Katie Posted July 27, 2019 Posted July 27, 2019 @bookshop That deck Triomfi della luna is really funny. Maybe this is off topic but I recently got one deck of "poker" playing cards by the same artist. They are very much alike I think.
bookshop Posted July 27, 2019 Posted July 27, 2019 @Katie omg yes! the style is so distinctive and the color palettes are really wonderful. This must be the deck that the bonus queen of hearts card I photographed came from!
Katie Posted July 27, 2019 Posted July 27, 2019 (edited) @bookshop Yes it is the Queen of hearts you've got from them. 😃 There are two edition of those playing cards. My deck and your card are both from the first edition. The second edition's pip cards have white borders (me NOT like). Katie Edited July 27, 2019 by Katie
bookshop Posted July 28, 2019 Posted July 28, 2019 Just unwrapped a late-night delivery of the Anthony Apesos tarot, which I backed out of curiosity on Kickstarter a few months ago. His art is abstract but super intriguing: https://www.apesos.com The Kickstarter campaign didn't really give much detail about the tarot itself and I was super curious about what it would be like? Come to learn, none of the cards are numbered and the whole deck is intentionally very abstract. The suits have been renamed to Animals (analogous to wands???), Light (analogous to Cups?), History (...Swords???), and Wood & Stone (Pentacles). The Major Arcana don't seem to be analogous to the RWS system, and have names like "Elsewhere, False Light, Swimmers, Undone." I think I'll just have to read this like an oracle deck, because even though Apesos apparently intended it to be readable as a traditional tarot deck, I don't really know how that works with the level of abstraction without numbers (or a LWB) that this deck uses!
Flaxen Posted July 28, 2019 Posted July 28, 2019 @bookshop, the Trionfi Della Luna is a great deck. Those characters really talk in a reading. Thanks to @Katie, I know have the Royal Mischief Playing Cards on the way. I’m also waiting for the Liber Ludorum playing cards.
ilweran Posted July 29, 2019 Posted July 29, 2019 My White Sage Tarot arrived today. It's rather lovely and I'm tempted to pop it in my bag and take it with me when we go away for a few days. I may not be able to trim it as planned, though I think I said that about the Zillich and now I'm thinking I'll definitely trim that one and keep this one as it is 🤣 Won't be doing either of them until the school holidays have ended anyway!
bookshop Posted July 30, 2019 Posted July 30, 2019 ooh @ilweran I don't think i've ever seen a picture of the Zillich tarot trimmed, what do you do, trim the sides? oh, or do you just curve the square edges? That makes sense, haha. So I just got a HUGE surprise in the mail! It's The Tarot ng Daigdig sa Balintataw (“World inside the pupil of the eye”) by an artist named Lynyrd-Jim Narciso. It’s an extremely limited edition deck from 2005 — only 100 copies of it were made, and my copy is apparently #79. I had ordered it from Adam McLean's Alchemy Website, and I hadn’t even been sure he’d gotten the order, or if he even still had a copy of this rare deck, until it arrived to my apartment this morning! It's so stunning!! It's a major arcana-only deck but as you can see it's totally worth it. I recently emailed the artist, Narcisco, and he says that he's hoping to reprint most of his out-of-print early decks in celebration of the 15th anniversary of his studio next year, and I cannot WAIT, his works are so so beautiful. (He's probably best known for the Maria de Celia Marseilles deck, but he's got a lot of out of print decks and some of them, like the Bagong Sining and the Tarot of the Curious East, are on my "holy grail" list of tarot decks. I feel very lucky to have run across this one!
ilweran Posted July 30, 2019 Posted July 30, 2019 @bookshop I'm going to trim the bottom off, take out a couple of cards I'm not so keen on and use it as an oracle. Your new deck is lovely. I have a some of his, Tarot Whispers at the House of Dusk, the Lepidopteran People and a few others. I love his art!
Raggydoll Posted July 30, 2019 Author Posted July 30, 2019 @bookshop gorgeous deck!!! Congratulations on your purchase ❤️ Today I finally received some decks that seemed to be lost in the mail for a while. I will be sharing them all in the coming days but I want to start with this one : Birds oracle deck. This is an independently published deck that only features birds (which you probably guessed by its name 😁), and it has artwork that I feel is a bit reminiscent of the Animal spirit deck. It has a proper guidebook with large black and white images of each card. It also has a whole page of information and meanings per card. The box is a slim tuck box of high quality. The cardstock is thick, not very bendy and extremely matte - exactly how I like it! I can’t wait to start working with this deck! There is a broad range of birds depicted (in total 44 different kinds). I purposely chose to feature lots of owls because they are some of my favorite birds 😊
bookshop Posted July 30, 2019 Posted July 30, 2019 Oh, those are lovely @Raggydoll! The illustrations are gorgeous but the card backs are especially lovely, for card backs.

Raggydoll Posted July 31, 2019 Author Posted July 31, 2019 Here is another deck that I’ve been wanting for a long time but didn’t want to purchase until I found it within the EU. It was worth the wait! The Fauna tarot! Amazing artwork and fantastic quality on both the cards and the box. No guidebook or LWB came with it, though I was able to download a free pdf guidebook from the creators website. This deck contains two extra cards - “The Wild” and “Mindfulness”. The suits have been renamed and feature one animal species per suit. There seem to be like a storyline that develops through the suits too, with different seasons etc. Those that have a phobia of spiders - beware! I will be featuring depictions of spiders below!
Venus Rising Posted July 31, 2019 Posted July 31, 2019 oh I've got that Bird Oracle on my wishlist, @Raggydoll it looks so beautiful. I hope you enjoy it! The cardstock sounds divine. That Fauna deck is adorable! OMG the otters and the shells!!! too cute! I'm in love

Flaxen Posted August 16, 2019 Posted August 16, 2019 The Stolen Child Tarot has arrived. It’s a very nicely produced package. The box is sturdy with a magnetic closure and has the beautiful artwork in keeping with the deck. It will take a little time to familiarise myself with the deck as the images are not immediately comparable to RWS. However, titles are included and there is also a digital guidebook. I can see it becoming a good deck for lovers of fairy/nature themed decks who don’t mind imagery which is different to RWS.
bookshop Posted August 23, 2019 Posted August 23, 2019 I just got the Louttre B deck! It is one of my "holy grail" decks and i'm really delighted, but i was not expecting the cards to be so large! They're shown next to the standard RWS for comparison. I'm sorry I didn't take more pics of the deck itself but my camera was dying! There are plenty of images of this deck out there, though.
bookshop Posted August 23, 2019 Posted August 23, 2019 Also @Flaxen I was not interested in the stolen child deck when it was on kickstarter but those cards are making it hard to resist now!!
Raggydoll Posted September 3, 2019 Author Posted September 3, 2019 Oh look! It finally arrived...☺️ The box is sturdy with a magnetic flap. And the guidebook is fairly substantial. The deck is divided in two stacks because it’s too high to fit the box in one pile, even when the guidebook is taken out. From the first glance this guidebook feels youthful and contemporary The deck is edged in a very bold color that matches the back. I don’t think I would have ever dared to go with that color myself but I still quite like the finished result. This cardstock is really nice.. sturdy and matte So let’s look at some cards.. They definitely live up to the name of the deck. There is a clear “lightworker” theme, and it feels fresh and modern - a bit like Starchild tarot but less ethereal. And this if of course not collage art. This deck is inclusive and you can tell that the creator has done her very best to represent as many different types of people and aspects of ‘lightworkers’ as possible. I appreciate that work. It is very well done. The only thing that comes to mind is that I would have loved to see even more different body types. But that would just be the icing of the cake. This deck is made with love and care, and it is a perfect addition to my collection. The artwork isn’t what I normally go for so that made it a fun complement. And it definitely represents this day and time well.
Mi-Shell Posted September 3, 2019 Posted September 3, 2019 @Raggydoll! That is a beautiful deck! I found the Kickstarter page but can not make much sense of it. Is it still available? How to order it now? I am an internet klutz and need some guidance for dummies!

But next year there will be a mass produced version that comes with a smaller guidebook and more standard cardstock. I’m sure that one will be great too!
Mi-Shell Posted September 3, 2019 Posted September 3, 2019 Ok thanks, then I will have to wait!........ Practicing patience.......
