The colours look different - maybe there is a way to scan it in and digitally enhance the colours. Will have to investigate the options as this is just the first draft. I really like it! But I know what you mean about now being happy with the picture but liking the piece in-person. I started my Eight of Wands last night and was actually quite happy... I took a picture and eek! It looks very dark and blah haha

I guess taking a picture will be difficult as there is all those issues with light. Can you scan it? I do not have a scanner myself but there are shops that scan.
Little Fang Posted January 23, 2020 Posted January 23, 2020 Thank you! ❤️ I'm going all digital, I do my art on my surface go and I can travel with it 🙂

Jewel Posted January 23, 2020 Posted January 23, 2020 I have decided that since I am going to do the Novice or Water in colored pencils that I should invest in a pencil blender to help smooth out the image, they seem inexpensive enough. Anyone here use that? I am thinking of getting the Prismacolor Blender.

It cost me pretty much what you'd have to pay Kinko's or somewhere to scan decently for you. AFAIK - about $20. Just saying. Edited January 23, 2020 by gregory

You could try using the white colored pencil as a blender as a test to see if you like the results - it'll lighten the color obviously but should have a somewhat similar effect. The blender is really just a colorless version of the pencils, as best I can tell? I just signed up for ace of fire! I have an idea and am thinking watercolor for it.

I love watercolor art!! I had no idea what a color blender was, interesting! I have only use solvent type blending in the past with the more creamy color pens.
gregory Posted January 23, 2020 Posted January 23, 2020 @Flaxen - happy to have a shot at recolouring if you like. PM me.

Thank you and @Raggydollfor your feedback. I think I will give the blender a shot. I cannot wait to see what you come up with for the Ace of Fire 😀 I just did the background of my Novice with pastels and am quite pleased by how it came out. Too bad I do not have my regular colored pencils here, I am chomping at the bit to start actually coloring her. My idea is for her to get cropped closely so I just kept a plain sky-like background and have the cup sitting on grass to connect her with the element of earth instead of trying to be an overachiever and end up ruining my drawing that I am finally pleased with 😆 Edited January 23, 2020 by Jewel

geoxena Posted January 23, 2020 Posted January 23, 2020 (edited) FWIW, I have the Prismacolor colorless blender but haven't used it much because I didn't like how it worked. It may be because I tend to have a heavy hand and my layers of color are often thick, but I thought it seemed to lift color or push it around more than blend it, and the results were more mottled than blended. And I had to apply more color afterwards. I've found that blending in a circular motion with the lighter color of whatever area I'm blending works better. Colored pencils are very forgiving if you use light to medium pressure in order not to flatten the tooth of the paper that holds the color. You can just add more layers and rework again and again. I keep reminding myself to ease up on the pressure I use and just go lightly. It blends easier that way. @Jewel, in a way, I wish I went with a plain sky and grass background - it would be so much easier than the stone wall I decided to put behind my Hermit! Lol. Stones aren't hard to draw, but every time I look at it I want to add more shading... just a little here, oh and there, oh needs more shadow, oh that stone should have a bit of pink, this one needs yellow and on and on and on.... Thank you so much for your advice. I hope to start coloring a little tomorrow. I did the sky with pastels which I blended with a cotton ball. Need to get me some pink and lilac pastels to finish it. The rest will be done in colored pencils.
LoveLightPeace Posted January 23, 2020 Posted January 23, 2020 Does ordering charcoals and graphite pencils count as work in progress? 😛 I have to say that I am really enjoying getting to see everyone's progress on their chosen cards! Each of you brings such a unique perspective to your chosen cards and it's a beautiful thing, to say the least. I cannot wait to have a copy of the finished deck in hand, I am so excited! So, I'm going to try my hand at drawing the Tower card. If it doesn't work out I'll do photo collage. 😉 *fingers crossed that the drawing works out*

stephanelli Posted January 24, 2020 Posted January 24, 2020 I have my concept drawing for the Nurturer of Water complete. Next week I will trace her onto watercolour paper and will begin to paint. (I won't have time at the weekend!) It seems appropriate to use watercolours for her to keep that nice underwater effect. When the paint is dry I will then ink in the details.
