I haven't been too active lately but I'm ready to jump back in with the Steampunk Tarot (Matthews version).

Posted

Thank you, fire cat pickles! 🌻

I'm in this week with the Tarrochi Celtici paired with the Art of Asia Oracle.

Greetings everyone.  last week was thin, I'm hoping we have a livelier crowd this time around.  I had best contribute to that, so let's go back to the

Enchanted Forest Tarot. I'm really enjoying that one.

Oh, time flies! another week slipped by!

I have good news to report: 🙂

The deck, that I won by participating in the Subscriber Winter giveaway thread arrived!

It is the Jolanda Tarot!

It is a used deck in excellent condition and I am eager to spend at least this week with it as my DotW.

Hi!  Looks like we have a great group and decks this week!  I had the Jolanda long ago.  I love its vibe!  In the meantime:

It’s here!  The Kickstarter deck I backed, the Charming Cryptids Oracle has finally arrived!  So I’m going to have fun this week!

320511262_Saturday1.thumb.jpg.befaa4d3665a93fe82db5fb9f02e7286.jpg

It’s a 50-card oracle, with a 0 card, the rest roman-numeraled.  The artwork is clever, colorful, and fun.

The cryptids are mostly North American, with a number from other places, including the Loch Ness Monster, the Kraken, and the Tizzie-Whizie.  I was surprised to find two from my area, the Demon Cat from DC (get it?  DC?) and the Snallygaster from Frederick, Maryland.  I had heard about the snallygaster when I was a kid, but I didn’t know it was a local thing.  There are also several cat-like creatures, so I’m in for that!

I like that, although the booklet was an add-on, it fits neatly in the box with the cards.  The booklet has three upright and three reversed keywords for each card, along with a description that includes possible origins or sightings of the beasts.  It also has brief instructions and some spreads.

So let the interview begin!

Most important characteristic:  Drop Bear

An Australian predator resembling a large koala that drops onto its victims from above.  Keywords:  surprise, hidden truth, detachment

Well, the deck will be surprising and may stun us with its hidden truth!

Strength:  Fresno Nightcrawler

A possible ET that is mostly legs, first sighted in the 1990s.  Keywords:  balance, success, clarity

Even though this is a humorous deck, it can give real, clear readings?

Weakness:  Beast of Bray Road

A humanoid bear-wolf sighted in Wisconsin in the 1930s and 1980s.  Keywords:  reluctance, obstacles, defensiveness

While the deck can be clear, it can also be difficult to read with because it’s so unfamiliar.  To everyone.

What can I learn from the deck?  Gef

A mongoose with human hands and feet that inhabited a home on the Isle of Man.  It was very talkative.  Keywords:  disagreement, conflict, confidence

I can learn confidence from the deck!

How can I learn it?  King Otter

Giant carnivorous giant otter in Ireland that live in pairs that defend each other.  Keywords:  partnership, affection, connection with others

I can learn confidence by being open to partnering, with the deck or with other people.

Outcome of our work together:  Skunk Ape

A smelly bigfoot cousin who lives in Florida.  Keywords:  unhealthy behavior, disdain, pride

After reading with it for a week, I’ll think the deck is too silly to read with anymore?

Well, I guess we'll see about that!

(Okay, those cards are cool as all get out, @Rachelcat)

Lol, guilty as charged, @Wyrdkiss. I always feel bad when I don’t get around to contributing. School has been kicking my behind, and I had to make time to celebrate my birthday 😁🎂 I will DEFINITELY post this weekend, at least!

I’ll be working with the Trionfi della Luna, illustrated pips edition! And probably also with my Begin Oracle.

Thank you for the new thread as always, @fire cat pickles

This week I'll be using the Tarocchi Celtici, created by Laura Tuan and published by De Vecchi Italia. Paired with it will be the Art of Asia, an oracle I created for my personal use. Today's draws are the Four of Water (Cups) and "Winter Moon on Toyama Plain" by Takahashi Shotei:

four%20of%20cups.jpg   AVvXsEhtZJBXRo_r491w_LmtJpu3szpRHPxxJAUeLD8atdROHEFiSyHvwSUNmcfMBb9XaUJzAn6kbDKaDDxXTvQQysBQJCrDFGc65EJcY2_KRK5fCdBpKdRrbQPvuoUG1MGI89VOHwe751Cb-IdZiPeHfG6FfL0BKe_wpL4IQ568lIzrm639gcOCXmQ9OecR=w200-h320

The water nymph appears to be trying to help the Ash tree by giving it a tonic. The keywords for this card are health, healing and energy rebalancing. Our body will often send out subtle signals when our mind and emotions are off kilter, and we can experience it as moodiness and lethargy. The symbolism of the Ash (purpose, roots) and the meaning of the Ogham Nion (connection) enhance the quote associated with Shotei's painting:

The moon has her porches turned to face the light, but the deep part of her house is in the darkness.
~ Robert Bly

When we look for the cause of our mood, it may be as obvious as a bad dream hangover. But sometimes we must dare to walk into our dark house to find the root. Carefully and without judgment, we look for what may have triggered this mood. It may be baggage from out past, and a situation or interaction in the present that seemed similar poked it. Once discovered, we can bring it out and expose it to the light, checking to see if there is any truth to what we've found.

@Rachelcat that Cryptid Oracle is super cool! I love the colors.

@Wyrdkiss Your deck is gorgeous. I can't wait to some readings with it.

@Bodhiseed Those decks have artwork I can just stare at. I especially like the "Moon" card.

I've basically just been lurking about the forums lately. I don't know what it is about being at home that makes me so unproductive. 😛

Here's my weekly reading with Matthews Steampunk Tarot. I'm not sure if that's how people who know better call the deck but I have to distinguish from the Moore one somehow so I remember the authors of the books since both decks have the same title.

What to prioritize this week: Lady of Submersibles.

Keep my emotions under control by not letting myself drown in to-dos and have-tos. I need to learn more about tapping into my intuition with control. I can get "lost" so easy. My imagination is like the fish. All over the place, darting from here to there and back again until my day has slipped by.

How can I better organize my time? Two of Leviathans

My first thought was good balance standing in that moving vehicle over sand. Anyone like standing on the bus? I need to find my rhythm in order to maintain my balance when things are shifting. The man has his arms around the woman. She has something to lean on. He is protecting his priorities. I should learn more about maintaining my focus in the face of distractions.

A way to be productive without feeling overwhelmed: Empress

Give things time to grow and evolve. Nothing got the way it is overnight. It will not change overnight. Everything has its own gestation period. Let things happen in their own time.

How can I incorporate what I love? Six of Airships

Let go of the things you don't love. Just toss them overboard. I only have to carry what I want to.

Something new to incorporate self-care: Two of Airships.

Make peace the parts of myself I try to keep hidden. The person in the mask. Stop beating myself up in ways I would never do to another person.

Comments are welcome.

@AnomalyTempest, I don't think I've ever seen any of the Matthews Steampunk cards - thank you for sharing the photos. 💚 I actually have a print of Shotei's lovely "Winter Moon on Toyama Plain." 😊

Oh @Bodhiseedit is so nice to see you using the Tarocci Celtici!

Way back when I did a year long study of every card of this deck and posted on Aeclectic.

I was and still am very intrigued by all the authentic archaeological artefacts depicted on the cards...

Sadly the forum closed down before I finished all the Mayors 😞

I often check Aeclectic to get your thoughts on the cards. 😄 This deck is a challenge, but it has unlocked some meanings that I've overlooked before.

@Bodhiseed, thank you for the well wishes! I hope so too! 🥳

Winter Moon on Toyama Plain by Takahashi Shotei is so beautiful! I have never seen this print before and I am really glad to be introduced to it! I think a cool thing about it is that I have been to Toyama. It is such a beautiful place. My experience was more developed and residential than depicted 😁 but it is nifty to see artwork expressly of Toyama.

Another serendipity with your post—yesterday I had quite the “nightmare hangover” so I felt seen when I read that, lol.

You inspired my decision to draw a single card this week for advice on working my big school project this week:

6 of Coins from the Trionfi della Luna. Weirdly, I took this picture outside near a favorite little river of mine where I like to observe the fish!

What this card says to me is to balance and utilize all of the nuggets (coins) of information I am trying to process onto paper right now, but to be sure to make time and share the earth with my fellow creatures, like the fish. Basically, I am seeing hard work not only toward, but also in aid by, my connection with nature and those that need me. The institutions (pyramid) will always be there in the background. Simply share what I know and things will proceed the best that they can.

I appreciate your interpretation here.  I never considered the institutions (pyramids) in that manner.

This deck is lovely. But the images are almost excessively matte in appearance for me. As you can see, the back just pops so much more than the reading itself.

Wow, I actually really agree with you here, though I wish I didn’t! What if you read with this deck on a white background and put the (gorgeous) backs out of sight? Do you feel that would satisfy?
