Loooking goood! 😀 I ordered the same drawstring bag as you with the book.

You should have yours soon then 🙂 hopefully you won't have to wait for long. My bag has been made with vintage dark red textured silk, it will be interesting to see if all these bags are the same.

@KaiNO @Danvers did you guys order the mini edition from BABA or did you both happen to find the sold-out standard size with the bag somewhere? Just curious!

I'm reporting from my anxious waiting on tarot decks to say that i have received NONE of the tarot decks that were due to arrive over the last 3 days, haha, but I have, instead, gotten a tarot deck that wasn't supposed to ship until October 1.  I'm super relieved because I was afraid I would be out of town when it arrived, but I'm really worried about missing some of the other deliveries! One of the hazards of living in New York — the postal service here is sometimes a total gamble. It makes me super anxious.

I preordered the book in May, and as far as I can remember, those who preordered the book were offered a 20% discount on the bags (Strength, The World, The Tarot Reader).

I hope your ordered decks arrive soon, bookshop! 🙂

Like @KaiNO I pre ordered the book and bag together around the same time so got the discount on the bag too. I bought the standard size deck when it was a preorder so got a discount on the deck as well. It's great if you can afford these things at the time but I've missed lots of decks due to lack of funds.

I really hope your packages arrive soon!

Ohhhh what a great idea! Very tempted!!! 🤣

Omg guys my decks came all the way from Bulgaria at last! My landlord just happened to be in my building when they arrived and signed for them for me, what a stroke of luck!

I am completely over the moon. These decks are so beautiful.

I am so thrilled, I will be poring over these decks for the longest time to come. Yay!! Also sorry some of the photos aren't aligned right, I'm uploading them from my phone. I'll try and fix later.

Congratulations! Now THOSE are some nice decks!
I have the La Corte and can testify to its awesomeness.
What's the shrinkwrapped deck in the last photo?

Posted

Oof, it's an up-close version of the card back of the last deck (the Dario Fo), I uploaded it in the wrong spot and then tried to delete it so it wouldn't be confusing, but I couldn't get the edit to work, sorry!

But thank you! I think they're all so beautiful! The La Corte is so nice and I'm so excited to have a Meneghello deck!

I know what you mean. Circumstances conspired to have me living on a shoestring when a lot of theirs were released or available on preorder. I missed a lot of first editions, even though they were much less pricey back in the day. I missed the BG Silver.
But good things come to she who waits. I got a deal on the full sized deck a few years ago because it had no box. I guess some boxes got damaged, but the cards were OK so Karen listed them at a lower price. So it lives in the bag. No harm, no foul. The bag is adequate to protect the cards. I use this deck A LOT, and it still looks new:

bg.thumb.jpg.9846cf74417e7284e38dbd14a72332e7.jpg

And I got the mini and the app. So I am rich in Bohemian Gothics, lol. The only way I'd consider getting another is if:

A) I got a big bargain on an old edition, Some of the cards are different, particularly the Queen of Wands:

688630967_bogothqueenofwands.jpg.24a4f4a80831c4223bf308a43b8c31e4.jpg

I just love seeing a drag queen QW. Tarot needs more of this!
I'll never find that edition for less than the price of a month's rent, though. *sighs*

Alternately, I'd get another if:

B) There was a cold stamped edition. Imagine how gorgeous THAT would be.
IIRC, Karen has stated that they don't want to do that, as the Silver is a truly limited edition of strictly 500 copies, and a cold stamped version would be kind of similar. But I have to disagree because colored cold stamping is not the same as silver ink overlay.

And wouldn't it be awesome in a wooden box? Maybe stained pthalo blue for this one. And yes - I WANT A SCARF, lol.
I hope they change their minds.

But anyway, my point in all this rambling is this: patience. @bookshop, you have *flawless* taste in decks, it shouldn't be difficult to resist the flavor-of-the-month stuff and hold out for the great ones!
And since you like Il Meneghello, I think you might like some of these, too: https://rinascimentoitalianartenglish.wordpress.com/catalog/

What a wonderful post! And yes yes yes to a coloured cold stamped edition! Can you imagine how it would look in candlelight? Do you think that they will definitely never produce another limited edition? I agree with you when you say that it would be totally different to the silver version. I have the VR with metallic cold stamping and it's so mesmerising how the colours gleam when using the cards, it really takes them to another level. I'm imagining a cold stamped BG deck in a beautiful blue box and wondering just how this wouldn't or couldn't happen, I may start to save a little money each month just in case it ever does.

I'm so so tempted to buy the BG mini deck, but I've pre ordered the coloured Mythical Creatures this month so yet again, money is the problem. Sadly I can't get the app as I'm on android 😖

And I love the QW card from the 1st edition. I've seen it before online and wish they hadn't changed it, it just fits the imagery of the deck so well.

For me, the BG deck is perfect because I appreciate the darker side of life so i don't feel like the cards are that gloomy, I actually find them quite humorous. I've only used them to read for myself and love their honesty but I can see why some people might find them difficult/too dark.

A scarf would be wonderful! But what image? So many would could work on a scarf.

That link you posted? You are so bad 😁 such beautiful decks!

ETA

I forgot to say that if they made a LE gold version of VR and then a cold stamped version, why not a LE silver version of BG and a cold stamped one?

I've pre-ordered the Goddess Dream Oracle. Despite the name many of the cards seem to fit in well with the Greenwood, Greenwheel Oracle and so on that I'm currently working with. Looing forward to this.

And arriving soon is the Wee Star Oracle. I've been eyeing it up for a few months and decided to take the plunge as I've a bit of spare cash atm.

Congrats @bookshop - those decks are beautiful!

@ilweran oh, doesn't that Goddess Dream Oracle look fantastic?  I've been a long time fan of Wendy's work - and she is a lovely person too.  I'm really happy for her.  Looking forward to getting this deck 🙂

@Venus Rising It does, doesn't it? Not sure the name adequately covers imagery from the cards I've seen. It's awful to have to wait so long for it 😁

@Danvers, that's odd...I've had the app for a few years - on Android. But I just checked the listing at amazon and it only says "iOS". Maybe they've changed something...or maybe there's a mistake. Probably the best thing to do would be to contact amazon and ask.

@katrinka I may do that, I searched Google play store too and it's not there either. Fingers crossed I can find it........or steal my husband's iPhone 😁

@katrinka i found the app in the amazon appstore and just installed it. Wow it's fabulous isn't it? I've not had much time to explore it yet but it looks as if I'm going to get a lot of use out of it. Thanks for telling me about the app, I would never have found it on my own

haha, I do try! I think I've gone a little overboard lately but I'm reeling it all back after this influx of amazing decks. It helps that I now have to wait til bloody april for the Blood Moon tarot because lol in between now and then, it will probably be easy to say no to a lot of gorgeous illustrated decks.

(Also, I would just like to say that I'm really starting to get tired of what seems to be the endless crop of Kickstarters for decks with boring, minimalist, black/white/gold designs that are clearly ripping off the Golden Thread, the Marigold, the True Black, or all three. Guys! At least pick a different color scheme! Tempt me with black and white and TEAL or something!)

Oh, goodness, thank you for this link! I hadn't seen this site before and there are a lot of decks here that I've been wanting for ages! I just bought the LS edition of the sola busca but I had been torn on that and this edition for a while. Same with the Besancon, I am always torn on which edition to get. Lots to sort through here, thank you!!!

I have a question re the Bohemian Gothic discussion: what is cold stamping? I tried googling this but didn't get any enlightening results — is that just when you design the decks with a kind of foil inlay?

Quote

yeah, even i can tell as a non-collage fan that this deck is bursting with personality!

Also I second the scarf love. I think I like their bags more than their decks, and a scarf line would be stunning.

wow @ilweran I hadn't seen that deck before you linked it here and I think it's lovely — really beautiful and creative for a black-and-white deck, lots of nice greys and shading!

Thank you, @Danvers! I love love love the Musterberg, it's the deck i was most excited about. I am so into the lighter watercolor-ish color scheme! So far i think my favorite card might be the Death card! This OG using a bone to row across the Styx with ahaha:

image.thumb.png.a49126ee1313307eb531e9feedf3f6d0.png

But all the decks are so fascinating to me! I also got the III Millennium this week so I'm just up to my neck in weird arty decks at the moment haha.

Congrats @bookshop - those decks are beautiful!

thank you!!!!!

And thanks to you guys for telling me about the BG app, haha, now i can have a tiny slice of the deck for myself!

Posted

@katrinka it looks very lush and mysterious indeed. I'm particularly enjoying the shuffle too. I think this is the classiest app I've ever used.

Posted

@bookshop I love the shawls and wraps that they sell but can't see myself wearing them so a scarf would be better for me personally. I did, in a moment of madness, buy one of their head bands. Only to discover when it arrived that it made me look like a cleaning lady 🤣 it is lovely though.

I don't think I've ever seen a happier death card! He's really enjoying his time on a boat isn't he - looking off into the distance, smiling and imagining who he's going to bump off next. Dear old happy Mr Death! 😄

I hope you enjoy the BG app, it's deliciously dark and lush.

I just realised that I should have posted this on the unboxing thread - sorry. Please feel free to move it.

I had a delivery of the Golden Visconti yesterday. No doubt everyone has seen it before but I didn't own any of the historical decks so thought I'd try this version as it was extremely inexpensive considering you get the deck, hardback book and cloth in a very nice box. Overall, a great deck for the price.

I'm really pleased with the deck but it is huge, so shuffling is going to be fun. I think I'll be using this as a practice deck, just to ease myself back into reading again.

I don't really think we've been finicky about putting our unboxings here or in the unboxing thread so i wouldn't worry about it too much! (But of course if it's an issue then mods please feel free to move my blatant unboxing post up there to the unboxing thread as well, lol!)

@bookshop I didn't find the unboxing thread until after I had posted, there's just so much here to discover.

I finally got around to ordering the Urban Tarot this weekend, I have loved it since it first appeared but as usual didn't have the cash when it appeared on kickstarter. So now I'm back to waiting for 2 decks to arrive plus my preorder of Mythical Creatures in November.

We’re not that picky about these particular threads, as long as it’s in either one (AND we get to see lots of pics ☺️) then we’re good 😁
