Rachelcat Posted July 23, 2022 Posted July 23, 2022 (edited) Always good luck to you @fire cat pickles! I hope your Friday went ok! It’s a new week already?! I’m in this week with the Minchiate Tarot Deck by Spencer’s. I saw it here on TT&M and had to have it! Ok, I’m confused. The only other minchies I have are two Lo Scarabeo versions of the same deck: Ancient Minchiate Etruria, Etruria in Firenze nel 1725, and Minchiate Etruria, Firenze 1806-1807, Lo Scarabeo Anima Antiqua. They’re the same deck (reproduced in different sizes), but the packaging has two different dates. And then the date in the Spencer’s deck on the Four of Coins is 1803 (“Carte Fine di Roma, 1803”). It’s obvious that the Spencer’s deck follows the same illustration ideas as the Etruria, right down to Romulus and Remus and the wolf on the Three of Swords, only in a more rustic woodblock style. So is it a woodblock copy of the more refined Etruria? Or is the other way around? Or do they have a common ancestor? Any information on provenance or dating would be very welcome! In the meantime, other things to point out in this deck: I like the sun backs! There’s no lwb or instructions of any kind, just cards in the two part box. It’s a photo repro that shows that, in the original, the backs are wrapped around and glued to the edges of the fronts. BTW, what causes the dots in the printing process? Inquiring minds want to know! It has some interesting (added) titles: We have “The Empress,” “The Pope,” and “The Emperor” instead of more traditional minchie cards, Grand Duke, Western Emperor, and Eastern Emperor. We also have “The Madman” and “The House of the Devil.” Wands/staves are “Clubs.” Pages/servants are “Jack.” The elements and astro signs have “the,” as in “The Fire” and “The Taurus,” definitely the oddest of the titles. In common with others minchies, servants of cups and coins are women, and the knights are centaurs of various kinds. Well, let’s give it an interview and see what happens! Ok, I really did shuffle: washed, returned cards upright, and overhand shuffled 7 times! And still ended up with 4 astro signs and 2 other majors. So I guess it was meant to be! Most important characteristic: The Libra Just like Libra is halfway through the Astro year, this deck is half and half: It’s not quite tarot, it’s not even quite minchiate. It’s not quite historical because of the odd titles. It’s not from a tarot publisher. BUT it’s also a balance of all those things: tarot, minchie, historical, modern tarot, etc. It’s a little bit of everything, but all in balance. Strength: The Pisces It’s a little mysterious, not your regular everyday tarot. It has hidden depths, but they can be plumbed. Weakness: The Sagittarius It, or more likely its users!, can be a bit pedantic and academic. It’s head is in the sky while its target is underfoot! What can I learn from the deck? The Hermit This is Old Father Time with his hourglass (with arrow for time flying), not the hermit with his lantern. The deer is also a symbol of age because the older a deer is, the bigger its antlers are. It can help teach me about the wisdom of age. Or about time itself, how it seems to be so fast sometimes and so slow at other times. How can I learn it? The Sun Count time by days, sun to sun. That way I won’t get confused! Or come to the issue of age with an open mind and looking on the bright side. Outcome of our work together: The Aries We started with Libra and end with Aries, opposite signs. This is just the beginning of my minchiate study. My work this week will lead me to continue working with this deck and other minchies, maybe for a year ahead! Well, we’ll see about all that! Interesting reading though! I look forward to more this week. Edited July 23, 2022 by Rachelcat
Bodhiseed Posted July 24, 2022 Posted July 24, 2022 This week I'll be using the Swietlistej Drogi Tarot (Tarot of the Radiant Path),created by Alla Alicja Chrzanowska and published by Studio Astropsychologii. I'll also be drawing from the Mirrors of the Heart deck, created and self-published by Lily S. May. Today's draws are the Queen of Pentacles and Voice: This queen doesn't just nourish what she grows, she breathes love into what she gives (like that fruit basket she holds). All the queens are nurturers in ways that honor their talents and abilities; the Queen of Pentacles does so in physical, tangible ways. She might send a packet of chamomile tea to someone who is stressed or offer a gas gift card to someone with a new job and a long commute. Her care is delivered in practical, useful ways. Yet the Voice card suggests something else may be needed. Of often people doubt their worth and have little love or compassion for themselves. This queen could also send a note with her gifts to let the recipients know they are treasured, and that she believes they have something worthwhile to offer the world. With realization of one's own potential and self-confidence in one's ability, one can build a better world. ― Dalai Lama
Wyrdkiss Posted July 24, 2022 Posted July 24, 2022 This is fitting, as a mental paradigm shift is needed with a rekindled recent relationship. The glum card actually was a helpful reminder.

fire cat pickles Posted July 24, 2022 Author Posted July 24, 2022 I'm a little behind! I actually started with this deck on Thursday! I'm caught up now:

AnomalyTempest Posted July 25, 2022 Posted July 25, 2022 Well I'm back with my weekly spread. 😄 What to prioritize this week: Two of Leviathans I need to find my balance and rest in it. I've been working to streamline my days and make more things into a habit but I keep managing to let myself get distracted and then the day is gone and nothing is really done. Even doing this reading I got up in the middle and came back unable to remember for the life of me why I even got up in the first place. Routines are super important to me if I let myself get distracted everything goes out the window and I feel I have to start over. I just need to create one that I can relax into and feel supported no matter what the distractions may be. How can I better organize my time? Explorers And hello distraction! There he is. He's not my only distraction but there are definitely times I feel like I'm in that Geico commercial about living with Animal from the muppets. The scene in the kitchen where she is trying to use the computer feels like me. My SO and I laugh at that all the time. He thrives on noise and chaos and I ...do not. A way to be productive without feeling overwhelmed: Eight of Airships Don't get stuck up in the clouds. I fly off in fancy fantasies or even mundane streams of thought and just stay there. I feel like hours of my day is lost to this which is why I'm always trying to make important things as automatic as they can be. I put a bottle of water by my bed so I can drink it when I first wake up. If I'm cooking I always have a utensil in my hand in case I wander off. If I start to put it down to do something else, I'm reminded I'm cooking. And that's a thing to. I wander. Just randomly walking around the house in a giant circle. I need to keep my sights set on something. How can I incorporate what I love? Lady of Leviathans There's a bomb behind her and she's so focused she just keeps painting her plant. Upon closer inspection it could be a big drill bit. She's dug down deep. She's shining her own light. She's focused on the one thing. I might need to go back to a pomodoro system. Those tend to work well for me as I regulate my time better. In fact, she looks like an archeologist. I already mentioned digging but maybe it's more going back to the beginning. Back to things that worked in the past. Something new to increase self care: Spirit Gauge I need to pay more attention to my daily rhythms and fluctuations in my energy levels. I need to schedule my tasks in accordance. Things like incorporating my daily draws and tarot time into my morning coffee routine which goes back to Explorers/Lovers card and getting distracted by SO's morning routine which is news, and playing with the dog, and etc. To be fair, I wander into his space. I should get better about staying in my own. I think I'm hitting something here about feeling like I have to speak to people if I see them. I suck at general social "norms" so I'm always worried I'll be perceived as rude. Hrm. Looks like this week's spread is really giving me insights to something I'll need to look more deeply into. I really like this deck and I think I'm going to dig out the book. I remember there being so many spreads. One for every Major plus several in the back of the book. I wonder why I don't use it more.
Rachelcat Posted July 25, 2022 Posted July 25, 2022 Here are my Sunday and Monday readings. Three readings so far and all majors except for one court! No pips at all! That must mean something . . . ? Maybe I'll figure it out sometime this week.
Wyrdkiss Posted July 27, 2022 Posted July 27, 2022 Does anyone know why this photograph, from the creator of the Somnia Tarot, did not make it into the deck? I feel it is especially effective. Still wading through the rest of this water based dreamscape, more to come.

Wyrdkiss Posted July 27, 2022 Posted July 27, 2022 Page from the Somnia. I appreciate the inquisitive, watchful, curious nature.

Oh I really resonate with this card 🙂 But the Page of Swords is kind of my avatar. I got a meaningful reading once and the reader designated me as the P of Swords, without knowing that I am an INTP (which usually corresponds with the P of Swords in the Meyers-Briggs matchup with the courts). A particularly watchful and stoic, but dreamy, version of the Page! Thank you for sharing. Do you resonate with a particular court card, Wyrdkiss?

Indeed I do. while I am self reflective, I can be blissfully unaware. Sometimes my enthusiasm does not match my experience. Occasionally my bark is worse than bite. And, thankfully, I love to observe the world even when I make little sense of it at times. What is your favorite page from all your decks? Bonus points for a picture. Edited July 28, 2022 by Wyrdkiss
