right away, the song "8 of Swords" by the legendary metal band Huntress comes to my mind. So I will give that to....the 8 of Swords!!!

sadly, the lead singer, Jill Janus passed away. A huge loss for the metal community!!! She was a great performer and vocalist, but was also hounded by inner turmoil.

From what I've seen over and over, the record companies need to provide artists with a good therapist as soon as the money starts rolling in. As things stand now, though, they won't.
So we keep losing people.

Here's a 7 of Swords song. Theft, betrayal, the works.

yeah...many workplaces offer that kind of thing to their employees, it makes you wonder why record companies dont....BUT, having been in the music buisness my whole life, I think a lot of artists bring inner demons to the table before they get signed, so is that actually on the record company to rectify/solve? Sort of the nature of the business - sadly - in a way. Definitely a topic for a different thread, so as not to derail this one...

and gotta love Thin Lizzy!!!

From a purely cold, capitalistic perspective, I would think they'd want to take care of their cash cows.

OK, back on topic: The Moon.

"Faries Wear Boots" - Black Sabbath

another Moon card song, related to Sabbath

is that a Minor Threat reference in your avatar? if so, I'd love to see a song connected to the straight edge hardcore punk legends from DC.

it sure is!! Have been sXe all of my life because of them....

lets see...a card - or 3 -  for the group...

Strength - they always were challenging people to break from the norm, and to stick to your morals; overcome peer, and societal pressure; do the right thing for the group; don't be SHEEP!!!!

Page of Swords - wisdom, grace, vigilance, subtleness in material things...sort of reminds me of the DIY ethic they were espousing

Knight of Swords - for the punk rock attitude: LETS GO!!!!!

That really is problematic. Most of y'all are "lower level" these days. I've seen bands like the Meat Puppets cheap or free too many times.

The Devil. If there's any such thing as supreme evil, those soviet experiments were an expression of it.
Roky was a really, really nice guy. Childlike. I think a lot of his stuff like this was his way of sicking it up.

yeah...I never got any higher than lower level in my "selling music" life, but my love of writing, creating, and the pursuit still burns even after 30 years!! In my "teaching music" life, I would say I am "upper medium" level

90% of the bands I love are low to medium level in the music industry as well...but I find better music there

The internet is having some really weird consequences. No more big royalty checks for everybody, no more wrecking cars like Joe Perry. Now it's all about ramen noodles, I guess.

Things are getting a bit heavy and dark here (my bad!) so here's a RWS 4 of Cups. (Language is NSFW)

Yes. They're still making an effort.

And who can afford tickets to the really big names anyway?

yep...the last big show I saw was Iron Maiden in 2019 before COVID shut everything down...

I mostly go to local bar/club shows, punk house shows, or symphony concerts...

so...for my most favorite Iron Maiden song:

Judgement - Hallowed Be Thy Name - the main character questions why God (religion) has let him down just before going to his death. He ends up figuring out that his soul will live on reardless of faith in the supposed God. He has been judged...by himself, and has realized that his soul will live on beyond life on earth.

Good one!

I'm reminded of an ancient Alice Cooper Group track with a near-identical title. It's MUCH less profound, mind you! 🤣

Not sure which card fits it, but this bit makes me think Wheel of Fortune:

"You're fighting to go up
'Cause you're on your way down"

oh man...that is an AC song I have never heard!! and I can see where the band Ghost has been trying to channel some of their vibe from...

Never heard it? It's off of what's arguably their best album! Or at least up there with Killer, Billion Dollar Babies and School's Out. Have a playlist.
I'm not sure how to fit a Tarot card to all this, though. 🤣
