A thread for those who would like to work through their collection of decks, participants choose decks from their collections to work with for the week. Some use one deck, others use two or more. Some combine methods: Tarot, non-tarot (e.g. oracle), playing cards, or any other divinatory method is welcome. All we ask is that you use at least one tarot or oracle deck.

No collection is too large or too small. The only rules we have are the Tarot, Tea & Me Rules; Be respectful of one other. Please join us!

  • Please post with your choice of deck(s) for the week
  • Chat away about your deck, how you're finding it (or not), etc., it's all up to you
  • Participants may either choose to share their readings here in this discussion thread or opt to have their own journal in the Journals Forum and link it here
  • Yet others may even have an offline journal in paper & pencil/pen form

Share as often, as much, or as little as you like. You can drop in and out at anytime—reality and life permitting. New to tarot? Long time reader? Come on in

Thank you Fire cat! ❤️

This week I'll be using the Mary-El Tarot, created by Marie White and published by Schiffer. I'll be pairing it with the OH Cards, created by Ely Raman and Joe Schlichter and published by Eos Enterprises. The OH draw is actually two cards - one a picture and the other a word. Today's draws are the Ace of Cups and Military Parade/Give:

We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give.
~Winston Churchill

This hermaphroditic angel is based on the constellation Aquarius, the water bearer. Rather than seeing the cool water they carry - water that can heal, sustain and nurture - we might get caught up judging the outer package. At that point, any relationship would be superficial, based simply on what we like or dislike. The OH card shows a formation of soldiers drilling, an ancient practice that began when men stopped fighting as individuals and started to fight together as units. The word card combined with it is 'Give,' suggesting selfless rather than selfish action. As Emma Goldman wrote, "If love does not know how to give and take without restrictions, it is not love, but a transaction that never fails to lay stress on a plus and a minus."

Welcome back to the group @Akhilleus! It's been a while 🙂

Just a refresher message (for those who may be joining up also) the DoW Group is a fun and enlightening way to share how your decks can work for others, to highlight new or unique reading techniques and spreads, and perhaps to introduce new decks for other members.

Glad to have you back!

I am/ was busy yesterday and today to finish my Hierophant artwork for the creativity thread and chose the Raven Hierophant from this deck - so I may as well read with it this week.

Here is the link to what I posted:

I'd like to try joining a Deck of the Week thread for the first time, if I'm not too late to sign up.  (Not entirely sure how the sign-up works.)  But if it's okay, I'd love to explore my newest, and most unusual deck, which I haven't really read with yet.  It's Poppy Palin's The Everyday Enchantment Tarot.

This tarot is very interesting, as all of the images are of everyday people and occurrences that connect to (mostly) the standard RWS meanings for cards.  I find it a little bit difficult to shuffle, as the cards have a matte, non slippery texture, but I love the images ...even the ones that make me think outside the box a bit.

Thank you!  Just feeling my way at the moment, but it's fun.  Looking forward to what other people post about their decks.

I'm exploring my Deck of the Week, The Everyday Enchantment Tarot by Poppy Palin, by reading with it, but also by comparing each card to the same card in the RWS deck.  I love the way the austere and symbolic figures in the RWS deck get translated into a pragmatic, here-and-now depiction of the card's meaning.  Here is The Magician, in both iterations:

magician.png.ebc941b2097a6e05d82b5ad98f2cfd97.png

The Magician in Poppy's deck is using what he already has at his disposal (tools, seeds, the earth, and weather) to create something magnificent.  If he is skilled he will create nourishing food from those basic elements—like magic. If the card is reversed, he may lack the skills to make the garden flourish OR he may actually do harm with pesticides, herbicides, evicting creatures from their homes, eroding soil, etc.

Yes, me too.  It's the first new deck I've been excited about for a long time.  I was so sorry to learn after I bought it, that she had died.  The deck is so full of life!   Hard to believe she's gone.

I just wish that the deck would get republished on more suitable card stock.  Those cards are really difficult to handle.  I mean REALLY difficult.  It's hard to deal them out without them sticking together, and shuffling is a nightmare.  I will persist, though.

Thanks.  No I haven't, but on your recommendation, I just ordered some from Amazon!  It would be a godsend if it works.  Thanks again.

Hope I'm not hogging this thread, but here's another of Poppy Palin's cards I really like: queencups.png.57dfdb6502031caecb77d39d712a41dc.png

This Queen of Cups isn't just sitting there on a throne, contemplating being empathetic. This one is openly listening and responding to another human being, sharing her time and interest with somebody who looks as if they might be homeless, while the ordinary world goes on behind her.  What a warm and humanistic Queen she is!  She doesn't look as if she's doing this other person a favour; she really seems interested in him and his life and relaxed in his company. That's the secret of true empathy, isn't it?

@Chariot I love your compare and contrast posts! ♥ So much so, that I checked out this deck and am seriously getting interested in it.

The depicted scenes are very much pulled out of everyday life and I have a feeling, this would make a great deck for me and my clients to read face to face with ♥

No such thing as 'hogging' lol.

This is one of my significators. Palin takes the original card and keeps the symbolism in place almost piece by piece but adds to it. The child/cherubim in the arm support is replaced by the dog; the ones in the top rail by scenes of the general public, "the "ordinary world" as you put it. The sea and seashells are represented by water bottle and dog bowl. The enveloping seashore is now the enveloping folds of the queen's visitor. The coffee cup is a chalice. Everything is there, just in updated symbols. @Mi-Shell is right that depictions from everyday life would go over well and easily relatable. I'm sure the rest of the deck is just as carefully thought out.
