The 22 major arcana depict art nouveau scenes of people, animals, places and objects reminiscent of when the artist was a child. The court cards have an almost stained glass effect, depicting Assyrians, knights, royalty and Egyptians. I have read with tarock decks, but I think you really need a playing card mindset to do them justice. If that makes sense. Yes, it makes sense. I am interested in cartomancy too, so I may buy it to try it and see if it works for me.

I leave you to your own devices here - your guess is as good as mine. My suspicion is this is because in some tarot game rules, Cups and Coins (or Hearts and Diamonds) rank 1 highest and 10 lowest, while Batons and Swords (Clubs and Spades) rank 10 highest and 1 lowest. Tarock strips the lowest ranking pips out of each suit, bringing the deck to 54 cards, and leaving the cards you've pointed out to remain.

I think it is interesting how we can get these really game-specific decks that make little sense outside of that context. I found the numbering system odd too, so this helps explain. By the way @gregory, I ordered the deck and it came in yesterday. I just love the art style. I actually immediately connected to some of the meanings of the deck, so I think I can read with it. But, it is definitely it's own system and since the majors are so...odd...I think it does kind of limit *what* I can read on with it. I hope that makes sense.
gregory Posted February 22, 2020 Posted February 22, 2020 Oh yes - it is very odd. But it isn't that way because of LoS !
AeonHorus Posted February 25, 2020 Posted February 25, 2020 (edited) I have this deck. Yesterday I did my first reading with it. I really like it! Edited February 25, 2020 by AeonHorus
gregory Posted March 2, 2020 Posted March 2, 2020 (edited) I am certain sure you do NOT spell Soprafino with two fs. I am now less certain than I was. But I have NEVER seen the deck thus titled. I have asked Lo Scarabeo. Il Meneghello's has only one, for a start. And Menegazzi was Italian too. https://tarot-heritage.com/2011/10/26/the-soprafino-deck-of-carlo-dellarocca/ Edited March 3, 2020 by gregory

AeonHorus Posted March 3, 2020 Posted March 3, 2020 Oh haahaha I see it now... This isn't the thread that I started 🤣

It is also called sometimes “soprafino” (1f). The Italian word is with 2 ff. It is called 1 f because it was sometimes to say “Tarocchi fini // Tarocco fino” at that time to say “high quality” And this one was ultra quality so it was written “sopra fino” (two dinstinct words), but it was not the title. It was later Vito Arienti that used those two words to make a title of it (same as Marteau named the Tarocchi Marsigliesi). But we prefer to use the correct word with 2 ff, as we don’t want to use the two separate words. I have been mightily educated today, and thank them very much. Edited March 5, 2020 by gregory

gregory Posted March 5, 2020 Posted March 5, 2020 I am a great believer in admitting when I am wrong. (And I actually learned a useful Italian word, so double win !) I guess you weren't around for the Great Mystic Faeries climb down ! (That wasn't even a factual thing, either.) I never get why I am congratulated for saying I was wrong. To me it's quite important that when I state a wrong fact, others should not continue to believe me and be misled. NOW when people say Oh look LoS got it wrong, we can ALL say no they didn't. But I am big....
Morsoth Posted March 10, 2020 Posted March 10, 2020 Thanks for the confirmation for 'Sopraffino' vs 'Soprafino'!
Morsoth Posted May 22, 2020 Posted May 22, 2020 Quick update: The Tarocchino Montieri is now available for pre-order on Amazon.ca (it's not listed on Amazon.com yet) with a Sep 8, 2020 release date: https://www.amazon.ca/Tarocchino-Montieri-Anima-Antiqua-Luigi/dp/0738767301/ No entry for the Tarocco Sopraffino, but I'll keep looking! 🙂

kudos91 Posted June 4, 2020 Posted June 4, 2020 can anyone who owe a deck from this line please let me know if they varnish the cards? I love my Il meneghello Soprafino a lot but hate the fake stain that they use to make the deck look antique, the nice thing is they don't apply any kind of varnish on the card though
gregory Posted June 4, 2020 Posted June 4, 2020 I'd call it a light lamination (the term varnish is not one I would use.) NOT like the Meneghello finish at all. The LoS ones don't as a result look totally antique in finish, only in the artwork. But shiny they are not. Anyone else agree ?
kudos91 Posted June 4, 2020 Posted June 4, 2020 Thanks @gregory! As i thought they use a matte lamination like most of higher end decks these days. Il Meneghello normally doesn't use lamination on the card ( I doubt they even use playing card stock since the card are very thick and not flexible at all), but they smell soooo good (the best smell of all so far).
gregory Posted June 4, 2020 Posted June 4, 2020 No, I know. I have many Meneghello decks, and these are not like them. But they are rather lovely, just the same. And much easier to use.
Morsoth Posted June 4, 2020 Posted June 4, 2020 Like gregory just said, I'll say that the Anima Antiqua line has a very subtle matte finish. I must admit that I prefer Lo Scarabeo's Anima Antiqua card quality over the Il Meneghello ones. However, be aware that the new edition ("Museum Quality") of the Sola Busca is highly laminated: ___________ Matte Finish____________ vs ____________ Laminated
Morsoth Posted July 4, 2020 Posted July 4, 2020 Update: Looks like the Tarocco Sopraffino will gets released on (or around) July 8, 2020! It's not listed on Amazon.com yet, but it is on Amazon.ca. 😛
gregory Posted July 4, 2020 Posted July 4, 2020 I have it on the way Ordered direct from LoS ! And the Montieri. arriving on the 9th !
Morsoth Posted July 5, 2020 Posted July 5, 2020 Oh nice! I never bought directly from LoS. On Amazon, the Tarocchino Montieri is only released on September 8, 2020.
