD?" certainly is a mantra for life, isn't it? I think my journey was completely the opposite - I read about Pixie's life and thought "what an interesting person!" And me being vaguely witchy my entire life, it was only a matter of time before I started slinging properly, for real this time 😄 But we can't all be the same, can we? Thanks for the warm welcome 🤗

That comes down to your own reading-preference. What holds is that you have to be capable of practicing your craft beyond the boundaries of accepted science and the walls erected in our brains by it. We are the explorers of the unknown - they do the ratification once it became explored enough and is thus "safe to handle", reputation-wise. You need to feel in your heart that you can do it. Sting-style: "Be yourself, no matter what they say."

Welcome @jayanti108! I absolutely LOVE your Avatar... What would she do indeed! 🤣. I resisted the RWS from the start - didn't like Pixies artwork. But I grew to appreciate it after attending some presentations on her life in the UK. Happy Card slinging! - and perhaps other 😉

Hi everyone, I am new to the forum and new to tarot! I first dabbled with tarot in my teens but didn't really do a lot with it. I've come back to it in midlife and I'm hooked! At the moment I'm a bit of a Smith-Waite purist, but as I grow I'm sure I will broaden my horizons. As the woo-iest of my friends and family, I'm keen to explore this journey online with folks like you. After all, you can't learn without listening to discourse, observing readings - oh, and the memes of course! Uhh... I can't think of anything else to say so... hi! It's good to be a part of the community :)

After watching several seasons of "Traitors" I am convinced that it is almost impossible for humans to predict trustworthiness, with or without Tarot. Or to look at it numerically, it is estimated that something like 40% of failed marriages are due to infidelity, and that's a pretty sad measure of our ability to invest trustworthiness in what should be the most important person in our lives. As JoyousGirl said, when making a judgment call about someone's trustworthiness (with or without Tarot), it is largely a matter of projecting our own biases. All of our relationships, interpretations, decisions are chained to some bias -- that's just the nature of being human. I'd also surmise that Tarot readers are more aware of their biases than almost any other subgroup of humans. Biases are sticky things which are difficult to overcome since they arrive subconsciously, regardless how much conscious effort we put into it. The good news is that we are more than just our biases, and experience (hard won, of course) is what makes us more intuitively accurate in judgments of trustworthiness. There is nothing like hard won experience to make us more aware and self-reflective, and thus better at intuitive judgments and decision making. And if you're thinking this rather messy self-development process has parallels with getting better as a Tarot reader, you'd be absolutely right.

Answered. And I believe it has worked out for pickles. I will give Roddy's email to anyone asking after something specific, -
In all honesty, it is quiet simple, so long as the querent is directly involved in the situation - "Is X safe to trust Y?". Three cards get it done nicely. I feel that "determining trust" is very often involved, if you think about it - one boon of oracling is to sniff out the treacherous paths to better stay away from them, after all.

Different meanings across systems - do you get confused ?
Marina replied to Celine's topic in Playing Cards
Yes it’s mine! Though the blog underwent some big changes recently, including the name, heh! But it remains focused on divination, especially my experiences with Ana Cortez's method, which I love. I actually like methods that involve more than just reading/memorising the meanings from a book, which is why I believe I would really enjoy Lenormand if I focused on it to learn it better. For instance, I am always amazed by the people who can read a grand tableau cohesively, and incorporate the oracle's many layers (images, insets, direction, combinations etc.) to enrich the reading. -

@Moon-Hermit Thank you very much for your informative description of one of the Iranian cartomancy methods. It's fascinating! -
Where to post a collective exercise?
JoyousGirl replied to Marina's topic in Technical Forum Assistance
Excellent. I had a look at the previous divination circles. So mine's a slight variation on @Rose Lalonde. Questions might be time-based. So feedback within the fortnight if sitter is getting weekly readings so they don't forget what happened, similar for monthly readings, and at the end of the quarter or season (considering astronomical, astrological or weather seasons, because reader may choose to apply or align themes). An extended period for inaugural initial sign up would be required as people who are keen on learning something may need to wait to purchase the ideal tool before they implement it in practice. @DanielJUK I love these and look forward to them. Thanks for reminding me where they're kept so I can review last year's. 💫 I'll draft something a bit later based on Rose's template. -
I'll be happy to see your progress. And I like what I've seen of your work, too. If you don't know your style and have creative blocks and blanks as happens, I'd love to see pics of styles you like as inspiration. Let the journey begin!

The subconscious changes how you interpret the cards, not the cards themselves, in my opinion. You are less likely to understand what the cards are saying and accept the message if you are, for instance, too invested in a certain outcome. I differ from some opinions given as in I don’t have any problem in reading about others. NOW, I must clarify I am very much against snooping (ie. prying into someone else's life just because you can), but if someone can affect me or have an influence on my life, I have no qualms about doing a reading and becoming aware of their intention towards me. This is why I phrased my suggestion above as I did. Of course, if this is considered third-party reading, I submit to the forum rules and sincerely apologise! I just didn't see it that way. As for projecting, I think we definitely do that, and we should always strive to withdraw our projections - tarot and oracles can be very helpful in that! But we must also be careful not become solipsistic… I mean, we do have do deal with others, and I think tarot and oracles can help us with that as well. I guess we need to strike a balance in this regard.

Yes. I feel you, it's a prickly matter, especially when approached directly. Now, as a reader we lend aid to the querent by providing information, best if it's the vital sort. For me, it is time and circumstance to rule the "Do'n'Don't" in this matter. It is true, asking in general is a bad idea especially on these ones - ask direct. You bet. It's both. Bias is the one to look out for when reading. More correct would probably be: "In reading, the subconcious takes missdirective influence through bias." After all, the subsconcious is with you for life, just like your nose (hopefully). However, the influence of the subconscious need not be negative. That's what focus is for - it means to have your consciousnesses acting as a whole, with the "sub-" in tow. At least for the time it takes to shuffle and answer.
-
Oh my goodness! I didn't expect such an enthusiastic response. Thanks, guys! I will post again sometime in the coming week.
-
Someone else reading for you will generally minimise bias. But be careful you ask the right question, so that you don't project any bias of yours into the reading. I am iffy about reading for people without their consent, and would try and phrase it so that it's directed at you - after all, if a person is trustworthy with one individual, they may not be so with another. Something along the lines of how will an association with this person affect me.... In MY view, when reading. I imagine others will differ.
