Deck of the Week Sign-up Thread, Week 467: Jun. 15 - Jun. 21

Hi, everybody! Glad to be back again! This week will be Dirt Gems Plant Oracle Deck, the second of my ill-gotten gains from our tarot society giveaway. It’s an herb deck with suits: Ablaze (fire, red), Afloat (water, blue), Adrift (air, black and white), and Amidst (earth, rainbow). 65 cards. I’m going to have to use the book all the time because there are no keywords on the cards. Also, because the new moon happens to be on a Monday, I’m going to use the daily moon phase card keywords of Spirit de la Lune as themes for my daily readings for four weeks. I did this in 2023, and it’s time again because I’m still having trouble coming up with topics and spreads for daily readings. But first, an interview with Dirt Gems. What is your most important characteristic? Magnolia, Time Traveler It has SOME flowers. The deck is all about change and trying to not resist it. What is your strength? Echinacea, The Bridge of Sovereignty The in-between of change. The deck is a bridge that can help me to stop resisting change. Your weakness? Peppermint, The Irresistible The deck is not very calming or helpful for learning about actually using herbs. (Peppermint and ginger are the only herbs I use. Peppermint tea to get rid of digestive discomfort.) What can I learn from you? Damiana, Tingle Maker This is the deck’s romance and sexuality card, I think. I’m willing to learn about pleasure and dreaminess. But not more than that. How can I learn it? Rosemary, The Holder of Belonging Unconditional love, home, and protection. I can learn about pleasure by being reassured that it’s safe and comfortable. What will be the outcome of our work together? Arnica, The Sustainer of Form Healing after trauma, physical or emotional. The deck will help me heal even more from very old trauma. I like the art and the black backgrounds. I wish at least the titles were on the cards, if not keywords. I’m too old to learn a whole new system and too stubborn to look everything up in a book every time! We’ll see how we get along this week. -

Thank you Fire cat! 💓 I'm in this week with the Wheel of Change Tarot paired with the Oracle of Dreamtime. Strength is not the absence of hurt. It is the refusal to let hurt set the terms of who we become. —Rabbi Yonatan Hambourger The Three of Swords indicates a painful realization and the loss of an illusion. There are some relationships that just can't be put back together as they were before when truth is revealed. But what do we do with our pain? Psychologists Richard Tedeschi and Lawrence Calhoun have studied what they call post-traumatic growth - a conscious shift from being a victim to being a student of our experiences. This process does not delete our pain but helps us use it to extract life lessons and gain emotional resilience rather than remaining stuck. The Dreamtime story of Barramundi tells the story between two young lovers who long to be together, however the young woman was already promised to an older man in an arranged marriage. Rather than accept that fate, the lovers jumped into the sea and became fish. Traditional ideas and romantic dreams must often be sacrificed if we want an authentic, fulfilling life. -

Two Books for March (but now it's June)
Grizabella commented on Grizabella's blog entry in If You Ask Me----
Thank everyone so much for welcoming me back. I'm happy to be back. I'm using a very old Chromebook and I've typed in so many long posts only to do something wrong ( no clue what) and the whole big post disappears. I can't figure out where "undo" is to bring the whole thing back and I just give up sometimes. -

You know, just a few days ago, I ran across my copy of this book and I was very happy because I've moved around so much in recent years and have lost so many things along the way that I forgot I even had it. - Last week

What's your favorite way to get to know your decks?
MouthOfTheLion replied to StarkRavenMad's topic in Tarot Talk & Technique
For me, getting to know a new deck is about becoming familiar with the artwork and the structure. I like Tarot Kaizen by Alison Cross as a jumping off point for ideas about how I can examine the deck, but mainly I'm looking at portions of the deck in isolation (laying out all the Majors to take them in as a unit, then each suit of the Minors and the court cards) and comparison (for an RWS clone, I lay out the septenaries to compare the cards in each column or I might look at all of the twos in the deck, that sort of thing). If it's a heavily themed deck, like the Mystical Cats Tarot, I give each card a keyword that captures the nuances and deviations. To see how the deck words in readings, I prefer to start with "fake" readings, say for a fictional character or my cat. 😉 -

Hello, I go by Mara and I'm from the US. I've had a long and difficult love affair with tarot, beginning around 1996. I love to study and discuss the cards but I've only done readings for myself. I'm hoping that, if I prove to be a valuable member of the community here, y'all can help me expand into reading the cards for other people. 🙂 I look forward to chatting with you!

I deliberated over backing this deck for some time... I have Emma Zhang's first creation, the Dream Vision Tarot, which I love, and like you I'm always on the lookout for a deck inspired by Ancient Egypt. However, I realised that I didn't love the minors enough to make the investment so ultimately decided to let it go. They just didn't seem to have the same depth as the Dream Vision Tarot does. I'm going to back this deck as well, I think it's gorgeous. I also love that the creator made a greyhound themed deck; I wouldn't use it myself but greyhounds (and sighthounds in general) do have a special place in my heart and I always appreciate it when people raise awareness of them!

More Kickstarter decks for your thoughts
Rose Lalonde replied to FindYourSovereignty's topic in Tarot Decks
Just backed the Sacred Spring Tarot. 'Sacred Spring' is a translation of the name of the publication printed by the Vienna Secession movement artists that inspired this deck. They included Klimt and Moser, who were in turn influenced by Art Nouveau. I have a weak spot not only for this art style but for minors that lie somewhere in the middle between pips and fully illustrated. The artist fulfilled several past Kickstarters, including The Cards Drawn Tarot, which was poker sized. Sacred Spring Tarot is tarot sized. (The artist is in the US, but for customs purposes, I'm not sure whether the decks will be shipped from there or directly from a printer's.) -
I have 2 diverse decks to add. The Wild Eden and Lubanko Tarot.
-
The devil card? Very cool deck!! I received my Supernova Tarot and the Golden Art Nouveau today! A few days ago I also received my La Muci Fantome Tarot. I am done buying decks until next month, when a deck I'm waiting for will be released.

Of course you can still join! I haven't been online for the last few days unfortunately... Welcome to the group @Marina 🙂 The DOTW Group is a fun and enlightening way to share how your decks can work for others, to highlight new or unique reading techniques and spreads, and perhaps to introduce new decks for other members.
