gregory Posted April 13, 2020 Posted April 13, 2020 It's YOUR card. It has to express YOUR vision. This is one of the reasons I am not posting mine ahead of printing ! The thoughts/visions are MINE - even if someone else doesn't get them.

Nemia Posted April 15, 2020 Posted April 15, 2020 I have the okay from the Alte Nationalgalerie and can use the card! I can continue the work now. I'm very glad. I'll have to add to the card explanation a copyright note. Isn't that great?

geoxena Posted April 16, 2020 Posted April 16, 2020 (edited) Okay, so I've been delayed in submitting my last cards because the place that scans them for me has limited hours. But it looks like I'll be able to get it done either tomorrow or Friday, thank goodness. In the meantime, I thought I'd upload a li'l sneak preview of the Explorer of Water. My previous cards were done with colored pencil but I used markers for this and did it in a sort of 1950s/1960s comic book style. My Explorer makes me giggle every time I look at it. He's kind of like a muscle beach superhero - he and his friends are having fun in the sun... the woman in the preview is sitting on his shoulder! Of course, she's in love with him! (and, yeah, there's someone else on his other shoulder!) This is just a tiny piece of the whole picture. What do you guys think? Not too irreverent, I hope! [the drawing isn't quite as bright pink as it came out with my new phone's camera] Edited April 16, 2020 by geoxena
Starlight Posted April 16, 2020 Posted April 16, 2020 Looks fabulous! What sort of markers were you using? Copic?

No, water-based, so I can use a waterbrush if I want. Mostly Tombow brand, and a few others. The black outlines are Pitt art pens (India ink) and the white highlights are a paint pen, I forget the brand. And thank you! Edited April 16, 2020 by geoxena
Starlight Posted April 16, 2020 Posted April 16, 2020 I love how you can create shadows and highlight with markers. Artists markers are way more versatile than children's markers. I'll have to get some and play with them, just for fun!
geoxena Posted April 16, 2020 Posted April 16, 2020 Oh fooey, I see I posted in the wrong thread. I meant to post my pic in the Work in Progress thread. @Raggydoll, would you mind moving these there?

I specifically bought them and taught myself for this project and I had a few messes at first!

Can’t wait see the whole thing and find out who’s sitting on his other shoulder! I also love that the muscular hero has some feminine facial traits to him. Very fitting for this card, I feel!

Nemia Posted April 16, 2020 Posted April 16, 2020 (edited) Please bear with me while I try to find the best formula for this card. I regret now pasting down the basic elements but the deed is done. The question is now, what to add to the lower part? I will add three coins (these are toy coins but maybe I'll take some real ones), and I did a little doodle of three ants working together that I might add somewhere. In the middle, at the center, or leave it away? There are other options for the empty space at the lower part of the card, but I'll leave you with these options 🙂 Option 1: three coins and that's it Option 2: three coins and the ant doodle in the middle Option 3: ants in the middle, coins lower Option 4: ants to the right, coins higher What do you think? I can't think any more! If the doodle is not clear enough, I can colour the stick they're dragging, then it should be clear. Oh what do I know???? Edited April 16, 2020 by Nemia

You've already got a bee at the top - you don't need any more insects! Please. haha. But seriously, there's enough detail in the base of the cathedral that this one doesn't need much more, I think.
